I still remember the Indian TV broadcast "Mughal-e-Azam" in 1976, the costliest film. Millions of people stormed Lahore to watch it. All the hotels had been booked many weeks in advance. At the end of the show, the viewers came passing negative remarks. They expressed their disapproval, dejection, rejection More than a decade ago, the film was again on display in Lahore but barely after a week's time the viewers turned their back on it. Our film "Anarkali" surpassed it, proving its superiority in every respect ... songs, music, dialogues, direction, even picturization. It was the hallmark and an exceptional talent of a fledgling state that had been crushed by the British rulers before independence in 1947.
