S1E6 Never Talk About TURMERIC on Social Media | English | Dr Abby Philips
Ғылым және технология
Is turmeric useful as a preventive or treatment option for any disease condition?
It is not. But when I talk about facts that point towards the uselessness of turmeric on social media, the angry response is overwhelming!
People have a lot of 'good' health experiences using turmeric for various disease conditions, but they remain only psychological experiences and never evidence of the usefulness of turmeric.
In this video, I discuss why the most researched spice "turmeric" studies are not so spicy and are of poor quality. All benefits of turmeric that people speak about or bring as a response in a discussion are lab/cell/tissue/small animal-based and none conclusive in humans.
Here are some links that substantiate my talk:

Abby Phillip;I am not using Dr. Suffix with his name because there will be shame by using dr with his name. He is the culprit who misguide people my saying anti about ayurved because he doesn't know his sciences well. He thinks he will defame ayurved and will destroy it, but he don't know so many grt evils came and go and tries to defame ayurved but they couldn't destroy a hair of ayurved. So i think he is the present (Bakhtiyar Khilji) who tries to destroy ayurved. 😊

Thank you so much for your videos. I have tried in the past to share videos regarding herbs and homeopathy and other pseudoscience etc and often it gets dismissed as "western propaganda". I am glad to have found your channel because surely they cannot use that as a cop-out now!
Super good. The clarity and understanding with which you speak is really awesome. Keep the good work going.

Very informative video Doc. Thank you for sharing your insights.
Gems of info, every point is exceptional with evidence. I really appreciate your efforts and sincerity sir. Scientific & clinical research is enough to believe. Enlighten us with your wisdom. Would love to hear your valuable thoughts on Protein/Creatine supplements as it’s a must choice for Gym goers. Thanks!❤
Thanks for the video Doc hope to see you more active here also 😉 keep up the good work 👍 between CPU looks lit 🔥
Thanks very much Doc. Research findings end up in just publishing in journals. Reaching out to consumers and public with the findings is not happening.
You are a silver lining in the Indian medical science!!! Thanks Doc. Keep growing and n u've my ultra support. One of the reason people started believing these pseudoscience medical things is because they got a bad experience from medical doctors who were just paper doctors and not the ones with good knowledge and practice because of high corruption in private medical colleges.

I agree with the corruption part. It's sad that everyone protests about everything else, but nobody questions their state and the central governments for reducing the corruption in our healthcare system. Basic healthcare based on modern medicine should be affordable and accessible for all Indians.

I think at least one doctor from every field, from every state should make videos like this in their own language.
Thanks doc, this was much needed. And on a side note,I loved ur background in the video
"It is the responsibility of scientists never to suppress knowledge, no matter how awkward that knowledge is, no matter how it may bother those in power; we are not smart enough to decide which pieces of knowledge are permissible and which are not."- Carl sagan
Doc, Keep enlightening us♥️
Hi doctor! I have 2 questions and will really appreciate if i get a reply 1. Does fresh raw turmeric juice has any benefit? In my state (assam), traditionally fresh turmeric juice mixed with honey or milk for muscle pain and fresh turmeric juice mixed with ginger and pepper for cold etc are often used. Doses are generally in the range of 1 to 2 tbs twice daily. Is the juice of turmeric and powder the same? 2. In Assam we have a tradition of having some form of a dish which will have cooking soda or a liquid alkaline derived from banana peel ash. Usually these dishes are made of green papaya or cucumber along with fish head and a lot of soda or alkaline water in it. Nothing else are added in the dish other than ginger and salt for taste. Tradition says it cleanses the gut and since we are primarily non vegetarians, we must have this side dish once a week. While green papaya, cucumber and fish are fine, does consuming soda or the alkaline water do any good or it might harm in the long run? Thanks
11:00 I think this was for me as I was the one who posted about the systematic review related to pain alleviation. Thanks for the vid doc esp in English. But I have to defend myself as I saw many doctors claim it as helpful, one famously being Dr Brad Stanfield. But now he has come out with a video where he made the correction and has stopped using it (two months ago). please make a video on Ginko Biloba ik its not an Indian plant but so many people use it
Your work is highly appreciable, a lot preconceived notions in the name of culture, religion, in our society. Good job 👏🏻 keep it up
You're brilliant! Thanks for using your intellect to educate!
For people who don't know about trials, every disease or search for a cause starts with a hypothesis. The study starts with describing the details about the disease. Followed by Randomized controlled trials which is the studies done on patients. When a lot of such studies are conducted, they can be analysed by Researchers to make a "Systematic Review" and "Metanalysis" What sir is saying is absolutely true only because Metanalysis is the study that has been guiding science since ages. Research has come this far because of science. Ofcourse the ancient roots are important, but when science proves something it has to be unbiased and accepted just as we accept other things. This concept sir is saying is absolutely Novel. This approach is new. I think it needs to be supported. Nobody is saying that Indian ancient medicine doesn't have it's benefits. But we also need to trust our doctors and Researchers with the same. P.S.: Anyone abusing him should watch the video full and know that he isn't against turmeric if it is useful. Do not judge by the start of the video.
Very enlightening, thanks doc!!
Sir I do have doubt my father has a long history of portal hypertension he is diagnosed with ehpvo.. but now he is diagnosed with decompensated liver cirhhosis we don't know what caused him liver cirhhosis.. he has done a scanning 2years before in that scanning liver is normal but after 2years he has diagnosed with cirrhosis what caused this sudden change my father do not drink alcohol he was never an overweight person also.. does ehpvo lead to cirrhosis... He takes ciplar la 40 medicine so many years..
Thank you Doctor sahab.I could never take it though my wife has been a regular turmeric guy.I saw no change, for good or bad,in her health condition except that her temperament became a bit unhealthy.
Are these findings discussed by you in a journal somewhere ?
And a lot of people, especially down south, apply turmeric as an antiseptic or cosmetic ointment or application, as a skin ointment... Highlight that part too.
Hi, Could you also elaborate on if applying turmeric on skin as scrub or applying it on wounds or applying to relieve pain is any helpful. Your video was completely on turmeric ingestion, but generally there are way more usage of turmeric hailed in India.

Is it possible sir that tumeric could have a very specific medical use? Not common cold etc, but some not well researched diseases in which certain compound mixtures of tumeric help the patient in some xyz manner?

Sir what about the turmeric that we consume with curries is it harmful or it is specifically the turmeric supplements that are doing the damage?

Dear Doctor, Very much informative delving into research in micro level. I appreciate your bravery to argue with pseudo doctors prescribing herbals especially turmeric.
If you find the time, please research ashwagandha, ginseng and musli and its supplements (capsules, powders and tablets) and the harmful effects (if any) of the same on liver, stomach lining, gut lining and overall health

If anybody is having trouble understanding his accent he is not saying kokomin😂 he's saying CURCUMIN which is the main component in the turmeric that is the Healer and most people don't understand that you need fresh cracked black pepper and usually a good healthy fat like raw sesame oil or milk or ghee to get the curcumin into your body and the pepper does make all the difference because pepper will increase the bioavailability of the curcumin by at least a thousand times

@@akshaymuthuvana7740 Only paper worth it's value says turmeric has poor bio availablity. And links on turmeric causing liver issue has 2 or 3 case study not large enough sample to reach any definitive conclusion. I can also give you hundreds of example where milk can cause severe problems to particular person doesn't mean I can conclude milk is bad for humans. That's why control group and blind studies are needed (i.e. to do comparative analysis)
