========= The Attack of the Dead Men LYRICS =========
Turmoil at the front
Wilhelm's forces on the hunt
There’s a thunder in the east
It’s an attack of the deceased
They’ve been facing poison gas
7000 charge en masse
Turn the tide of the attack
And force the enemy to turn back
And that’s when the dead men are marching again
Osowiec then and again
Attack of the dead, hundred men
Facing the lead once again
Hundred men
Charge again
Die again
Two combatants spar
Hindenburg against the Tsar
Move in 12 battalions large
Into a Russian counter-charge
They’ll be fighting for their lives
As their enemy revives
Russians won’t surrender, no
Striking fear into their foe
========= Historic Fact ==========
In the early morning of August 6, 1915, the German gas batteries opened up and a dark green smog of poison gas crept over the Russian lines at Osowiec Fortress.

But in this case I think its quite acceptable, in fact its awesome, because it doesnt take away from the fact that 2300 dudes, (300 spartans plus some 2000 odd athenian reinforcements) held off a literal swarm of persians so long. TL;DR: Over embellishment is indeed present, but its appropriate for the tale being told.

They say that when Leningrad was under siege Shostakovich wrote a symphony with the name “Leningrad”, they played it in Leningrad under burning siege and it went out on the radios, the Germans heard and cried because they realised they would be defeated, the Russians had made beauty under the worst conditions, how can one defeat that? They said. Russians always defeat death in the most unexpected ways.

And it's really true, in the lessons before Victory Day we are told about the terrible days for Leningrad. As a person who was born and raised in Russia, and has been studying its history since birth, I can say that the Second World War is really scary, and the worst thing is to understand what happened in besieged Leningrad. Many blockade survivors after the end of the war could not believe until their death that the famine was over, and many died after the blockade was broken from the amount of food.

All memes aside, the sheer bravery and willpower of the Russians that day cannot be overstated. They had been gassed to the point of being horrifically disfigured, coughing up blood and even bits of their own lungs. They really were dead men, with only days left to live at most. And yet, despite the excruciating pain they suffered, they found the strength to affix their bayonets for one last, desperate charge, determined to make their last few hours count. We are right to honor and admire these men.

Your forces halted their advance. The unmistakable crack of a rifle being fired rang out. A young man staggered back, clutching his chest. A ragged blotch of crimson stained his uniform, and blood had begun seeping out from between his fingers. He dropped to his knees, then fell back. Who had shot? It couldn't have been one of your own. Everyone turned to the massive plume of toxic fog, breathing heavily through their masks. Footsteps. Rapid, crazed footsteps. Then they came into sight. A horrendous, bone-chilling sight. A handful of the Russians had not let the gas claim them. They were charging, bayonets lowered, steel-blades craving blood in revenge for the spilling of their own. The handful became a hundred. A hundred, angry faces, flesh sloughing off of their faces, blisters erupting on their corroding skin. You open your mouth to scream. All that comes out is a squeak. You're frozen in place, terror gripping you like the hand of God Himself refusing to let you move. They were getting closer, carrying with them the stench of blood, and the sound of suffering. Do you remember those you've killed before, soldier? These ones remember, too. And these ones are pissed.

Today I visited Osowiec Fortress, entry checked by army. The great piece of history in the remaining walls, museum and preserwed buildings. Tomorrow I'm going 40 km south to Wizna (Strękowa Góra) to see the captain Raginis bunkers. The tour guide mentioned that the Swedish Group Sabaton has the song about Osowiec Fortress defense and about cpt. Raginis in Wizna. Of course I came here because of the songs The Attack of The Dead Men and 40:1 :)

@@jaytea4093 Actually, yes, it's true. But "The Attack of the Dead Men" is a counterattack of a particular regiment that guarded the Osowiec fortress in 1915. So it was the Zemlyansk regiment in Osowiec 1915. Zemlyansk is a small city in the Voronezh region (Russia). Consequently, the Attack of the Dead Men is directly related to the ethnically Russian soldiers of the Russian empire, but not to the Poles.
