I live in Santo Domingo for almost 6years now but been to other parts of the country. Mostly everything he is saying is true!!! Only thing I ever had trouble with is the tap water. I learned the hard way on that one!! Other than that. The country is beautiful and the people here are very friendly!!! By the way I am American. 😊😊😊😊
Hahaha I was on your channel a year ago saying that I had no interest in the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴now I've been here for almost 2 months and love it hahaha

This is very sensible and important information. My wife is from Philippines we have been back and forth since the mid 90's and what you shared is exactly spot on. Situational awareness at all times be polite and respectful treat others as you wish to be treated. If I was 30 years younger and single I'd be on the next flight down to DR and meet you Sly!
I don't know where I live in heaven in paradise, Dominican and every time this land of my soul surprises me, Quisqueya La Bella, the most beautiful country in the world. Dominican Rep.
The bizarre thing about DR is they love to wear Jean's ,long sleeve shirts and jackets as hot as it is there. Up north in the US when it hits 70 degrees the majority of people are wearing shorts and t-shirts.

they aspire to have the all American lifestyle so they love to copy American fashion instead of wearing what's comfortable in their climate, and not to mention many people wear mostly American hand me downs from the families in the states

Dominicans dress up more than lazy Americans. Some are tacky but at least they are trying. Young women work the heels. Young gringas work the flip flops.🤣 Long gone are the 70s and 80s.when women in the US tried to look feminine and sexy. Most young Caribbean Latinas and Brazilian women work the sexy look. Gringas come to the airport in pajamas and slippers, full of tattoos and green, blue, purple hair.🤣🤣

@@bluemarble5225 that si nota true, the people wear jean is more confortable and quick for the job and the jacket is for the people are working in Office with air conditioning.
You can brush your teeth with the water just don't drink it. But even if you drink it once it's very unlikely that anything bad will happen since the water does get treated. It _might_ be heavy on some minerals but it won't get you sick. Better to be safe than sorry (which is what locals do) so don't drink it if you don't have to.
Good advice. These are mostly tips people should use wherever they are. Especially the ones about traveling with money 💰, and credit cards. 👍🏾👍🏾
One of the safest things to do, if you like to drink, only drink beer, because even if the other liquors are good the ice might be made from contaminated or bad water that might not agree with your system.

Wow I work in hotels, so I see many people who come from countries with cold temperatures and the only thinks they do is drinking alcohol and eating a lot, so them go to the recepcionist( to me) and tell me they feel bad because the food or water. 😅😅😅😅 I love santo domingo but not for living, the cost of life is more expensive.
I’m more afraid crossing the street than I am of Corona, been here almost a month. Hopefully when they come back they will relax the curfew some

This video is spot on. As for money exchange: ATM's are your best bet. I will add that I have a Charles Schwab checking account with debit card which not only means I don't pay a fee but they also reimburse me the fee that the local DR bank charges at the end of the month. I don't use ATM's just anywhere, I always go in the morning (like you said) inside a reputable bank and withdraw. I always put most of that cash back in the room and only carry around 2000-3000 ($35-$55 USD with current exchange rate). Speaking of exchange rates, the exchange rate for the USD / DOM peso has fluctuated greatly over the last 5 years going from 43 pesos on the dollar to as much as 58 pesos this winter. i expect the DOM peso to get better and it already has (56). So I brought some pesos back with me to the USA to save for my next trip down there. Yes, only carry one credit card with you when you are out an about. My credit cards also do not have international purchase fees. Make sure you let your bank and credit card companies know that you are traveling abroad. If you use a credit card at a restaurant for instance, always tip a few pesos in cash. The waiter or waitress may never see the tip if you add it to the credit card bill. I would also add that you never carry your passport with you, only a paper copy or even a photo on your phone. Do not pull your phone out on the street without checking your surroundings first. Taking photos and answering calls or texting on the street is risky. Lastly, if someone you don't know yells out "mi friend, mi friend" politely ignore them or act like you didn't hear them. And learn the words "no gracias". lol
Walk to your right; everybody walk on their right for comfort. Do not drive yourself; pay a driver with experience. Do not drink if driving; I saw a blogger saying it does not matter in DR and driving and he drove at night, crazy. There are accidents, and it does matter when someone gets killed.
Good video man

Don't drink the water dude. Don't even look at it funny or it will attack you. Overall, the Dominican police and soldier are very cool. It is hot AF over there. Bury yourself in leaves and wait for nightfall.
I am going to a resort I am confused should I bring dollars or convert it to pesos? I've heard it's better to tip in dollars but how about other stuff

Been living here in Santo Domingo, DR for almost 7 years now.Great looking country, nice looking girls, friendly people and great looking beaches and resorts. I have been all over the DR and seen some amazing things. Anyway if you're going to tip.Tip in dollars but if you are going to buy things convert your money into pesos.

Do not bring anything that you really want to keep. Such as: jewelry, electronics, fancy sunglasses , nice wallet, expensive watch or shoes. When those things get stolen, you still have your good items back home.
