S3:E4 NHL GOALIE STICK HACKS
We learn several key skills and hacks NHL goalies use to make their lives easier and keep more pucks out of their net. Protecting your limits, cutting passes in the traditional post hug and RVH post hug positions are key features of a top goalie's game.
We also get a little tough love for parents who are pushing work ethic into their little goalies.

My girl asked me, "Do goalies have the biggest sticks?" "Yes", I replied.

@@FutureProGoaltending actually coach this reminds me of a question that perhaps you can add to a future video. I have small, beautiful, dainty feet. I am an 8.5 so my CCM tacks are 6.5, which I guess for them is technically intermediate. The length of the blade, I don't mean the height but the amount of blade in contact with the ice is much shorter than my old tacks, as these are a much newer style, no cowling. Wondering if you think this has any effect on skating for better or worse. Thanks and have a great week

@@yellowgorilla it won’t be functionally noticeable to you after you get used to them. If for some reason, you can’t, the can profile your skates to match the “contact print” of your old blades if you preferred them.

Great video! I'm a rec goalie playing 3on3 on a smaller ice pad. With the tighter action I tend to be very active with my stick intercepting as many tight passes as possible. On occasion, though, I block the pass deflecting it out to one of their point guys. While not ideal, I suppose it lessens the risk since that guy doesn't always get a shot away. If he does take a shot, that point shot will be less risk than that cross pass opportunity.

great video! I am trying to be less shy with my stick. I'm shy due to really not knowing correct stance. My stance has been corrected but I am looking for that braveness with the stick.

In pee wee, I realized that I could cut passes, and that stuck with me. As well, attending Johnny Bower school, poke checking was reinforced. Skills that I take with me, to this day. Great video!

It is amazing to me how many times I see goalies flat on the goal line permitting a blue crease pass to the back door and then try to make a miraculous save. The pass would have been simple to cut… It is amazing how many goalies are so in love with backdoor saves, when a huge junk could have been prevented.

Outstanding video Keek's. This year, we/I have really tried hard to not use the "work hard" statement with Denny. We just let him do his thing. He actually surprises us, with "I'm going for a run/bike ride/hill sprints" statement. That learning through osmosis is real, we have a Junior A prospect that lives down the road, and they are talking about building an ODR this winter.
