Type R is well over 300lbs lighter and to give you an idea of how short the DC2's gearing is. The Type R's 4th and 5th gear is about the same as the Silvia's 3rd and 4th. This is why torque does not matter if you have enough proper gearing, the transmission creates as much torque as it's geared down for at the cost of revs. What combines torque and revs? Ah yes, Horsepower.

+EK9GraphicDesign I agree with you. I'm an S14 owner, and I remember how limited the power band is when stock. Have been in many ITR's and raced many, and they are deceptively quick with those close gear ratios. Not at all surprised this would happen.
