I have watched all your videos so far on your SA-35 and enjoyed all of them. I like how through you are with the issues you are having. Looking forward to your follow up video after you get it back from Springfield. I am very much interested in buying a SA-35 but think I’ll wait a little longer.

From what I've read, the issue is that the slot cut into the slide where the extractor lives needs to be deburred. The cocking serrations that are interrupted by this slot actually "dig in" to the extractor, and prevent the extractor claw from rotating back in so as to get a good grip on the cartridge in the chamber. I bet if you punch out that roll pin that passes vertically down through the slide which forms the pivot point for the extractor, you can then remove the extractor and see what has been described as teeth marks on the surface of the extractor. Make a few strokes with a precision Swiss file to smooth off the "points" of the cocking serrations where they meet the extractor slot and the problem will disappear for ever.

serial number 7000 here with FTF out of the box, with occasional FTE. had to have extractor reprofiled. the extractor channel seems to have been fixed, But it appears the extractor is MIM part and not forged. so some are in spec while others are not. runs great now though! great to shoot a hipower that you dont feel bad slamming on.

As we all know, an 80% receiver is not a firearm per fed law and thus does not require a serial number or an importation stamp. Further, if that 80% receiver were imported from overseas - say from Turkey - it could be finished in the USA and assembled with parts, perhaps also made overseas (cuz parts don’t require import stamps), and then legally stamped as “Made in the USA” and then given a serial number. Fans of the FEG Hi-Powers know this exact process was done in the 1990s by Charles Daley on their Hi-Power clones - 80% receivers - and all the other parts - were made in Hungary, imported to the USA, and finished and assembled here - and then stamped “Made in USA”. All perfectly legit per current fed law and ATF rules. Deceptive perhaps - but legit. Beretta / Benelli has been doing this for decades with Turkish parts, and as long as the final finishing and assembly is done in Italy, it can be stamped “Made in Italy” - and we all pay alot more for that than if it said “Made in Turkey.” Now, when did the Tisas Regent Hi-Power disappear from the US market? And when was the SA-35 introduced? Just asking questions…

Saw this gun at my local gun store the other day and kind of fell in love with the way it looks and felt in my hand, but after seeing a bunch of reviews with it failing to extract I'm not so sure about it anymore. I'm a polymer guy, and all my polymer pistols have no failure what so ever. I've been really wanting to add this SA35 and some 1911s into my EDC rotation, but after seeing failure after failure videos, I'm not sure if I can trust it with my life.

Hi Jerry. I picked up the SA35 after being returned from Springfield. The documentation that accompanied the pistol was a packing list that indicated repair and test complete. Tuned Extractor, safety checked and tested 75 rounds. Nothing of what physical repair was performed, parts replaced etc. I called Springfield and customer services to understand what was done and could he explain what tuned the extractor meant and customer service danced like stepping on hot rocks anyway after about 15 min of discussion customer service said a repair tech will be calling me. So I will wait another day then I will call back. Now for the meat. I went to the range yesterday and test fired slow and rapid fire 50 rds of Federal 115grn followed by 50rds 115grn of my hand loads and did not have a single issue!! I plan on doing the same today but putting more rds threw the pistol. Part of my testing today will include accuracy as yesterday my focus was just putting rounds down range to see if the original issue would repeat itself. So as of this writing i'm good.

    A) If you actually get a call back from Springfield I'll be shocked. B) Springfield customer service people are apparently unable to discuss anything beyond what is written on the repair order. C) That is EXCELLENT news about your pistol, congrats! I hope it continues to serve you well. Regarding accuracy, I tested my stock SA-35 against a customized Hi-Power clone and it more than held its own kzread.info/dash/bejne/rISd29uGisq-lJs.html I wouldn't be surprised if your experience is similar. Good luck.

