    I had this surgery by Dr Beck himself. He stated to me That the surgery would not make my pain any worse. I did not have to use crutches before the surgery, a week after the surgery I had to use crutches as the side the fusion was done, the hip was in horrible pain. I had to be on crutches for a year after the surgery and I’m now looking into having the screws removed. It has been a horrible painful ordeal

However these 2 comments are the only ones I have seen in extensive reading that said they come out worse. Its horrible pain so I pray you both find not only relieve but also what is actually causing it to start with if not the si.

    I had a severe car accident 21 years ago and I remember that I had a wound on my lower abdomen that looked like a black caterpillar. They kept looking at my lower back and finding nothing. Now I know that this all makes sense. I think that my Levator Ani muscle group has been trying to make up the difference in regards to the instability in the sacroiliac joints. Does that sound logical? Because I think the same muscles used in child birth are the Levator Ani muscles.

    I will be having this surgery next month with the triangle shaped one. It's been 12 years of dragging my leg around and opiods to tolerate the constant pain. It's only been 4 years since they decided that was the problem. I have had at least 40 injections in my. Lumbar and si joint and 8 nerve ablations as well. Im on 60 milligrams of hydrocodone daily. I was diagnosed 4 years ago with rhumatoid arthritis and sjogrens. They believe the si joint was the first joint hit. Im scared but can't take the pain anymore. If it even eliminates half the pain and allows me to walk again I will be happy. Its actually pretty disheartening how many people are afflicted yet how few doctors know this. I have had doctors, many, tell me its all in my head to which I respond, no mostly my bottom!

    Hubby is a marine & when he was training in jump school, his parachute didn’t open in time and he was pummeled to earth after a jump. He was instantly disabled at the age of 21. Since then, the only solution was ibuprofen and injections. It didn’t help. He finally gave in to the titanium rods in his SI joint. It did stabilize his hip but the pain continues......

    I've had debilitating SI joint pain for 18 yr. With soooooo many pills they ate a hole in my stomach and made me a zombie and 100s of injections with only temporary relief for about a week. I am now told I need the surgery which I've known all along. The never ending pain has robbed me of my 30s and 40s. His explanation of putting the screws in posteriorly rather than laterally does seem less invasive/traumatic to muscles, nerves and vessels.

    Excellent Interview. My 23 yo son had a internal hemipelvictomy in June 2012 for a chondrosarcoma. In 2014 with worsening pain he had 3 SI joint injections with varying results. He is now on opioid pain meds and disabled and we are looking at definitive surgery for what we perceive is SI Joint dysfunction. His surgery took about 50-60% of the posterior SI joint due to the wide excision for the cancer. We were evaluated by a physician well acquainted with the IFuse system who stated that there was probably not enough joint to get 3 triangular prosthesis in, and he has never used 2 in the past. We have been seen by an orthopedic trauma surgeon who recommended the rialto method which are screws, and he was sure he can get 2 in by a lateral approach. I would like Dr Beck to see the CT scans and determine if his approach would be beneficial for my son or can you share any information on who has performed this minimally invasive approach regardless of device on patients who have had cancer surgery of the pelvis. Thank you

    Well call me crazy then. I tried prolotherapy and a hip reconstruction but no help. But the pain did disappear with lidocain injections! (Then it came back even worse) I had several surgeons miss it and misdiagnose me. My osteopath who does the prolotherapy was able to see a lot more with a thorough ultrasound exam and needle guidance. He said my SI was hyper mobile and also starting to fuse itself. The scar tissue was so thick it was bending his needles. Yup my gluteal is basically paralyzed and it messed my gait up so bad my hip wore out prematurely. I'm debating if I should do an SI fusion or a total hip replacement next. Ive been dealing with this for over 25 yrs now. I'm scared of surgeons after the last one put me into cardiac arrest then left my hip dislocated for over 8hrs. And they tend to just recommend whatever they're selling, then the next surgeon I talk to says I shouldnt have gotten that procedure done.

