    This Is Western Pleasure! For those that don't know many breeds like Saddlebreds, Friesians, and Arabians heads are still kept up this is mainly due to their conformation. You can definitely train them to have low heads but it will not look the best and their ability to gait will greatly be impacted as a high head opens up their shoulders. In Western Pleasure they have to perform the gaits Jog and Lope these are slowed down versions of the Trot and Canter. When a Saddlebred performs the Jog they want it to be less expressive but this horse wasn't having that lol and did the fully gaited trot. Of course not all Saddlebreds are 5 gaited nor do they all have that extra motion to their step, it just comes with breeding and the right training to perfect and hold it.

    There isn't any such thing as a gaited trot. "Gaited" refers to the slow gait and rack. What's being called baited is just an animated trot, jog, or canter.

    @@medelle7003 the reason horses are gaited is because a mutation on their DMRT3 gene which effects their locomotion (that includes animation). Saddlebreds have this mutation, it definitely effects some more than others but it is prevalent in the breed regardless if they're 3 or 5 gaited. Trotty breeds vs Running breeds have alot of differences from not just the presence of the DMRT3 gene but even skeletally with sharper angles. It's in this reason I'd consider Trotting breeds as gaited or a sub group of being gaited. As even if they might not always have the gaited gaits that DMRT3 gene is still present and effecting their gaits. "in the DMRT3 gene affects both the ability to show ambling and lateral gaits in a wide range of horse breeds, as well as racing performance and trotting technique in Standardbred and Nordic trotters."

    Another thing that influences if they gait or step high, is talent. People don’t realize that saddlebreds can be talented and that’s why they step high just like how some western pleasure breeds will just naturally be slower and have less suspension because that’s the way they just move

    100% not every horse has the potential to be a high level horse even if they have the best breeding or trainers for it. It's one of those issues we tend to see alot of in Jumping, someone buys a Warmblood type horse and expects them to be able to one day be Olympic level but it turns out the most that horse is able to go is intermediate.

  • @radchannel5494

    @radchannel5494

    8 ай бұрын

    If you mean the slow gait/rack, you’ll sit deeper into the saddle, add leg pressure, raise your hands a little and pick at the outside snaffle rein. It depends on how they are trained but that’s the cue for many.

    Saddlebreds are a Trotting breed they naturally have more action to their gaits, no different than any other Trotting breed like Friesians, Hackneys, Dutch Harness, Andalusians, etc. Not all Saddlebreds will have as much action as breeding plays a huge role in this along with energy level, drive, terrain, how they're ridden/rider influence, and yes training (you wouldn't expect a FEI level dressage horse to move the same as a 1st level would you?) Not to mention there's a different between 5 gaited and 3 gaited Saddlebreds. 3 gaited only possess the gaits Walk, Trot and Canter; while 5 gaited possess/can be taught the gaits Walk, Trot, Slow gait, Canter and Rack. These extra gaits aren't abuse they're caused by the gaited gene DMRT3 which allows more flexibility in their gaits and footfall patterns. If teaching a Saddlebred to Rack is abuse than so is teaching a pacer Standardbred to Trot and Canter 🤷🏻‍♀️

    The thing about saddle seat (not this, I know this wasn't that), is that on top of having high heads, the riders still want the horse to move the head back and nose down, so the horses become cramped. And not to mention the disgusting position where they are sitting. In a western saddle, the saddle is put on normally, not far back and you can see these horses move a lot more freely. Though it's also a fact that two things enhance the movements: long, downward hooves (VERY bad for their legs and spine), and shoes that even in saddle seat horses are higher. (I'm not talking about stacks, but shoes. I've also seen those on jumpers though as well as a few dressage riders back a couple years ago.) So yeah. These horses definitely have a different movement, but they can be ridden in a healthy way, like here (though I still despise those bits), but at least the horses are being ridden well. And the underside of their neck also doesn't seem so overdeveloped like in saddle seat riding.

    You really don’t know shit do you? The saddle doesn’t sit any different than a western saddle. It just has a cut out to allow the shoulders unrestricted movement. Long hooves are not the breed standard and pleasure classes don’t allow heavy shoes. The head set should not “cramp” the horses neck. The horses you see that are super tucked are naturally that way.

    Saddlebreds, Dutch Harness, Hackney ponies, Friesians, etc are all Trotting breeds. They move like this naturally, some move better than others because genetics 💫 but this is natural. There also isn't anything wrong with training a horse to have more expression or action in their gaits. It's what Dressage is prized for.
