Had a hard time finding a decent gt in reasonable condition so I went with a nice black v6 with low miles (about 90k miles)instead. Obviously not as fun as a GT but for a first car (that I bought) its fast enough and looks a drives good for a daily. I've already made back the money I bought it for and put some mods on it, nothing crazy. It's a very simple, humbling little car that I love to gush about. One day whenever I do get a newer GT, I'll never forget the little v6 that got me started.

I have to agree with the other comments, easy to find, yes. Easy to find in great shape? No. These cars are now 11-15 years old, they’ve seen some life. I decided I wanted one because I always love this body style. It took me about a year to find the one I bought a few years back. It was originally bought by a gentleman in his 60’s new. It was his 4th car and not his daily driver. Car had 19k miles and had never been driven in the rain or even commute traffic. Was driven, washed and waxed, and then parked in the garage under a cover. The garage where it and the other cars were parked was immaculate. It’s service history was impeccable and when I had a mechanic look at it he told me the car looked as new underneath as it did on top. This came at a price. I paid $16k, which means I probably overpaid a bit but I didn’t mind. My criteria was a black or blue 07-09 GTCS manual with under 30k miles in perfect (read not one ding anywhere) shape. After a year I found the black one I have now. I kept watching out for them after to see how long it would have taken to find another if I passed this one up and it took me a year and a half to find another and it met every criteria except the color. They wanted just as much for it so Maybe the pricing was okay. Great cars.

Maybe it's just the area I live... I got mine in Fall for a bargain, it didn't take much effort to find it and it was in 4/5 condition with extensive maintenance records, it also had some tasteful upgrades and wasn't high mileage. I've been checking now and then at what's out there over the past couple years and the majority of what I see of S197's in my area are well kept. The ones that aren't in great shape have a lower price to match were the difference often nearly makes up for it anyway. Of course I'm sure the odd one is probably a ripoff. But people like me don't want a 5/5. We want a 3.5-4/5 for less money because it is going to get driven HARD, new rock chips appear every month and sometimes parked in areas were it could get scuffed by pedestrians, possibly bumped by car doors and driven rain or shine because it is my daily driver. Of course I will touch up the rock chips and maintain the appearance and most importantly it is operating at full potential. But for people driving immaculate cars, it just makes it all the more painful for them when there is a rock chip or scuff (even though I will admit I'm still a little jealous haha). It literally ruins their day when those little mishaps happen. But for me, it's not that big of a deal and I can get on with my day!

1/2 of the V8 mustangs are bagged hard. 1/2 are in nice shape, likely owned by older drivers that just want a nostalgic cruise; it just takes a little discernment to get a nice one. you also need to come to grips that if it's really cheap it's probably thrashed, so paying a little bit more should be in your budget. my folks just got a 2020 GT; I'll definitely put an offer in when they get tired of it. I'm the only one that's redlined it and that was on the test drive. they'll rarely have it over 4000rpm, it'll be meticulously maintained, have low miles, and i take care of paint finishes on all their vehicles; so it'll be minty.

not at all! I have personally owned a 06 Vista blue mustang v6. the GT is definitely a major step up. my biggest issue with the v6 were electrical problems due to water getting inside the cabin during storms. it was a major issue for these models. from what I have heard your best bet for this generation is 07 to 09 GT.

Just want to clarify for you guys who don't believe the dyno numbers; There are two main types of dyno's: the "DynoJet" and the "Mustang Dyno". "Mustang Dynos" put out numbers 12% lower than "DynoJets" because they put the car under load like it's physically driving in real world conditions. The most common dyno type is the DynoJet. DynoJet numbers for my car are: 347WHP/383.5WTQ, translated to Mustang Dyno numbers that is: 310WHP, 342.5WTQ. There is a lot of variables and confusion between people when converting those numbers to crank horsepower. Most people say there is a 15% power loss (on manual transmission cars) by the time the power gets to the wheels, and people seem to be converting by 15% on both dyno types, which obviously means some of them are wrong because there is a 12% difference between the two dyno types. All I can guarantee is that my Mustang is making between 356.5bhp, 394btq and 399bhp 441btq for Crank Horsepower. I hope this clears up some of the confusion from some of my viewers who are not familiar with one of these dyno types. In the end the numbers do not really matter, it's how much you enjoy your car that really matters. I can guarantee that a 130hp Miata (which I also own) is just as much fun as anything, it's all about who is behind the wheel!

Interesting, I've heard a variety of opinions. For me, the worst part about the 99-04 in comparison is not the engine, but those Mustangs feel numb and the shifter feels terrible. Not even the best aftermarket shifter can make it feel decent.