  • @MP-in4or
    @MP-in4or3 жыл бұрын

    I had two spinal fusion surgeries. The second was because the first failed and the hardware became lose. I was just starting my health career when this happened so I was fresh to the idea of back surgery. Looking back now which was 7 years ago my pain management doctor and my surgeon NEVER even mentioned that my SI joints could be bad. Despite me telling them that a lot of my pain was not in the center of my spine but rather down my leg, in my butt, and off to the side of the lower back. Of course I did not know anything nor heard about SI joint surgery. I just knew about the joint from anatomy. Seven years later, 30+ injections, years of PT, 2 spine surgeries, "I" final spoke up and said Im going to get my SI looked at. In my area only 4 surgeons do SI surgery. And I live in a hospitals city of big time hospitals. So I went to one doctor and he suggesting doing an SI injection to see if that was my pain. I did it three weeks ago. They did a MAC so I was asleep. Don't remember anything. It was wonderful. The next day my pain went down by 50%. No joke. I knew that it was my SI joint. Today I saw the surgeon and he said I could wait it out with another injection that only puts a band aid on it. I said nope....I want surgery. In 7 years with several surgeries on my body, I said I WANT this surgery. I am scheduled in three weeks to have my left fused followed by my right when I am healed. My point behind all of this. If your having low back pain make sure you get your pain management to consider SI joints and your surgeon to consider it. Do not let them talk you into fusing your lumbar without considering this and having testing done like me. Looking back I really did not need a lumbar fusion. I have been through hell every since. ALWAYS get a second opinion if you have decent insurance. Medicine is a practice. Every doc has a different opinion. What works for one person may not work for you. Everybody is different. And push your doctor to review your MRI or CT scan. With all do respect to radiologist, they don't see inside the body. They are trained to look at imaging, period. I work with docs in the OR. I can tell you many times when a doc said, "that was not on the MRI." Radiologist miss things all the time. Not because they are not looking. They just don't apply what they know to what the body looks like cut open. The radiologist completely missed my unfused spinal fusion and lose hardware. As soon as my surgeon saw the MRI he knew it did not fuse and the screws were lose. Get your doctor to look at the MRI, not read the dictation from the radiologist. Some docs go right off the radiologist report and don't look at the MRI.

    the SI joint DOES move. It functions to transfer weight from torso into legs. Fusion puts more pressure on the spine and the hip. It amazes me how ignorant these doctors are of the realities of surgery, maybe they don't want to know. fusion ALWAYS causes more load above and below. It's a risk Doctors don't tell patients about.

Without fusion there is pain and damage already in my hip and lumbar facets on that side. Mobility is just as important as pain management. I can't sit, stand, walk or lie on my back for any length of time. It can cause people to become suicidal so its better then no option after 13 years of horrid disabling pain.

    Hi I know it's been 3 years, but I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and my pelvis came apart. I had pelvic fusion surgery in 2016, i had two plates in the front with a bone graft as the pubic bone disintegrated. I had a bolt through the Si joints from one hip to the next , within a year and half the bolt became loose and was moving causing issues . I then had another surgery in 2019 in which 6 bolts ,12 stoppers , a wire mesh around my lower spine and a horseshoe plate placed over everything. It was pioneering surgery at the time. I'm thankful for the surgery but now I can't sit or stand for long . I can't walk more than 50 meters and sleeping is a great issue with side or back sleeping as many pillows are involved. I cannot find anyone who have had pelvic fusion surgery. Every time I try to research its always spinal fusion ,I just want to speak to anyone that has pelvic fusion surgery to see how they are getting on . To compare pain management ect . Apologies for long post .

    SI Joint Fusion is a LAST resort surgery. I regret having this surgery since it has produced hip problems, piriformis pain, and pubic symphysis pain. Do NOT get this surgery unless you are unable to stand/walk without severe pain. The SI joint DOES move. it provides extra give for the hip. It makes about as much sense as fusing a hip or a knee.

    After 12 years and lots of damage to my lumbar and hip it is my last option. My other is fused from birth so at least only one to do but after 12 years of pain meds and uncountable other procedures im unable to walk, sit, stand or lie on my back for more the a few minutes. Its time and im ready. I will at least have the satisfaction of knowing I did all I could if they have to increase my pain med. Rhumatoid arthritis on top of it does not help.

    For God's sake, don't have this done! The bones are SUPPOSED to move. Don't go to the doctor or the surgeon, go to the Osteopath, who will realign the bones . Ask for exercises to strengthen the ligaments to keep them in alignment. Then they can move as designed and return to centre after each step you take. This kind of surgery is last resort for bone erosion problems, NOT the pain of a displaced sacroileac or lumbosacral joint. It's a 20 minute job & £50 if sorted by an Osteopath. Doctors & surgeons don't know what Osteopaths do.
