As I learnt Finnish when I worked there I instantly recognised the title "Talvisota" it is the Finnish for "Winter War" the first part of Finland's involvement in the Second World War. When the Soviet Union was allied with Nazi Germany and they gave each other the countries between them. Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland were "awarded" to the Soviet Union. Finland was the only one that successfully fought them off but even they knew that after the snows melted the Soviet troops would make headway so they sued for peace. I remember going to the Mannerheim Museum in Helsinki who was the military commander in Finland and he had a fascinating life. BTW the term "Molotov Cocktail" comes from this war because the Soviets when they bombed various Finnish towns said they were dropping food supplies so the Finns described their makeshift weapons as "cocktails" for Molotov - the then foreign minister of the Soviet Union. My problem is I am a history nerd so when I travel to a country I like to learn the history of the place. Some of my friends in some places say I know more about their history than they do LOL.

That is so awesome to travel, especially if you're a history buff! I wish I wasn't so scared to travel (both air and sea) because I always wanted to visit Napoleon's resting place. Thanks for that background bud, cheers!!

@@cloudedreactions2578 Napoleon's resting place is in Paris at Les Invalides which has the much more impressive Museums of the army, of (mostly 18th century) relief maps of towns and contemporary history (which are much more interesting). Paris is interesting but you do need to get out of the metropolis as the rest of France is very different Normandy for the D-day landing sites and the Bayeux tapestry and the cider! Northern France for the first world war trenches and Belgium for the same. And the Belgians do good beer too. I am sorry to hear you don't like flying or going by boats I am not a fan of flying but love boats and trains so from where I am based in Europe (Formerly Britain and now Germany) I can get to Finland with ferries and trains. One route used to involve going on a train onto a boat and crossing from Germany to Denmark but that has stopped as they are building a tunnel under the sea at present.

Welcome back! I think that everyone who listen to sabaton learn something, I would be surprised if someone knew exactly everything in all their songs beforehand, Im from sweden and we had alot of history in school, WWl and WWll was drilled in to our heads but there are still things that was missed and things I´ve forgotten over the years so it´s definitely not just you and to be honest, it´s way more fun to learn history as an adult this way than through boring books in school.

Heyo! Good to see you back! I am so shocked I am two days late to react xD Hm... so even though you now know this was about the Witner War between Russia and Finland, I thought I should point out... It was very close that there would be an alliance between Russia and Nazi Germany. I don't know how well known that is..... But basically, they had a deal. But Stalin wanted the eastern lands, and Hitler was greedy and stabbed Russia's little toe. I guess we should ocunt ourselves lucky that's the path they took.... :/ On your comment on attackign russia in winter.... Well, THEY were unprepared for winter war against Finland. And P.S. Sweden also attacked Russia, or battled Russia..... And P.P.S. This war isn't really a part of WW2... not initially.... And a lot of people mistake Finland for being Nazi sympathizers for this, but NOPE... our brothers and sisters of Finland were NOT anything rmeotely like that..... but Germany offered help.... and since all other Allies refused to anger Russia, Finland took the aid. And on knowing the stories before the songs... Some of them. Like this Winter war, we knew. Sweden did send volunteers to Finland to help, and also about 80% of our machines and weapons e.t.c.

Hey! I didn't think I'd see certain faces again :D I've been learning now that Germany and Russia would've attacked each other either way, there's so little that I know it's kind of astonishing! Oh so are you learning some things right along with me? That's epic! 😂

Russia is todays European Nazi´s . They want to rule the whole of Europe and take country by country step by step by step. For Russia there is never peace ... its just a neccesary paus , so they can replace what they lost in the previous war, before continue with the next country and next war Motti tactics is military slang for "Totally encircule an enemy unit" The small but very brave Finish army fought back very strong . Using their excellent skiing skills fighting with what they had. plus SISU!!!

So many events or potential events popping up everywhere, it's scary to think about. Ukraine/Russia, China/Taiwan, Puerto Rico overrun by a cannibal gang, I hear Sweden has been getting multiple bomb threats. The dam is about to give way and it's anyone's guess how it'll all turn out. Good seeing you brotha!

Oh, mate, there was such a lot I didn't know before I found Sabaton. In fact, I didn't even like learning history at all! As a Swede, you learn about The Winter War, of course, but I would be lying if I said our schools focused a lot on American history. So it's not at all that strange that you didn't know about The Winter War before this.

@@cloudedreactions2578 Haha, thank you! That's a little bit silly of the Sabaton fans, I think. You don't let yourself be taught something because you already know everything about it; you do it to learn something new. And learning is always a worthwhile goal. That should be celebrated, not mocked.

German is so different from finnish. German is actually close to english. Talvisota=winter war straight translation. Motti is when you surround your enemy and take out one by one. Finnish defence forces still rely on this tactic. It's not very likely that sweden would attack us lol

Napoleon didn't invade russia during the Winter. The Reich, if i say his name comment might get deleted, didnt invade during the winter. Both invaded during the summer. Trying to defeat the Russians BEFORE it became Winter. For Napoleon he thought if his just crush the Russia Army and take their captial he would win. But the Russians disnt care about their capital and burned it themselves just as Napoleon was gonna take it, a month later the first snowfall of winter fell and Napoleon had to make a hasty retreat, and he still lost houndreds of men. He lost alot of his men during the Russian campaign because of a very intense russian Heat, again he started the campaign in the summer, and lack of Suppies as Napoleon's doctrine was having a fast army by living off the land....and the Russians love using scorched earth tactics so there wasnt anything to live off of for Napoleon's army. When the Reich invaded it had a few months to crush the Soviets before they would start losing because that was how long their oil would last in the Soviet campaign, the underestimate the amount of reserves the soviets had aswell. The goal of the Reich and the Goal of Napoleon differed as Adolf wanted to strike the oil fields to regain Oil to power the German's war machines, tanks, planes, etc. His generals wanted to be Napoleons and thought if they took Moscow they would win, which they wouldnt have as they were fighting Russians. Again Napoleon and the Reich invaded Russia DURING the Summer trying to defeat the Russians BEFORE it was Winter. Napoleon's invasion started Jun 24, 1812 Germany and its Axis allies began invading the Soviet Union on Sunday, June 22, 1941

Looks like I need to listen to a lot more of my history rock teachers for a better understanding of history. I could have sworn I learned that some great tacticians failed during winters, not avoided them. Man, have I got my facts all jumbled, thanks!

@@cloudedreactions2578 Napoleon and Adolf did fail during winters, but they started during the summer with the intent to win before winter. Russia refused to give Napoleon the crushing battle he wanted and lead him further and further into their territory, making him have to actually use his supply trains cause they scorched earth their territory so he couldn't use it to supply his army and therefore couldnt use his doctrine of speed and out of maneuvering his enemy. When they finally allowed him a battle while they did lose they then burned down their capital before he took it. He then sent a letter demanding the Tzar's surrender. A month later it started snowing. At that point Napoleon started to retreat in which case the Russians used the Corsacks to attack his retreating army. For Adolf he only had a couple months before Germany ran out of Oil during a offensive against the Soviets, and as such the Germans needed to knock out the Soviets as quick and as soon as possible. They failed. Adolf's generals thought if they defeated the Soviets and took Moscow they would win, just as Napoleon thought, but Adolf wanted to focus on the Caucasus' and the Crimea as they had Oil Fields he could've used to resupply his army. As we know he failed to get/keep the fields and would go on to lose. The plans the two had required they win before it was Winter. Its why they didn't have winter gear, the goal was to win before winter. But as the saying goes, no plans survive contact with the enemy.
