S1E1: Equilateral House: House Tour of the Award-winning Home by Jorge Yulo

The Equilateral House designed by Architect Jorge Yulo of JYAA was designed off the 90 degree grid. It features jutting volumes, meticulous details and an oculus that allows sun and rain in. Yulo wanted the clients to feel a sense of discovery every day.

Incredibly beautiful house. Yulo calls it the Equilateral House, for which he received an Iconic Award, Best of the Best in Architecture, residential category, from the German Design Council last October 5, 2022, in Munich. Th e house is also shortlisted in the World Architecture Festival’s Building of the Year competition, taking place in Lisbon November 30 to December 2. Yulo will be competing first in the Built House & Villa category against a dozen or so finalists. If he wins the category, he will then compete against winners of all the other Built categories for the Building of the Year award. Paolo Periquet, great job on this series. Bravo! Gino Cariño, good to see you! You look well.

I am a fan of Design Seed, Never Too Small but finally, a concept or content for Filipino viewers is here in the Philippines. Now, my frustrations and regrets are growing not taking architecture and seeing this beautiful design and aesthetics in a home. Kudos to the architect and designer of these beautiful homes in the country.

I see from the comments that this is a very respected architect. I admire the attention to craft, materially, light and site. I think allowing the structural tectonic of the building to speak more directly to the interior craft-based tectonic would allow the ideas to have a bit more breathing space while allowing the exterior to transcend a more familiar tectonic.

Where does the rain go? I know Philippine rain can go from a light drizzle to gushing. Does it just slash everywhere in the indoor living area below?

  • @UncommonPH

It is! There is a catch basin directly below. So when it rains, a circular wet spot forms, but contained to that area and drains quickly. Remarkable. Then again, Jorge Yulo is brilliant so all that was planned. He’s in Episode 6 because of requests. You might want to catch it. Thank you for watching and your comment. Happy you’re here.
