Sólstafir - Fjara (Official Music Video)

Музыка

From directors Bowen Staines (www.dontpaniciceland.com) & Gunnar B. Guðbjörnsson, comes a new project for Iceland's masters of psychedelic metal, Sólstafir. The video is for the song, "Fjara", off Sólstafir's chart-topping double album, "Svartir Sandar".
The conceptualization for the video began back in July of 2011, and started production in late-September. The story follows a young woman who bears a difficult and woeful burden, obsessively dragging behind her a large, timber coffin. Her intentions are uncertain, as she encounters Four Spirits along the way - the Earth, the Desert, the Enlightened, and the Devoted - like lighthouses guiding her path. The ultimate purpose of her journey is slowly revealed through her encounters with these Spirits.
The lead role was gladly given to Rebekka Kolbeinsdóttir, an exceptionally talented actress and versatile musician. Rebekka's enthusiasm and commitment to the project was immediately evident, and there is no doubt that "Fjara" would be a completely different video had she not been involved. Wearing a thin wedding dress in the middle of November, barefooted, pulling a coffin nearly twice one's weight through the Icelandic wilderness is not an easy task.
The original intent was to have the video shot and completed before "Svartir Sandar" was released on October 14th, but due to increasing complexity of the latter scenes, the considerable time needed for postproduction, and some of the most awful, unpleasant weather so far that month, "Fjara" was not completed until the beginning of January. Thankfully, we had the privilege of working with the extremely enthusiastic members of Sólstafir, who always stayed several steps ahead to insure production went smoothly. Kolla Jónsdóttir generously lent her time and expertise in designing the costumes and doing make-up, and Jakob Veigar Sigurðsson assisted in finding great locations and making sure the team had places to stay.
Shooting wrapped at the end of November, on a particularly memorable and unusual Sunday morning. With only the last shot remaining, the crew arrived at the Skógafoss waterfall at sunrise. Over the course of the next hour, the 70kg timber coffin was carried to the top of the waterfall, affixed with floatation and a small ContourHD waterproof camera, and carefully lowered into the rushing water. With only a bungee cord and rope tied around his waist, Sólstafir drummer Guðmundur Óli Pálmason, waded into the water and pulled the coffin to the middle of the stream - mere meters from the edge of the falls. He was quoted at the time, saying "I'm not really nervous about going over, I'm just ready to finally get rid of this thing!"
After nearly another hour of preparation and careful adjustments mid-stream, the coffin finally coasted to the edge of Skógafoss, and plummeted spectacularly downwards to its explosive end. To everyone's surprise, the camera we had attached to the coffin was successfully recovered, and is the last shot to appear in the video.
The directors and band wish to thank everyone who was involved in the production of "Fjara", and hope you will enjoy it!

The punchline is that if you actually floated a coffin over Skógafoss (the waterfall at the end of the video), the river will dump it out into the ocean right at a spot where the ocean currents would make it wash up on Reynisfjara (the beach at the beginning).

