I panned a creek a few times in the South Mountain area of North Carolina. Lots of black sand, but what's worse is when you get toward the end you are left with a heavy yellow sand. It's called Monazite, and it's almost impossible to separate the gold from it. It contains REEs so it has some value as well.

It was a huge storm in Dahlonega in 2021 they called it the hundred year storm into trees down the creeks and even wiped out some bridges. It was severe and it wiped away a lot of the rocks but left a lot of more ancient rocks underneath.

My family lives in Dahlonega and I visit a lot. Love the creeks. I look for Rhodium and platinum more so than gold. However Dahlonega gold is some of the purest gold in the world and has a bit more yellow color due to the purity. I like to use a magnet once I get to the black sand. It’s time consuming though

I had a gram of my Dahlonega melted and assayed for fun. It was flour gold so not 100 percent clean. had a little lead and iron contaminants but was still 22k with 1% Rhodium and like 2% Silver.

Great Job, I have been watching all your videos and the only thing that I say is that yeah running slower produces more of the fines that might have washed out. I am thinking about it and if you run your adventure sluice and place a catch pan at the end to slow wash it then you might be able to run just a little bit faster with the sluice. Then after every run pull the pan and pan it to see if any fines went out the end or just dump it in a bucket for final clean up at home. The spot that I have been going to has yielded lots of small garnets and black sand. I haven't done a slow clean up yet, just dump it in my bucket till I get a whole bucket then I will rework it to see what comes out of it. Happy hunting.

We have similar black sands in CO outside of Denver. And lots of fine micro gold. I have to clean out my GH mini stream sluice every 30 minutes or it gets too packed with black sands! I just bought a Miller Table to help process and clean my cons as it took me a good 5 hours to separate the gold from the black sands after a 2 hour highbanker run!

It’s amazing how small gold can be, isn’t it? Hey, it’s great to see you bringing in the bigger amounts of gold, compared to when you first started. I had a record amount over this last weekend, in Blue Ridge. I can’t even believe the difference compared to my previous trips. Take care, and thanks for sharing! P.s. I figured out a good way to get that “last bit of iron sands” separated from the gold. Maybe I’ll make a video and share it on my channel. Later!

You can pan fast down to the black sands, then toss that in a concentrates bucket and take it home. You alluded to the problem - coarse black sands displaces the gold, making it difficult to pan. The solution is classification! Take your dried concentrates and classify them out into as many increments you can 20/30/50/70/100/200 fractions is what I use. Remove and save the magnetics. Pan out the magnetic and non-magnetic fractions. Viola! Easy to separate gold and black sand when they are the same size. Don’t pan slowly though, unless you are worried about losing gold out your pan but your technique looks sound so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

The restrictions on sluices and dredges where you are make it hard to deal with but not impossible a good neodymium magnet can help sift through and make it less of a hassle but your best bet looks to be collect what you can and sluice it at home. there are some excellent devices out there if you wanna build them or spend the money on them.

Then over around twiggs co you have the kaolin clay that's snow white, they mine it in huge open pits and it looks like huge white hole and when they fill with water it looks like giant blue swimming pools. You know theres some viens feeding those rivers that havent been discoverd yet. There are so many little creeks up there coming out of the mountain that look like perfect places to find those veins . To my knowledge alot if not most of the gold originally found in dahlonega was picked off the bottom of the river. I know they invented submersible vehicle that allowed two men to work and breathe on the bottom of the river because there was so much gold just sitting there. There are only two mines uo there still running and neither is on the river . Also to my limited knowledge no veins hsve been found feeding the creeks and rivers . So they are still there.
