At a fantastic 3km per hour on average, you walk twice as fast as that. Do not know if you would call it sailing more like the boat being pushed along by the wind without sails or meandering on the tide.

Hey Igor, me and a friend of mine sailed from Monfalcone to Vodice in Croatia this August, with a hobie 16. We sailed 450 km in 2,5 weeks. It was a great adventure. And i was inspired from your previous sailing videos. Thanks for that.

Cool👍 I also sailed last 2weeks of august from Marina Julia. Where do you keep your boat? I will probably change to Hobie 16 as it looks higher from the sea. FX is the best boat I sailed but maybe low for camping.

@@IgorStropnik We were in the same area at the same time. Maybe we've missed each other just for a few hundred meters. We traveled from west austria, with a the boot on a trailer to monfalcone. With two person and all the camping gear we were quite low in the water but still high enough. So for one person with the gear i think it's perfect. The banana hulls of the hobie 16 made it quit comfortable in waves. We slept a few times on the boot but it has a bit of a bend in the trampoline. So it's not completely leveled. But i don't have a comparison to another boot. It was our first trip with the boot and our first real sailing experience on the sea. But the boot did a great job. We also had the problem that we get overpowered very fast. So i made exactly the same experience. The hook, on the top of the mast is not really handy when you have to reef the sail. Also a second reef in the mainsail would by a great thing. We also didn't had a furling jib, which i missed a lot.

A truly amazing video and concept. You have really captured the joy of real sailing (catamaran or monohull according to taste and temperament). I really had a flashback to my childhood and youth in the 70s and early 80s in the southern Norwegian archipelago with a Laser (the original) where we sailed and had pleasant day trips all summer. The filming is also incredibly well done considering how difficult it is to film when you sail such a boat alone. I really like the concept of keeping it simple and the way you rigged the tent is brilliant. The scenery in your part of the world is also truly amazing. Keep up the good work :)

I wouldn't advise this. The tramp is mesh to reduce loads on it and the boat and itself when waves hit it. Stopping the waves going through the tramp will transfer the loads to the eyelets and the boat attachments and could cause failure.

@@mikesurcouf7478 waves don't hit the mesh, it is just splashes from underneath. The foam floor is ultra light and spreads the load better on the trampoline.

I used to watch Hobie Cats on Howard Prairie Lake in Oregon, they were fun to watch. Your route is quite nice. I have a former colleague I know in Dubrovnik, an amazing city, another seafarer's city like Venice. I read several sailing books and have been sailing, on Lake Tahoe. I have enjoyed reading Robin Lee Graham's "The Dove", Robert Manry's "Tinkerbelle", Patrick Elam's and Colin Mudie's "Two Against the Western Ocean" and 'Kon Tiki", all true stories I read as a teen in the 70's. Videos like yours are so enjoyable--showing men sailing with the seas, sharing their love of the waves and sailing with the wind.. "The Dove" was made into a movie by Gregory Peck, the famous actor, which I have on mp4, a rare find. Kon Tiki is also a movie. Thanks for sharing your video, it is so nice to watch, and well made and narrated.

You're awesome!!! Watching you I began imagining myself doing something similar on my Boston Whaler Supercat 17, but with no engine I'm too scared! Also I'm glad you mentioned getting over powered due to the tall mast and big sail area of most beach cats. Being over powered is much worse than no wind. But when conditions are right, there's no other boat I'd want to be getting absolutely soaking wet on:) Thank you for taking video of your awesome journey!! Edit: I just remembered Sam Holmes sailing channel cut big holes in the top of each hull to add storage space, but he cut them right where Hobie 16s hulls tend to fold when they get old and soft. He loaded the boat up with way too much weight and tried to sail from Florida to the Bahamas. It was so low in the water out looked like he was sinking as soon as he shoved off. I think he had to get rescued because he started sinking. You did much better.

Why would you want an engine on such a small boat? I crossed 4 times the Atlantic with my family of 5 on an engineless gaff rigged 35' steel centerboarder. Much more relaxed than with an engine and the associated noise and the false sense of security. We moved it on narrow channels and rivers and in harbors. A 16' sweep helped move it with no wind. Kedging with a 16# bruce to move it when too much wind in tight places, a good rowing dinghy on davits at the ready and good kids as a crew.

Very nice video. Costal cruise with dinghy is something that a lot more people should do. Little bit of a heart attack seeing the pasta, but of course never waste water or any other things really...

Amazing. I only recently began looking at sailing, but the days of my youth are long gone. My winter mountaineering days backpacking days are also gone. So i love what you’re doing. Considering take sailing lessons, but sitting a couple of hours leaves me with stiff joints and the need to get up and walk around necessitates a boat that displaces a lot of water.

Well done. Perfect to have a light and fast multihull in these conditions. I sail an A-cat. About the daggerboards and rudders up or down it is my experience ( depending on the profile under the waterline of the hulls and the speed) that you can do with one daggerboard more often than people realize. Steering with one rudder is quite unstable however and requires more steering movements thereby diminishing any advantage

Igor, I have been inspired to do full-time live aboard sailing with channels Gone With The Wynns and Sailing Zatara, but you my friend are the one that shows everyone the mechanics of how to sail. All of your videos are so informative and inspirational. I have no sailing experience and want a large catamaran, but I think now that I will get a Hobie Cat to first develop the fundamental skills to fully understand sailing. Your video series with large catamarans is so well done. Many thanks for sharing your joy & experience of sailing!⛵️
