Finally the Van Build Season 1 is complete! I take you through a run down of the completed van build, and breakdown all the costs involved throughout this entire project.
You get to see the completed kitchen, bathroom, toilet, shower, cabinetry, electrical system, couch/bed, gadgets, outdoor BBQ area and solar system.
I designed and built this van to be as much off the grid as possible. Electrically it goes great off the grid, with 580W of solar and a 200Ah lithium ion battery I never have to plug into mains (but I do have the option if I want).
No more rent, no mortgage, the only bills for living in a van is food, fuel and pre-paid mobile credit. I pick up Wi-Fi hotspots around Australia using Telstra Air.
This is the finale of Season 1 which I covered in great depth how I actually built the van. I am creating Season 2 which will go into depth about how each component of the van actually operates and functions in day to day vanlife.
Be sure to visit my website where I have written a lot of information corresponding to each van build episode, with links to products as well.

By far the most complete and detailed custom built I have seen. Congratulations. I believe I would make my fan like that, with the exception of the closet opposite the bed; would have just a couch on that side and a table in between, because it seems cramped otherwise, to me at least, and limits a lot the number of people who can hang out in the van. Of course, if you need the space for storage, you have to make a closet.

@@JaznLori It really is a great build you should be proud you aussies are so lucky with all that sun solar and space out there. I'm about 1/4 way through my build in the UK. I noticed no garage as such on your build are you cool with that still? I guess it comes down to what you use your van for, not sure what outdoor activity I will be doing mostly in mine, my surfboard certainly ain't that small though lol unfortunately.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for your effort in producing this video series. I did S1 1-15 today, really helped to get an idea of how all of this will sit together. Am working on my layout design and that's getting close to finished, it's quite different to yours but so many things can really go straight across and that information is a big help. I'll make sure to add my build to my channel when I've got something useful to add. Looking forward to watching over Series 2, thanks so much once again...!

Superb., thanks so much for dedicating so much time to share your experience with your van, I'm really looking forward to season 2, as of right now, I have my van, a VW Crafter Hightop, LWB, very similar to yours. I've have started buying things for the electrical system I went for 2 fantastic fans in my build, these were expensive, and import duty from the US wasn't cheap either, but hopefully worth it. I really want a shower, and toilet like you have, so will be looking forward to that being covered in more detail. Also looking into, researching solar, and you have given me some great ideas there also.

Hey Jaz, Great respect from Canada! I enjoyed season 1 , I was inspired to do the same thing myself. When I asked my wife, she was sceptical. I ended up buying a 2017 F150 3.5l ecoboost and 18' trailer ($67k for truck and $30k for trailer). No complaints on my setup but won't take no guff about price. Fantastic presentation! Apreciation from Canada. Enjoy the fruits of your labour.

That's awesome, you've really thought of everything including a safe. And gas stove is great, most ppl install electric. One of the best designs I've seen for this size. Personally I probably would prefer more space opposite the couch/bed rather than have that storage. But overall you've done a fantastic job!

I saw the first video here on KZread by pure chance and then enjoyed the whole series in binge watching. That you are a very good craftsman with attention to detail and quality awareness is out of question. But you are also really talented at presenting your project. It's fun listening to you and the filming and editing are also great. As an architect I can see how good your preliminary planning was, but also the point at which this planning was completed and handicrafts began. That is probably normal with such a project, since one determines only after completion, what functions or where one can still improve something. This will certainly increase during the trip. The only style criticism, which is rather a matter of taste, is the somewhat wild jumble of different wood types and colours with an otherwise rather clean look. This is of course a design question and I understand that many things you used as a finished product were only available in this way. Basically it is always good to limit the colours and surface structures of such small rooms. I would have used for example anthracite felt for the passage to the driver's cabin instead of the brown fabric that your mother sewed for you. And what you probably also did not have in view, is the building-biological side, as for example with the use of particle boards, laminates, spray adhesives etc. which evaporate and are inhaled in the small room naturally properly. It is also not unproblematic to sleep directly on the power sources and the electrical system. I know that in your twenties you deal with it rather carelessly, because you still think you are invulnerable, but maybe you are thinking about this side of planning with your next project? What struck me: In terms of building physics it would not have been absolutely necessary to give the bathroom a hermetic door of all things, a waterproof curtain would have been completely sufficient so that the room gets air and can dry off quickly, because in principle you do not need more than a splash guard for showering. And with such a fully sealed aquarium you have to work with chemicals again, because otherwise the bacteria will grow like in the Petri dish. Thank you very much for the great time with you. I am already looking forward to your experiences in Season II.

Wow thank you eternal love bliss I always appreciate a lengthy comment! All these factors and things yes, I was learning through out the entire build process, and yes some things are more practical than others, some things I could do different etc. So much was learned during this build and I am still learning even when living in it and travelling. If I didnt another build I would know so much more from the beggining and could do it all even better, I guess thats where age and life exprerience come into it from doing and learning. All in all I'm super happy with the result and how everything works :) Thanks for commenting and supporting the build by watching. All the best mate!
