Rusty, I had to laugh when I saw them watering the grass at the dam.
If I’m not mistaken, this lake was man-made in an area that is known to be a great southwest desert area..I think it’s pretty conclusive that mother nature has the final word..

It's the drought in Wyoming, Colorado and Utah that is causing the lack of snowpack in the mountains. That is where the water comes from. This is just a storage area for that water. Now if you were to say turning the desert into farm land is the problem you would be correct but as you have phrased your opinion it is incorrect.

Thanks Russ for showing us history, Lake Powell going back to being the Colorado River. Sad Indeed...Safe Travels
I lived in Phx for a number of year now but looking to move to NC soon. The lack of water is a double whammy. No water and no electricity will soon be a reality for us in the desert. I am afraid the government will be a day late and a dollar short in addressing this crisis.

OH, that BRIDGE! First time I saw that bridge was on a family vacation in 1967. We had spent the night at Page. While checking into the motel, Dad asked the desk clerk what there was to do in town. The reply was that most folk walked out onto the bridge and inspected the new dam, so that's what we did! Back then, the bridge deck was a steel GRATE! Out in the middle, you could look down, between your feet, and see the river 700 feet below you! To top it off, every time a truck crossed, that damned bridge must of bounced 6 inches! I was never so relieved when I stepped off that grate and onto solid ground. I'm also glad to see they replaced the grate with a solid deck! Keep up the travels.

The governmental ignorance is a direct reflection of the public ignorance. Or perhaps public passivity. If people spoke up en mass at the many problems in this country and did it frequently we could change our world!! But Americans are too caught up in the status quo and wanting to stay in their comfort zone. The coming changes with the decline in available water, constant fires, heat waves, drought are already beginning to push us out of comfort zone.
Don't have any water to drink, but by gawd they are going to have green grass haha
I have always thought Lake Powell is the most beautiful lake I have been on. It saddens me that the water levels are so low. Made many trips there in the 90s. Rented houseboat for a week. Breathtaking views in the canyons. Just need a couple of great rainy seasons to help fill it again. Pray for rain this year.

Thanks for the nice look at the Glen Canyon Dam. I have never been there. Yes the sprinklers should be better adjusted (probably on a timer system). Don't want waste in the water supply. Boondocking at the Grand canyon sounds great ‼️
Such a unique beautiful area. The dam and bridge is an awesome sight. I feel somewhat distressed about the water for those states. I don't see a fix except for conservation or restrictions, and hope for a heck of a lot of snow melting. Doubt by the watering going on at the dam, that many are actually conserving. Some I'm sure, but it would take everyone. It's too hot to go without electricity for air-conditioning. Cloud seeding doesn't work, pipelines to divert water from other areas out of the question. So much for crops, feel for those farmers, and wildlife. What a sad mess. Thanks for showing this, sometimes it helps to show reality to wake ppl up. 🙂👍
@cassiusdio6048

From what I’ve read Pipelines from other areas are not out of the question and are actually being taken very seriously because of the farmers, they supply much of food to the United States (60%) ? Unlike cloud seeding and other methods pipelines would absolutely work, I hope it’s true, if the politicians actually cared about infrastructure and about the people they should be doing something before it’s too late.

@@cassiusdio6048 From where though? Even taking the easiest route you'd be siphoning from the Platte, Arkansas, and Rio Grande headwaters and piping it into the Colorado basin. That alone would be an enormous undertaking that would take years to complete, but then those rivers are each already strained to their limits in so far as the amount of water they deliver compared to the number of people depending on it. Do you sell out Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, West Texas, New Mexico, and Northern Mexico (not to mention the states possibly affected further downstream; less water flowing into the Missouri, etc) in order to supply southern CO, AZ, and southern CA? I know Kansas in particular has been filing lawsuits for close to a century against Colorado for their overconsumption of the Arkansas, and given there are droughts in the plains and midwest I don't see a situation where Colorado and the federal gov't aren't immediately hit with dozens of lawsuits halting any redistribution of water. It's a scary situation for the entire country as people tend to do what has to be done to save themselves, and individual states will as well. Civil war is already being discussed due to the political chasm separating the left and right/blue & red states. If you add water rights into the mix it could be an absolute disaster... At the same time if the farmers in AZ and Southern CA don't get enough water our domestic supply of vegetables will take a sharp decrease at a time where food shortages are already slated to occur. The Colorado river basin and those that depend on it needed a fix 20 years ago, but aside from limitations on water consumption nothing was ever done. No movement to build desalination plants on the CA coast, no local pipelines from Central CA to Southern CA... I'm afraid we kicked the can too far down the road and we're out of time.

@@mfallen6894 they do have pipelines for oil and gas that are as long as what they woul need so to build one or two for water shouldn't be a problem. where from? i hear the Mississippi river, they say there is too much water there and it actually is quite a problem. to be honest we plan to sell our homes here in the northeast and move to Arizona (Bullhead city area) and would like to see something done so i can enjoy the lakes, 😆 🤣 but it's really important that they do something before it's too late.

Glenn Canyon Dam is building up a lot of sediment. The talk here in Las Vegas is that the Glenn Canyon Dam should never have been built as it was constructed under flawed and ignored information. There is talk of breaching the Glenn Canyon Dam to save the water needed for Arizona, California and Nevada.

It will happen in the next 10 years, according to the all of the hydrology professors at my UNLV Geoscience department. Lake Powell (or possibly Lake Mead depending who wins) will be gone in the next 10 years. Obviously Lake Mead supplies more people, is more efficient, and doesn’t suck up millions of of gallon of water per year from porous sandstone like Lake Powell

Memories, memories ... You have a gift to make absolutely beautiful videos, Russ. I spent a lot of time exploring this corner of Northern Arizona (Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly, Kayenta, Page, Cameron and the Grand Canyon Eastern entrance, Flagstaff, etc). In Cameron, just opposite US Rte 64, there's a Chevron refueling station managed by the Navajos where you will find the lowest gas prices in the whole Southwest. Flagstaff is a "nodal point", meaning that from this city, you can go East on I-40 to Petrified Forest Nat'l Park and Meteor Crater, West on I-40 to Williams and take the train towards Grand Canyon Village or South on I-17 towards Phoenix and Central and Southern Arizona. I took a trip out there in 2012 from East Texas in March of that year. Glad I got to see it with more water in it even though it was getting old in. When I left lake Powell I drove up to Bryce canyon in Utah. I had timed my trip with a late season snow storm that was pushing through. I punched through it in New Mexico spent the night at Powell and then when I got to Bryce canyon there was snow on the ground everywhere with the green trees and the orange and white rocks sticking up through the snow. I got the photographs that I had planned on getting. But I could not explore Bryce canyon because of the snow on the trails so just had to see it from the rim. Sure hope I get to go back Sunday.
