========= Long Live The King LYRICS ==========
Dreams are seldom shattered by a bullet in the dark
Rulers come and rulers go, will our kingdom fall apart?
Who shall we now turn to, when our leaders lost their heart?
Lives are lost but at what cost, will the grand dream fall apart?
Killed by his own or by his foes, turned the tide
Three hundred years still no one knows, the secret remains
Broken dreams so grand, sing of his final stand, long live Carolus
Brought by soldiers’ hand, back to the fatherland, long live Carolus Rex
Brought him back to Sweden, where we put him in a chest
Years of war and agony, now the king can finally rest
What will be uncovered, from that cold November night
Fredrikshald, what happened there, will it ever come to light?
For their honor
For their glory
For the men that fought and bled
A soldier from Sweden remembers the dead
========= Historic Fact ==========
On November 30, 1718, Charles XII of Sweden was killed by a piece of metal that pierced his left temple during the siege of Fredriksten. The circumstances of his death are still unclear to this day.

The circumstances actually aren’t unclear anymore. A university in Finland figured out it was the enemy who killed him. They did this by doing tests on a ballistics dummy and determined that it couldn’t have been a friendly from close range and that it was a piece of grapeshot that killed him.

Joakim has a certain passion and energy in his voice that is REALLY hard to match despite best efforts. It's really noticeable when you listen to certain covers of Sabaton songs - they're not bad by any means, but Joakim brings a particular energy to the way he sings it elevates the art.

Our current royal family (Bernadotte) is the one that replaced Karl XIIs family (Vasa). Since the two have no history aside from the replacement (and Bernadotte is an originally French family. Also, aside from possible illegitimate children the Vasa family no longer exists. The family was on the verge of death over and over as everyone kept having only one child (except Gustav, the first of them all, who had 14. Unfortunately, the three men killed each other and the women didn’t give birth to more than 3 children who in turn had no children). Happens when you’re constantly leading armies from age 16 to 40 (not just Karl XII, his father, his grandfather, his great grandfather and his great great grandfather all did this) and your wife is sitting at home waiting for you.

Yo sick pfp I kinda wanna have a "dance" But in all seriousness I'm listening to this after a celebration of life held in honor for my neighbors dog to remember her. R.i.p Mia, birth date unknown to me, died 2/1/2024. You will be remembered as a great dog who helped many ex soldiers get through many struggles.

I don't think it's underrated, it's their most successful album made with hitting platinum status 4 times in Sweden. To me personally Carolus Rex album is their Magnum Opus and I don't think they'll ever manage to make a better one.

Even though I am not of Swedish origin, I can't tell you how strongly this song moved me. Having listened to most of the other songs Sabaton has done you can hear the every band member put their souls into this, both the English and Swedish editions of the song. A truly beautiful song for the ages on a man that history shouldn't ever forget or wash away.

@@EmperorProtects1 The kings entourage did not hear a shot, so what is most likely a whole hostile fortification that rain constant fire in the night, at the general direction the siege work are, and one bullet get lucky, or a "friendly" assassin take a shoot into the night, in the general direction there the king is and get lucky? Friendly "assassination" is the more politic correct story, the king did destroy the Swedish empire.

Other songs by this channel are mostly fast paced, representing the stress of war. However, in this song about Charles XII's sudden death, the song is slow, potentially hinting at the grief the entire kingdom of Sweden had.

translation from swedish wikipedia about the city of uddevalla: "In August 1716, the young Karl XII passed Uddevalla for the first time. On December 13, 1718, the king came to the city for the second time, this time dead. The body was embalmed and placed in a locally made coffin. There was also a field day at Kungstorget in Uddevalla before the hearse left for Stockholm."
