Recently I discovered the festival of Hyakinthia, to make a long explanation short, it was a Spartan holiday that spanned 3 days and celebrated Apollo and his Spartan lover, prince Hyacinthus. The first day was spent in mourning of the prince, no flowers to be worn, no song or dance, however the different festival cakes were to be eaten through the three days. The second day was filled with songs, dancing hymns and offerings for the god Apollo, Athenians were invited and the Helots (the slave/servant population of Sparta) were encouraged to join! the third day the same as the first, silent and spent in mourning. My patron deity is Apollo, and I personally believe one of my spirit guides is Hyacinthus. I’ve been thinking of celebrating this festival for a while, but was never sure how, this jump started the ideas! Thank you so much!