I would inspect how the extractor interacts with a cartridge as it sits against the breech face when it's fed. An easy thing to set up by hand for inspection purposes. The extractor should easily hold the round in place against the breech face. I would inspect the extractor "hook" where it makes contact with the cartridge rim to see how well it "grabs" onto the rim to extract it. It may need to be reprofiled. Otherwise, if working properly here, the extractor spring is probably ok. Another place to look is where the extractor may contact the housing it rides in, make sure that it is cut with sufficient clearance so that the hook portion is allowed to fully engage the cartridge rim. I would also look at replacing the recoil spring with one that is a few pounds heavier that allows the barrel/slide recoil time to slow allowing cartridge pressure to subside just before extraction begins. I suspect that the recoil spring may well be responsible for this problem!

i had to reprofile my extractor. kept getting FTF and FTE right out of the box. the light recoil spring sure doesnt help. but BHP shouldnt need that. after reprofile shoots like it should. extractor appears to me MIM part and not milled, the edges were shite.

Hi Jerry, Before I made the purchase I called Springfield and I was told very few had the failure to feed issues. I asked if Springfield corrected the issues and she said yes. I asked if they collected data by SNs and was told know but later SNs should not have the issue. On that I asked if she could define later SN and she could not. She also told me that Springfield would correct any issues I may encounter. So feeling confident I made the purchase. Within 15 min I'm at the range. First shot on target, Second shot on target and no ejection ahahaha. I had 2 more failures to eject after that. I went to the firearms store while the gun was still hot and off to Springfield for repair. Then I saw your first video and I was absolute B.S. Then I saw your second video I felt better, I love the Browning I have two FNs made in Belgium 68 T-Series and 80 both in pristine condition. My brother has one of our dads GI bring backs with German marking in excellent shape. I will let you know how things go. Good videos by the way!!

An ambidextrous safety would be great for sure but given the naming conventions of this gun I think they wanted to hold relatively closely to the original military specification. Plus the price point on this gun may have had something to do with it. My hope is that Springfield figures this out and this model is successful enough that we get upgraded versions, as well as detective versions, and dare I hope for an aluminum frame version.

It's like they can't get anything right these days. Given a choice of one of the new hi powers or a Israeli turn in I would go with the Israeli hi power. On the python I would spend the extra and get an original.

I mean. In my limited experience with SA.. they are solid bunk. Their QC is TERRIBLE. The 1911 I got from them was garbage. How it left the factory like that , I don’t know. Chunk of steel missing from the slide stop cut. Poor finishing. Scratched up. Barrel fit is awful. Scratches up the hood. But the hunk of metal the person cut out on accident while millling the frame? Should have immediately been melted down, and started over. They just aren’t nicely made guns. Honestly for a 1911… the Turkish made Tisas variants are far better guns, and better made for the money. Can’t go wrong. Sorry all you “buy American” folks. Turkey is doing it better. Be happy to try again when American manufacturers are making quality pistols. I really want a Hi power, but I won’t be buying an SA. Will wait for the new FN. isn’t a to spec HP, and won’t take most HP parts or mags, but will still be a far better HP.

Hi Kevin, thanks for your comment. Your experience with SA is interesting since I have had a very different experience. While I have never owned a Springfield 1911 I have shot and handled several and I have always felt that they were doing a great job. I did have a 1st generation EMP that I "long term loaned" from a friend and that gun was great. I have to agree with you about the Tisas 1911s, I have one in 9mm and it is a great pistol. I am planning a video about that gun very soon (once it warms up here). 2 questions 1. Did you buy your SA 1911 from a gun store locally? Were the problems you wrote about evident when you bought it? 2. What steps did you take with Springfield and did they make it right? Thanks again for the different perspective and experience.

The problems I see with the new (cause it really is a new gun) FN "High Power" is that it is really just a visually similar handgun that is different in many ways. Hi-Power holsters and accessories (and I believe magazines) won't work with it so you aren't buying a Hi-Power pattern gun at all. Heck, by this SA_35, or the Tisas versions + $600 in gunsmithing to make it perfect for you and you are very near the price of the FN "High Power". I am with you though, I would buy one if I had a spare $1350. I still have high hopes for the SA-35 once they iron out the bugs. SA makes an amazing 1911, there is no reason they can't get this right.
