Edward Cross who was killed in the Wheatfield wore a red bandana into most of the battles he participated in. However at Gettysburg, he wore a black one because he foresaw his own death.

I was in Gettysburg last week. I was shocked to see a monument to California troops in that area. THE BLOODY WHEAT FIELD !
