S2 E1 “The Hollow Mountain” (Ben Cruachan, Stob Daimh)

In Series 2 premiere ‘The Hollow Mountain’, we head to Loch Awe in Argyll to climb the spectacular Ben Cruachan and traverse the famous horseshoe ridge to its neighbouring Munro Stob Daimh. Along the way, we’ll see how Ben Cruachan has been written about throughout history, explore the hidden feat of engineering that lies under the mountain and find out how Robert the Bruce took revenge -and Argyll - at the fateful Battle of the Pass of Brander.

Really great stuff! Thank you for your efforts, it makes these walks more enjoyable for novice solo hikers like me. I also took note of all safety pointers you gave. Thanks again 👏🏻

Wow great video. This just popped up today on my feed. I stay in Oban and look at Cruachan every day, it's a peak that says" I'm home" thank you for your very detailed info, and history. I've not been to the top of this seemingly intimidating top with its boulder covered peak. I know people take their dogs up but l would be concerned for mine with her wee legs. What awesome views, definitely worth the effort. I shall be checking out more of you videos. Thanks again Alioban

Super video, great details of route and background information. Just started watching the videos tonight, great escapism from the lockdown blues! I was on Cruachan during Whitsun week 1987, the best weeks hillwalking I've had, superb weather on a great mountain. Looking forward to watching the rest and forthcoming episodes, cheers!

Good to see you back again with new series. I love the history lessons and you always do a Vlog like no one else on the Munros. Beware the path to Drochaid Ghlas , I went down it , came out of clouds realised my mistake and then compounded my mistake by trying to cut across the hillside to the tunnel. Ended up climbing a scree gully to the tunnel and having to beat a retreat in failing light straight down to the damn. Audible books distracting me once again.

Cruachan is the highest point in Argyll. Nice video. Just a couple of pronunciations for you. The ‘ive’ in Etive is pronounced as in the word ‘give. Breadalbane: with the emphasis on the middle syllable ‘al’ which is pronounced as in the word ‘all’.

Thanks for watching! Actually Bidean nam Bian is the highest point in Argyll. :) Yeah, I’ve since adopted the hard ‘a’ in Breadalbane and the Ey-tive pronunciation!

@@UtopiaPlanitiaStudios Bidean nam Bian used to be in the old county of Argyll but for the last 50 years it has been within the boundary of Lochaber district in the Highland Council area. That is why Cruachan is the highest point in Argyll.
