S04E14 Fitzroy Provincial Park Review

This is our 2nd video in our two week, four park trip to eastern Ontario. In this video we visit Fitzroy Provincial Park on the Ontario/Quebec border just west of Ottawa. The park is on the beautiful Ottawa River which is ideal for paddling on.
We had great weather while at this park and we took full advantage of it. We hiked, biked and paddled our way around the park. We also visited the town of Carp for lunch at Alices' Village Cafe, a wine tasting at Kin Vinyard and a stop at the Carp Farmers Market for the Garlic Festival.
Are next stop will be Bonnechere Provincial Park. Stay tuned....

Hi guys, thanks for the video on Fitzroy. I'm taking the kids up there next week so your video was helpful. I've been to the group sites when I was younger but not the main sites. We have site 281 booked. We normally go to Gatineau Park for our family trips but they are closed this year. Thanks, and great work on the video.

Fitzroy is my family's favourite getaway spot! It may not be the biggest park or have the most interesting features, but it's a great place for families.

I love how you guys have gotten into a consistent video agenda and go through all of the different qualities of parks in their own sections, and I especially love that you mention things to do outside the park! Whenever I go camping I don't always think of exploring what's around it, so thank you! Great video once again, can't wait for the next one.

Great video, as always! I was looking forward to this review since it's a favourite park of mine. Just thought I'd mention that the "boat launch" is not very steep at all and it isn't paved (and there's no dock) so I've seen people completely give up on trying to launch motor boats before. The water height does change throughout the year so there may be times when you can launch motorized boats but most of the year it's only good for canoes, kayaks, etc.

We were just at fitzroy the civic holiday weekend. Kayaking from the campers beach was a little tricky because of all the BIG rocks juuuust under the water surface. Had to go slow until into the deeper bit. Worth mentioning there is a Hydro generating station there (big structure visible from campers beach) need to stay well away from that. We saw the deer a few times as well, right in the campsites.

Hey Dave. Long time no see. You must have been talking with Chuan. Amazing how you guys figured out a connection. We are certainly enjoying retirement. Retired in 2017 and make the most of it with lots of camping trips and making videos. I think I saw you at one of the monthly retirement dinners at the Legion a while back but I didn't approach you as I didn't think you would remember me because we only worked together a short while when I was a rookie about 33 years ago. Next time we see each other at a dinner we'll have to catch up.

As Ottawa residents, Fitzroy is a regular weekend/short camp getaway for us. A couple of additional points. It is a short walk into the town of Fitzroy Harbour from the end of the day use beach. There is pretty good convenience store and pizza place there to stock up on necessities. The town of Arnprior is closer to the park than Carp and has a full grocery store. Don't miss Wes' Fries (seasonal) in The 'Prior, rated one of the top french fry stands in Eastern Ontario (our family concurs!) Fitzroy is also a great base for attending the annual Carp Fair in September, one of the best small town fairs in the region.

It seems like an overall nice park and I like that the water was calm enough that you could still get out on the river. Though that snake would have had me paddling as fast as Cheryl! Adding this to the potential parks for next year!!

That shot of the corner with the brewery at 1:30, instantly recognized my hometown! It's so cool to see you guys explore a part of my childhood. I grew up and went to school in Carp, and spent countless days at the arena and market/fairgrounds. That was wild to see.

Informative video yet again that we actually watched in Grand Bend. Always good to take notes for our own planning. Well, following in your footsteps of a few seasons ago, we visited Pinery Provincial Park last weekend. It was 20 C for the two days there, but unfortunately, canoeing was closed. We enjoyed the beach and hiking on the Cedar Trail. We are now determined to do the Lake Superior and Sleeping Giants next September, but in June, we will explore Lake Huron parks.

Sounds like some great weather at Pinery. The Lake Superior Parks are a far drive but well worth it for a change of pace. It's an exciting time planning next years trips. We'll be starting to make reservations soon.

Glad you showed the park I frequent in May and July. You missed the grave stones and markers that you can find in the camp trails off the beach and the camp site just above where you were situated. There is also a marker at the end of the large parking lot at the big beach up on the hill just past all the picnic area. The site that you were camping at is usually flooded out until July 1. I personally wont book down that way as you said there isnt much privacy and usually fairly wet. Great for larger groups though. Glad you enjoyed your trip !!!!

Ok. So Ben you said we would have to wait until “next week” for the Bonnechere camping review video. Is that accurate? Or are we waiting two weeks? 😜 Great video of Fitzroy. The turbo speed race with the snake was hilarious. A shame there was no recording of the deer. Look forward to the next video.

Two questions: With respect to the unthreaded black water hose, is there a reason that the Parks do this, and secondly, is there a solution for this or should I just avoid the cleaning of the black tank for this trip? Thank you.

  • @CampingwiththeColes

    @CampingwiththeColes

    10 ай бұрын

I spoke to someone that used to be very high up in Ontario Parks Management. He said that for health safety, to prevent back flow, all hoses have to be unthreaded. They were even required to put on the heads with the water gap to prevent people from attaching their own threaded end. As time went on from that original order some parks are a little more relaxed about it. But as far as I understand all Ontario Parks water hoses for potable and non potable are supposed to be unthreaded.
