Фильм және анимация

#timberframe #bushcraft #outdoorskills #greatsmokymountains
This video is about the construction of a homestead, bushcraft basecamp, and timber frame cabin being built using both traditional and modern hand tools to tool the mortise and tenon for the post and beam, including a Norwood sawmill in action from trees harvested off the property, lots of campfire cooking, hiking and outdoor skills all in the Great Smoky Mountains. This is a compilation of short clips from all videos of the year 2019.

Just a quick bit of advice from a Rigger to help out... You'll find it easier to just use one sling with a bite around the middle of it. Sooooo much easier to handle up in the air, and then when you're done there's only one sling to unhook instead of two. It'll move around a bit more when you're transporting it but just have some throw a tag line on it to help. it'll save you a stack of time

Really. Can you imagine? It is the best. Peace and good times. No planes, trains or automobiles. Only crickets and frogs harmonizing under a full moon just above a high ridge in the distance and an owl in a nearby tree.

It's nice to see the Forest of that part of the Smokies, As a young man in the Boy Scouts we would travel to that area and set up camp for 2 weeks and live the good life. It's sad now to see people coming in from every where to gouge and strip the beauty from the land , let alone scare off the Deer and Bears due to over crowding of the space. When the wildfires come , maybe that will be the only salvation left for the Wilderness. At least it will put a stop to the culture of building a slum in the woods. God Help the Great Smoky Mountains.

We did the same thing many years. I can remember when Gatlinburg wasn’t hardly anything and Pigeon Forge as well. Now there are cabins everywhere. I am thankful that the family had several hundred acres that they lived on so I can do the same.

I sure do hope that because of bears on your property that you are packing a deterrent to ward them off lol. So impressed with your build and you are definitely a wood craftsman as well as having great vision. Love the fact that you have your son and daughter involved as well. Way in the future you will all be able to watch these videos and show your grandchildren (your legacy) how this cabin was built with a lot of love. God bless.

What draws men to the woods and to the past of our grandfathers The old ways and an easier life I to have built a my dream in the mountains of Graysville Tennessee And seems I can’t get enough of the outdoors All other hobbies and things I once wanted put on the side burner to make my mark in the woods Is something coming that we don’t understand Maybe we are preparing for older age and a laid back way of living Or maybe the Lord just wants real mean to enjoy his creations and pulls us to things that we can’t explain Like a warm fire on a chilly morning drinking a hot cup of coffee There just ain’t nothing like being one with nature away from the hustle and bustle of today’s fast pace I enjoyed your video and hope to see more like it

Good idea on sealing the support beams of your cabin with fire. It will make them rot, water, fire, and insect resistant. You can do the same thing with siding, and decks. The Japanese have a similar way of sealing their wood and creating a maintenance-free surface that lasts a long time. Great video, and editing. I look forward to following you on KZread.

I’m understanding the burning to keep the bugs out of your beams but you put your upright beams directly on your concrete footing. This will not only cause them to rot but the termites will have themselves a perfect home. It may be an impossible task but if you could jack them up a put a piece of rubber roofing under each beam everywhere they make contact with the concrete you can prevent the moisture from entering the wood. As far as the termites go I don’t know what the best treatment is nowadays. I’m enjoying your story and thanks for all you do.

Smoky Mountain Outpost That’s great and it should to the trick. Any masonry in contact with the ground pulls moisture from the ground and any wood that touches the masonry has to be treated for ground contact or a waterproof barrier has to be placed in between. I have always used rubber roofing or tire inner tubes or tires in some cases. I’m glad you’re going to jack up your posts and the aluminum plates should work great. We share a common interest in the outdoors and in building. I also watch all the people you talked about that are on KZread especially Shawn James. Also I’m in the same category as many of your commentors my health is bad along with being too old to overcome it I enjoy watching others like you fulfilling their dream cabin in the woods. Looking forward to seeing your cabin competition and all of your other projects.

That is actually a great idea. I think once people found out, it would go like gang busters. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge “tourist lay over” in the Great Smoky Mountain area here has 14,000,000 visitors now per year. They flock into this area just to stay in a cabin “and” visit the mountains. Cabins are a lure for many folks.

When you're using that hand saw have a bar a paraffin and wipe both sides of the blade with paraffin it'll cut a lot faster. These are these are all things that I learned from Carpenters.

I enter a world few have known, as I enter this world, I pause for a moment and soak up the beauty that is before me. In there I replenish my spirit for this place heals me like no-other……………….I am humble by this place as I walk within her. Feeling the presents of life all around me, as I hear wind singing through the tops of the guardians. My elemental friends come out to say hi, I bow at their present for they are the keepers of the forest. Nature is the Key to Life! Lane Wallace

Lol, probably would have if it had belonged to me. We did have issues with that old piece though. It was a gear drive housing that went on the PTO and could not hardly keep it from swiveling with the drive going. Had to keep the RPM slow and hope it didn’t break the chain holding it in place. Anyway the job got done and it didn’t cost anything except about 6 gallon of hydrologic fluid since the rings leaked.

You sure do a lot walking, setting up camp just to eat. It’s takes a lot of time to move the camera to make a short video. I saw you walking away but I never saw you come back for the camera. If you don’t have you need some trail camera’s to see what goes on when you’re not around. You mentioned building an outside kitchen with an oven, My Self Reliance’s channel has some good videos on that. The old homestead you filmed, just think how hard it was to build. They didn’t have any power tools, just men and horses. Stay safe

I realize you were watching a compilation of 2019. Yes there was some cooking, lol, we all eat. And, some don’t like it and some do. If you watch the videos you’ll find I don’t do it that often. But, I can’t please everyone at the same time. So, there will be videos with some and others without. I’m doing what I can so that all will be happy. Thank you for the input...
