S1 - Ep 488 - De Doorns, Western Cape!

We had an incredible time exploring the charming village of De Doorns. The drive to reach this town was breathtaking, surrounded by stunning mountains and picturesque scenery. As we drove through De Doorns, it was evident that the village is nestled in the heart of grape country, with many properties showcasing beautiful ornamental grapes and grapevines. One of the highlights was discovering the old Dutch Reformed Church, which has now been repurposed as a warehouse. Learning about its fascinating history was truly astonishing. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time exploring De Doorns and the surrounding area. #DustBugs #dustbugstravel #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #westerncape #dedoorns #hexrivervalley

When Curtis said they were table grapes, i kept thinking of the trays of muscatel grapes we bought from the roadside sellers in Cape Town back in the 1960's🍇. They were so lekker en soet. A shame they never let you film inside the NG Kerk. Great drone shots. I am amazed at how many of those small towns have so many trees planted down the streets🌳🌴. Just gives a town such a green peaceful vibe not to forget the shade in summer. Could Sonia not have bought a couple of chicken and mayo toasted sandwiches at the Engen ?🥪 A nee a magtie !! 😄Those burgers looked a bietjie droog 🍔 No sign of any Appletiser or Grapetiser.

The lady in the church office had quite a bad flu and was already kind enough to open up for us and to show us the old book with pics of the first church. We were OK not having seen the inside, the beautiful brickwork and detailed woodwork were special enough. 💒 You judged those cheeseburgers by their covers, they were actually very good! 😁🍔 I'd take them above chicken-and-mayo sarmies any day of the week! And there are always liquid refreshments on board, non-alcoholic of course at this time of day.

De Doorns....ja normally we just fly past on our way up north..or back home. Thanx for taking us in.....all these years I have only been into De Doorns twice. But when someone mentions De Doorns the first thing that comes into mind is the accidents there on the N1....it seems to occur more there than at any other place. Be safe out there.

Hi guys a beautiful valley and as you said grapes grapes and more grapes 🍇 the town is clean and tidy loved the history of the church and the old photos. The history goes back to early 1700s blows my mind. The old electric sign seems to me a good idea for today to supply the town locally with all this load shedding!!! .the brick built church had a impressive entrants with the grapes carvings on top of the door. Cute little Anglecan church. DE Doorens is definitely thriving with the grapes business next time I buy some at the store I'll be reminded of this lovely place thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one

@dawnbarnes1361 Sonia and I often ask ourselves that very same question. It's incredible how one's life literally flashes by. I think one only realises that fully the older one gets. You made us chuckle because we also compare the age of buildings, bridges and such to our own. 😁 Thanks for coming along to De Doorns.

How amazing! You seem to be following the Anna and Roger favourite places tour!! De Doorns was our first weekend away together. We stayed at Klipheuwel farm. So beautiful, the mountains are splendid and we were well supplied with fruit and home made bread. Exploring the town with you brings back so many memories. Of course, being wine enthusiasts we did some tasting and buying. Over the weekend we had to be careful as there were a lot of drunks around. Unfortunately it's a legacy of the dop system. Don't know if it's still like that. Great that you found the station. Shosholoza Meyl and the odd goods train still run through. Yes, the grape is king 👑 here, but have you tasted how good they are?

The natural beauty in the Hex River Valley is simply beyond imagination! ⛰️ On a previous brief drive through the town, early on a Monday morning, we did notice some after-effects of the liquid grapes on some of the townsfolk.. 🥴 We might not be wine connoisseurs, but we do love ourselves some grapes. I remember the times when we used to buy boxes of grapes from farm stalls on our travels, but it's just not practical with the way we travel now. 🚙🍇

I don't think you're missing any! 😁 We explained in Episode 480 that in the beginning, I was still finding my way with the numbering of our videos, but quite early on they just started following one on the next, etc. There are five unnumbered episodes before Episode 1 which you may not be taking into account, but that's all I can think of. We appreciate you travelling with us, thank you! 🚙