SONGTEXT : (Icelandic) Fjara Þetta er það lengsta sem ég fer, Aldrei aftur samur maður er, Ljóta leiðin heillar nú á ný, Daginn sem ég lífið aftur flý, Ef ég vinn í þetta eina sinn, Er það samt dauði minn, Trú mín er, að allt fari vel, Þessu er lokið hjá mér, Dag sem nótt, hljóðið var svo rótt, Þrotið þol, lamað bros, Áfram ríð, hjartað pumpar tárum, Dag sem nótt, ég geng nú einn, Grafin bein grotna í jörðunni, Eins og leyndarmálin þín, Sem þú hélst forðum burt frá mér, En blóðið þyngr'en þögnin er, Svikin orð, grjót í kjafti þér, Rista dýpra en nokkur sár, Brotin bönd aldrei verða söm, Lygar eins og nöðrubit, Þetta er það lengsta sem ég fer, Aldrei aftur samur maður er, Ef ég vinn í þetta eina sinn, Er það samt dauði minn, Trú mín er, að allt fari vel, Þessu er lokið hjá mér, Dag sem nótt, hjartað var órótt, Þrotið þol, lamað bros, Áfram ríð, hjartað pumpar tárum, Dag sem nótt, ég geng nú einn, Ef ég vinn í þetta eina sinn, Er það samt dauði minn, Trú mín er, að allt fari vel, Þessu er lokið hjá mér, Dag sem nótt, hjartað var órótt, Þrotið þol, lamað bros, Áfram ríð, hjartað pumpar tárum, Dag sem nótt, ég geng nú einn. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ (english) BEACH / or SHORE This is the furthest I will go. Never the same again. The vile path calling me, the day I ran from life again. If I win this one time, it will still be the end of me. My belief that nothing ends well. This is the end for me. Day and night, the sound was so pretty. Broken will frozen smile. Riding on, heart pumping tears. Day and night I walk alone. Bones rotting in the earth, like your secrets that you long kept from me. But blood weighs more than silence. Broken words, shards in your mouth, cut deeper than any wound. Broken vows will never be the same. Lies like the viper´s bite. This is the furthest I will go. Never the same again. If I win this one time, it will still be the end of me. My belief that nothing ends well. This is the end for me. Day and night, heart was uneased. Broken will frozen smile. Riding on, heart pumping tears. Day and night I walk alone. If I win this one time, it will still be the end of me. My belief that nothing ends well. This is the end for me. I'm a big fan of sólstafir and a lover of Icelandic nature because it reminds me of my volcanic hometown.I listen to their songs everyday, somehow they have become my comfort zone, last year by this time I was driving in snowy roads and with view of frozen lake and mountains I was listening to this song, it made so much sense, I felt so much closer to my feelings and thought more about them then took deep breath and moved on, Fjara is one of my pleasant memories.

This song has deep meaning to me...the way i see it sometimes we go through life carrying our past grieves, fears and while living too much in the past we miss the beautiful things in our present moment. To me, this song is about letting go of that which burdens us and no longer serve us :3

People chill out, paganism is merely a matter of numbers. Just because fewer people believe something, it doesn't mean they're wrong. And if Christians actually believe their faith and their scriptures are worth more than others, the "good books" they should read are the history ones. Despite Jesus and his miracles, Christianity wasn't such a big deal until it became the official religion for the Romans, and most conversions were accomplished at sword point: you either worship My God or you die. We know this for a fact. There is no record, not even in christian literature, of a wide spread of their faith before that time. From that time ahead, most pagans were fought, exiled or killed, all thoughout the dark ages and a significant part of the modern era. So the message of love and peace was imposed by violence and fear. There is no arguing that. And the heads of Christian cult always had dinner at the same table with the powerful and the wealthy; even today with the separation of church and state they manage to meddle in politics. So... it's pretty hard to determine how far their "true message" would have gotten without all that influence. Humility is something they preach, and rarely practice.

I’m here in the United States viewing this video yet again. I came upon it by accident, Or fate 2 weeks ago. A Perfect Circle, my U.S. bands video led me to Heirlung’s video and from there I ended up here. I find it to be a work of art & intriguing imagery that is meaningful to me and the way I view my life. I do not know what the creators (of this video) intent and purpose was in making this, but I do know that my Creator is using it for my good. With gratitude and thanks from this inspired soul, Godspeed!

I love this song. It was the song my friend Luna introduced me to and I miss her dearly she passed away a few days ago and my heart is so so broken and this song makes the pain bearable recalling the beauty and truth of the bond we shared. I wish I pray I would give anything to see her again and just see her smile and tell her how special she is. How much she taught me about the dark side of happiness and how it can feel good to be sad when it's a good reason to be.

Its amazing how Solstafirs sound changed in the last 12 years. Í Blóði og Anda was the first album i bought and it was full of bitterness and despair. I see that the emotionality of their music never left this band. Its just going into other directions. Sure, now the sound is different. But i enjoy it as much as the old one, if not even more because of the wider spectrum.

This is the furthest I will go. Never the same again. Day and night, heart was uneased. Broken will frozen smile. Riding on, heart pumping tears. Day and night I walk alone.

Lyrics right here!
