S1 - Ep 280 - Mossel Bay - From Santos Beach to Post Office Tree and Lighthouse!

We left early in the morning from Strand and made our way to Mossel Bay and our first stop was the stunning Santos Beach. This beach is famous for being the only true north-facing beach in Southern Africa, and it did not disappoint. We were captivated by the crystal clear waters and the soft sandy shores. Next up, we visited the Diaz Museum and saw the iconic Post Office Tree. This tree was used by early explorers as a way to leave messages for other sailors passing through the area from 1501. Inside the museum, we were amazed by the beautiful replica of the Bartholomew Diaz caravel. One of the highlights of our trip was climbing to the top of Cape St Blaize Lighthouse. The panoramic views from the top were simply breathtaking. We could see for miles across the stunning coastline and sparkling blue ocean. Mossel Bay is a town steeped in history and culture, and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring some of its many attractions. Thanks for joining us on our adventure! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #northerncape #mosselbay

I have to commend you both on your wonderful idea to document South Africa post 2020. 280 episode I've watched them all. So far you have taken up more than 5 days of my life. I loved every minute of it. Thank you very much. You make me want to jump in my car and go chase white lines...🛣🚘🛣🚗🛣🚗🛣

We only chase white lines when there are no gravel roads about! As you know, we much prefer the latter! 😁🚙 Thank you for your continued support of our channel, you've been around for a long time now and it's such fun having you on board as we visit and explore this incredibly country that we're so lucky to call our home. We look forward to taking up many more of your days in the future! 🇿🇦😍

We'll certainly visit Oudtshoorn again and explore the town, but the two of us just don't stay in a town for a few days, we move on quickly. We waited a long time to be tourists in our country and we're going to do a good job of it and see as many places as we can in the limited time we have to travel! 🤩🚙 Sonia loves the town very much though and I've made a note of the other areas you mentioned too so that I can see how many of them we can fit into our route when we head that way again!

Yay! Weer oppad! I got to know Mossel Bay quite well when we visited friends who stayed in Kleinbrakrivier. WE also had a wonderful holiday in Hoekwil, which I hope you will visit. There is an awesome Big Tree walk there. Mossel bay station is also a place worth visiting. Years ago, I went with my parents on a Union Steam 5 day train trip, and the train overnighted here in Mossel Bay by the seaside. Of course back then it was just a plain old station, not a fancy restaurant. Wow! That ship is so amazing. And so is the church, lovely architecture. Reminds me of Moerdijk. Cant get enough of the old architectur, so beautiful. Yes there is so much in Mossel Bay, one really needs a good few days there! Thank you for a beautiful tour. Wonder where you are off to next!

It's a stunning part of our coastline and we're so glad we visited! 😍🌊 If we could travel 365 days out of 365 each year, we would still not get to all the places everyone wants us to go to! 😁 We didn't make it to Hoekwil this time, but perhaps another time! I steer clear from walks and hikes nowadays since Sonia is uable to accompany me and I'm not keen to wander too far away from her alone in the vehicle. We don't spend a long time in any town or place we get to visit. We move on quickly to see as much as we can in the time we get to travel. We hope our videos inspire those who do enjoy spending longer times in places, to go and visit them. Thank you for joining us in Mossel Bay, we'll see you at the next stop! 🚙

Apparently Mosselbay has the best weather for a Cape coastal town . Wonderfull to see this place that I last saw as a very young child. Very rich heritage. That ship is amazing and I also thaught thet ere much bigger . Indeed they where brave people. I think the fittings would all have been copper. They can do more to make that look all authentic.

I commend the museum staff for the wonderful display of the Diaz caravel. ⛵ It was a thoroughly enjoyable visit and I was blown away by the setup below deck. To think they arrived in 1488 blows my mind! 🤯 My thought would be if they have to put anything of value in the display, like copper for example, it unfortunately would disappear, so one's imagination has to fill in any blanks while visiting. And there weren't many for me, might I add. Very interesting info about the weather there, Sonia also read something like that! ☀️ I'm glad you were reminded of good times as a child. Hello fellow free rangers. I wrote a comment earlier but it seem to have got lost in transit. I was reminiscing of a time in the late 70s when I was an artisan for Dorbyl Marine Ship yards in Bayhead Slipway in Durban. A few of us were flown to Mossel Bay to put the finishing touches to work we started in Durbs. We stayed at the Hotel Diaz, it was nice for period but even close to what it is now. Management gifted us a visit to the Cango Caves (R600 now but I don't think it was that price back then) We couldn't venture out into the town. Looking at it today "what town were we in" cannot compare. Thankyou Curtis 🤝thank you Sonia 😘 What a town...some more please

I wish I could go back in time and compare the town today to what it must've looked like when you were there. The change must be quite remarkable, but I believe it was always a very beautiful town. It sounds like you were only working and couldn't enjoy the beauty and all the fun Mossel Bay clearly has to offer. We got a little glimpse into that when we recently visited. Some more fantastic places on the way, get ready! 🚙🤩

Hi guys what a surprise blue skies and sea and beach. The drone footage brilliant station and the old carriages. I visited the Post office tree and still have pictures from the 70s lobed the old replicate ship you definitely had to be a tough man to sail from Portugal to India the harbour was great and the old London bus .we'll done Justin getting to the top of the lighthouse the views were stunning war memorial top class and built on rocks. Stone buildings every where as you passed the old goods building I saw my favourite old bakkie the cement was huge and the pesky plover so real .I visited mossel Bay in the 70s this video has brought back so many memories. When we arrived there was no accommodation to be found because they were filming a film called Gold with Richard Harris and Roger Moore who also played James Bond and we ended up in the caravan park 😀 fantastic video cheerio till the next one. Just to say I have a pal of 50 years who lives in Reebok.

Loved the museum. The only time I have been there was about 2015 give or take a year. I remember eating at a restaurant at the harbour, but I do not recognize the harbour on your video. It must have been developed a lot since then with many more restaurants. I remember a potholed drive to the restaurant, very informal, even poor parking arrangements. I think it was winter and it wasn't the best of days. The food was great though. It was a kind of buffet braai kinda thing. Don't remember the name. Anyway, thanks for the show yet again.

Wat Sonia zegt, too many favorites, gelukkig reden jullie langs vele fraaie plekken.

Watching from the cold UK with the family, all your amazing journeys, planning a trip sometime next year to visit South Africa. What type of drone do you use for that amazing "helicopter" type footage?

Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying our videos. Hopefully they're warming you up somewhat too! 😁🚙 Planning is a very exciting and important part of every trip, so I'm sure you're having a fun time with that already! This was my first drone purchase, so I bought an entry-level DJI Mini SE and it does the job for our purposes just fine! Happy watching, happy planning and soon happy travels! ✈️🇿🇦

Sure! 👍🏻 I use the DJI Mini SE. It was my first drone purchase, so I bought an entry-level one and it works perfectly for our purposes. 🚙😁

I'm not sure why your comment is in CAPS. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I have no doubt that there are more, it was not our intention to show every single one. We happened to be in the area of the one we included in our video.

You have lost out on the most interesting place in Mosselbay. The point. People swimming between the rocks. And of course the cable going over the sea.

We're not fussed in the slightest about anything we miss in any place we get to visit. Instead, we're just too grateful for everything we do get to see! 😁🚙
