SAAB ... So brilliant and forward thinking... Breaks my heart to know what you ended up as. In 1978 so far ahead of the game... You saw the future and a future that with current emission control has now become manifest exactly as you predicted... I still love your cars so much... At least via the purity of excellence of SCANIA, in some way, you live on. Gone but NEVER Forgotten

I fell in love with this Car from the first time I saw it. Being 14 when it appeared, I obviously had to wait for the day I could own one. 20 years later the day finally arrived. Dad was a Car collector and he acquired a 1978 99 turbo combi, and a parts car, and gave it to me as a birthday present. What a wonderful feeling when the Turbo kicked in....hoo-ah The best car in my life. Thanks Dad

Proof that Saab were far ahead of their time. Its all gone back to turbo charging now due to the increasing demand for fuel economy but also the never ending quest for more power.

Saab 99 is my favorite Saab car! It was innovative, nice looking and good quality. After that it went downhill..

The worst thing that ever haoppened to SAAB was GM. I hope they survive this crisis.

Beautiful! It really became "the power of the future" in Saab timeline. And only in the few last years we have seen other brands making turbo engines for the fuel eficiency goal. Some brands used to make a "sport" version of a car, or in highest performance cars....

Saab such humble genius, and character. I had 4 at different times and they were all interesting. GM among all its many dud efforts must place their destruction of Saab as a pinnacle of their stupidity. When Bob Lutz said it was ok for a Subaru and a GMC to be a Saab he might as well been named Klutz... what a tool. Saab RIP

I wonder if the late, great Raymond Baxter put his money where his mouth was and bought a 99 Turbo? I for one hope that he did and that he really enjoyed owning/driving it :)

SAAB didn't make the first turbocharged engine in the world. Pretty sure Chevrolet, BMW and Porsche all sold turbocharged cars before SAAB turbo'd the 99. SAAB made the first mass produced turbocharged car. I love my 900 Turbo S :)

"How important do you think is this arrangement for the future" Nice question, so Saab built the first working turbo engine in the world in the seventies. What they did nearly 40 years ago isn´t really reached by most other car makers today. Saab is the turbo-pioneer, there is no other car in the world which is so close in conjuction with the word TURBO than Saab - really no other car. Probably the most underestimated car in the world.

its strange as I had no idea when I would drive my 2001 9-3 and there would be a BMW 325 i around on the road, it seemed to me that the BMW always got a little friskier or agitated if driven by an young chap, if i say so, as if trying to prove something to me. It took me a long time to realize what it was. And now i miss my car after selling it end 2014! It was fine and not a lot of mileage, and well taken care of.
