S̶T̶I̶ .. Staccato P Review: Great 2011 with a Confusing Identity

Спорт

The Staccato, Staccato P..... or is it the STI Staccato P...... or the P by Staccato.
Whatever you call it, this is a very good gun from the artist formerly known as STI.
Here are the Cliff's Notes:
Slide to Frame Fit - Snug/5 Stars
Finish - DLC (which is good)
New Magazines don't over insert - ++
Price - $$ (I have a skewed perception of value)
Packaging/Marketing - Solid A+
Grip - Unergonomic
Overall - Stipple the grips and change the grip safety and it's a contender for top 10 gun
Bottomline: It ain't your Gen X'er USPSA shooter's STI, but it's an excellent production gun meant for a wider audience... and that's a good thing for 2011's overall.

    The 4.4" barrel was for maximum reliability with a mounted MRDS for US Marshall SOG standards. Side note, very fair review even when you do work for the competition. +1

    I like this gun a lot, just have personal preference issues. But to be able to make a gun of this quality at the pricing they do, there are bound to be tradeoffs. Honestly, i don't know how they sell it for 2k retail and make any money... but more 2011 shooters is good for the entire 1911/2011 market. And about the 4.4" barrel..I saw that in the description... i really cant see .15" making a reliability difference in a bull barrel... but sometimes the gov has their own requirements.

    @@defconcreative lol i work for the DoD, trust me i know. Personally I picked a staccato cause i was 2011 curious and Nighthawk was out of my price range for a trial gun, and Triarc didnt make exactly what I wanted. Now that I know im a 2011 fan boy ill be getting a NH next unless triarc makes an integrally comped 9mm cough...bonus points for rear irons forward

    I just bought the stacatto p duo 2020 version and so far, I really like it for a duty grade 2011. I know there are better 2011’s out, but they aren’t duty grade so to say and that’s what turned me into this gun. Plus for the price point, I don’t really want to spend anymore than 2500 as that’s a lot of money to me. Thanks for the review

    the 2011 has 5 safeties ..thumb safety.. grip safety.. 2 different disconnector safeties 1 doesnt allow the hammer to be dropped until the slide is in full battery... the second disconnector safety requires the trigger to be reset before the next round is fired... and the last safety is a notch cut in the hammer that catches the sear (drop safety)

    The extra recoil springs are to keep the gun cycling reliably with different loads. The heavy spring would be for higher powered loads to keep the slide from beating the frame to death and the lighter spring is to keep lower powered loads from stove piping during fire. Sig also includes extra springs with their X5 Legion. I’m also having over insertion issues with my Staccato P. The 20 round mag is heavy enough when loaded to correct itself but the 17 round mag I actually have to pull downward to get the button to pop back out.

  • @defconcreative

    @defconcreative

    Yeah... I noted that about the recoil springs... my comment was more about the fact that mainsprings can do more to affect the cycle of the slide than recoil springs... bummer about the over insertion

    The concept behind the bull barrel isn't to add weight---yes, the barrel is thicker and weighs more but an equal amount of material must be removed from the slide for the barrel to fit and there is no bushing. So the overall weight of the uppers are very similar. However, a bull barrel gun has less reciprocating mass and more stationary mass when compared with a bushing 1911/2011. This is why the setup is so common in USPSA and the feature is heavily regulated in the rules of various competitive orgs.

    The reason why staccato went with the 4.4 because the 5in was just was way too much for a 9mm to work with and the slide reciprocates slower, so when staccato was looking for duty size barrel they looked at all the others from the 4.5, 3.8, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2 and 4.6. The first staccato was a 4.1 barrel and it did very well it’s just that the barrel was too short and wasn’t enough for a “duty” role and staccato went with a 4.4 as of now is because it’s like a hybrid role between a government frame and a commander size which is unique, so your getting the sight radius as a government but the barrel is similar to a commander size. Also 4.4 4.5 plays a role as a duty style pistol with that length. And that’s why Atlas gun works went with the 4.6 for their “duty” role for a premium price. As of now 650 LEO agencies have adopted this pistol fucking insane how fast the numbers grew with only a 2-4 year time frame.
