Song: Camouflage
Author: Sabaton
Movies: We Were Soldiers (2002), Apocalypse Now (1979)
Lyrics for "Camouflage"
I was a P.F.C. on a search patrol, huntin' Charlie down
It was the jungle wars of '65
My weapon jammed and I got stuck way out and all alone
And I could hear the enemy movin' in close outside
Just then I heard a twig snap and I grabbed my empty gun
And I dug in scared while I counted down my fate
And then a big marine, with a pair of friendly eyes
Appeared there at my shoulder and said "Wait."
If Charlie wants to tangle now, he'll have two to dodge"
I said, "Well, thanks a lot!" I told him my name and asked him his
And he said "The boys just call me Camouflage"
Woah-oh-oh-oh, Camouflage
Things are never quite the way they seem
Woah-oh-oh-oh, Camouflage
I was awfully glad to see this big Marine
Well, we fought all night, side by side, we took our battle stance
And I wondered how the bullets missed this man
'Cause they seemed to go right through him just as if he wasn't there
And in the mornin' we both took a chance and ran
And it was near the riverbank when the ambush came
And I thought it was the end, and we were had
Then a bullet with my name on it came buzzin' through a bush
And that big Marine, he just swat it with his hand
Just like it was a fly...
Woah-oh-oh-oh, Camouflage
Things are never quite the way they seem
Woah-oh-oh-oh, Camouflage
I was awfully glad to see this big marine
When he led me outta danger I saw my camp and waved goodbye
He just winked at me from the jungle and then was gone
When I got back to my H.Q., I told 'em about my night
And the battle I'd spent with a big Marine named Camouflage
When I said his name, the soldier gulped, and a medic took my arm
And led me to a green tent on the right
He said "You may be tellin' the true, boy, but this here is Camouflage
And he's been right here since he passed away last night
But before he went, he said Semper Fi, and said his only wish
Was to save a young Marine caught in a barrage
So here, take his dog tag, son, I know he'd want you to have it now"
Woah-oh-oh-oh, Camouflage
Things are never quite the way they seem
Woah-oh-oh-oh, Camouflage
I was awfully glad to see this big marine
Woah-oh-oh-oh, Camouflage
Things are never quite the way they seem
Woah-oh-oh-oh, Camouflage
I was awfully glad to see this big marine
Woah-oh-oh-oh, Camouflage
Things are never quite the way they seem
Woah-oh-oh-oh, Camouflage
I was awfully glad to see this big marine

The idea of a protecting spirit of a duty bound fallen warrior, who you at first don't know is a spirit until later, is suuuuch a cool trope to me. I've only seen it a handful of times but it's always a beautiful yet sad twist. Honor and heroism beyond the grave.

it is a trope with a lot of spectrum true.... its also one that lends itself for both single avatar... or whole groups of them with a more 'nuanced' or 'context' enlightened view then the period they are from/in... as its for the vaules of its duty it returns.. not.. for oaths to a specific place or person.. giving quite a lot of writing freedom while staying 'consistent' so to speak so for example , one can use it to make it about a veteran returning to protect a young marine he saw and ensure they survive the battle... so that they can steer ther society onto more responsible lees blood thirsty paths , or maintain martial arts to protect it later... but also something i love myself if one merges it with the 'ghost ship' trope.... concept of the ww2 dreadnoughts rising out of ther cold graves ..either with ther crews having meet the spirits of those the regimes that brainwashed them trampled on in life ...and decided to give up ther claims on afterlifes for the sake of changing the course of unjust wars... or to rise decades later to prevent history from repeating itself.. either way.. yes its a cool trope ,the desire to protect by a warrior ,or several burning so strong it leets them cross the veil in its name ,its easy to see why nearly all cultures that experienced large scale war have it in some form or another.

Lyrics I was a PFC on search patrol hunting Charlie down It was the Jungle wars of '65 My weapon jammed and I got stuck way out and all alone and I could hear the enemy moving in close outside Just thenI heard a twig snap and I grabbed my empty gun and I dug in scared while I counted down my fate And then a big marine with a pair of friendly eyes appeared there at my shoulder and said "Wait" "If Charlie wants to tango now he'll have two to dodge" I said "Well thanks alot" I told him my name and asked him his and he said "The boys just call me Camouflage" Woah hoh oh ho Camouflage things aren't quite the way they seem woah hoh oh ho Camouflage I was awfully glad to see this big marine Well we fought all night side by side took our battle stance and I wondered how the bullets missed this man Cause they seemed to go right through him just as if he wasn't there and in the morning we both took a chance and ran And it was near the river bank when the ambush came and I thought this was they that we were had And then a bullet with my name on it came on buzzin' through a bush and the big marine he just swat it with his hand JUST LIKE IT WAS A FLY Woah hoh oh ho Camouflage things aren't quite the way they seem woah hoh oh ho Camouflage I was awfully glad to see this big marine When he lead me out of danger I saw my camp and waved goodbye he just winked at me from the Jungle then he was gone when I went to my HQ and told them 'bout my night and the battle I spent with a big marine named Camouflage the soldier gulped and a medic took my arm and lead me to a green tent on the right He said "You maybe telling the truth boy but this here is Camouflage and he's been here since he passed away last night but before he went Er Sempler fy and said his only wish was to save a young marine caught in a barrage so here take his dog tags son I know he'd want you to have it now" Woah hoh oh ho Camouflage things aren't quite the way they seem woah hoh oh ho Camouflage I was awfully glad to see this big marine Woah hoh oh ho Camouflage things aren't quite the way they seem woah hoh oh ho Camouflage I was awfully glad to see this big marine WOAH HOH OH HO CAMOUFLAGE THINGS AREN'T QUITE THE WAY THEY SEEM WOAH HOH OH HO CAMOUFLAGE I WAS AWFULLY GLAD TO SEE THIS BIG MARINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if this comment will be seen, but recently I was looking for the translation of the song "great war", since I am Brazilian and my English is not the best (but I understood a little of the lyrics). I was curious and went after the lyrics of the song, and went after knowing the translation and I found a video that contained the translations, but he used his MV as background scenes. What really irritated me was not having seen his due credits for having done a beautiful editing, but also taking the credits of the video in the background as if he had done it. The name of the channel that did this is "War Rock's- Legendas". Edit: While i looked at this guy's channel, i noticed that there were other MV's made by you (red baron, seven pillars, price of a mile and others) that was not given due credit. I guess there must be more videos stolen without data or credits due to other creators.

It's an archive channel. They copy the videos because the videos often get removed because some people keep reporting the videos for being too "violent" or because they "support fascism" and other such shit. Other times its because of overly aggressive copyright bots.

@@1320crusier without the artillery from firebase Falcon, or was it x-ray... anyway... they would have been quickly overrun. I read part of the book a while ago and the barrels of the big guns (105, 155 mm) are only good for ohhhh I dunno...not much more than a couple thousand shells...most of the tubes needed replacing after that fight. What they would do is form these 3-sided boxes of exploding shells and use that as a shield against enemy attacks...if the GIs were moving forward they would move the box forward 50 or 100 yards at a time... I'll say one thing for the US in nam. They had good artillery and they knew how to use it. Did pretty much the same thing in Korea and late WW2. Artillery is king of the Battlefield. Infantry is his Queen.
