I spent 13 years in the job. I left in 2002 and started my own company it’s the best thing I ever done. My reason for leaving was red tape & getting nowhere. I was sick of the court system the crims always winning and the shit pay

one thing I didnt hear on this podcast (havent finished yet) that is of relevance is that police learn and apply legislation. So many jobs from compliance, privacy and other government bodies like building commissions, transport, taxation, government regulators etc are all about giving advice on the interpretation of legislation. Fantastic way to get into an office 9-5 job that pays decent

I can honestly say the police at LAC Wollongong, were pretty good to me when i slowly over several years became mentally unwell.i would go to the station with many strange conspiracies, snd thought disordered, hearing voices. They could have been aggressive and rude, but generally they were understanding, and helpful .i appreciate their professional way they treat me, and couldn't blame them if i was a burden to them, on top of their other duties...i had some insight to unwell i was but its a blur..now im well, housed and generally much happier v, thanks

Management still do SFA about officer mental health and the belters still can’t understand why they have such a high rate of troops leaving. Time management and all rank and file was held accountable for gross negligence and breach of Work Health and Safety

Hello Danny and Anthony, Would like to start by saying this, I love how open and honest you both are, totally understandable that you guys still cannot mention names but if I may I would like to talk a bit about my experience, and I am NOT a police officer neither was I ever in NSWPF. I am actually a Bachelor of Policing graduate who had every intention in my life to be a police officer. I had friends who are already cops, I had classmates who are cops, I even have one who works at my local police station as well. But here is when my love of policing severely died, and it was because one of my teacher who is a Chief Inspector (CI) (horrible man I came to find out later on) who was obviously crying and not in the right mental space to teach. Upon asking if he was okay (because I am the type of person who cares about strangers) he told me to go away and he will open up when he was ready. This CI started the class by showing us that he has lost an officer within the SGT rank to the black dog as the police call it. This officer was apparently muchly loved, cared about and so much was going on but unfortunately his mental health got the best of him and ever since that talk I have had a light bulb moment and started to do my own research into NSWPF and AFP (since AFP also works in every state). I came to the conclusion that the NSWPF due to the lack of education some police officers have and lack of understanding and for some they've been programmed/conditioned at such a young age to be closed minded idiots that it eventually takes a toll on the Police Culture as a whole. I read and had chats with cops and ex cops about the culture and it was depressing.. I read articles about senior officers sleeping with a young female officer who was married to a cop just so she can climb ranks but to her unfortunate loss, once they had their fun they transferred her to another station. There was other cops I learned from where senior officers would say "I simply do not care if you die or you are lost because we can always replace you by someone else". I also heard on a radio station I think it was 96.9 or one of the other ones where a Superintendent was disregarding a young officers mental health because of the things they witnessed and saw. I learnt about Ashley and so much officers who suicided. Majority of my teachers at UNI have been cops and ex cops and for the most part the ex cops all shared 1 thing in common which was the culture was horrible, the treatment was shit from senior officers and worst of all they never got positive acknowledgement it was always negative. To me I feel for NSWPF who leave I have had a few mates leave and for a lot of them they spiral into depression because NSWPF re-conditions students into a certain mentality to become police. When you take what that away, like you mentioned their identity and who they are they then go into limbo and that's when suicide and depression comes in. The issue is with NSWPF is that they lack well educated officers, cops come with biases, stigmas and so much because of the desensitization they experience during their job. As an 18 Year old when I started my Police degree I was excited to get education to back up my policing job, I wanted to have an open mind and the whole point of "Police" is to help and protect and be there for others but in reality a lot of failed cops give it a horrible and bad name and social media then portrays cops are these evil minions other there to hurt everyone, as mentioned we are back again with the biases and stigmas and Police are humans, yes they wear a badge and have a gun but there humans like all of us, they are not perfect. As a student I remember I started a petition which I advertised the living heck about regarding police suicide rates. I have linked it below if you would like to read. Love what you both are doing and keep up the awesome work and for any cop on here that is having suicidal thoughts just know you ain't alone and that you're truly valued. Praying for those cops who are struggling and hurting. The troops who do so much and do not get acknowledged or thanks for their hard work. www.change.org/p/scott-morrison-savingourheros?recruiter=930734273&

My mate is an ex-police officer for 4 years and was part of Wetherill Park LAC and Cabramatta LAC. He quit the force after 4 years, he then started working for armaguard for 2 years, got bored of that, then decided to start his own security consultancy business.
