I had severe play/movement on the front. I rebuilt the front differential and going to install new front axles.. I didn't have the new axles when I just finished the rebuild and there was still some play with the old axles... was told and also seen the spindles was some what worn. I think the new axles will be the cure for this. .. then the entire front drive will be done. Thanks for the video.

To keep them tight, take a thick O-ring and slide it over the inner axle splines prior to installation. Grease the inner splines and install the axle into the diff cups. The O-ring should "just" touch as the c-clip snaps in place. Helps to keep the grease in and the water and crud out. STILL, pull them at least once a year, clean and re-grease.

When you said you replaced the front differential 'cups', does that mean you replaced the splined hubs inside the differential? My 2012 Ranger is really loose in the front and both those hubs in the front differential are over $700.

Yes. I forget the part number, but you can get the replacement cups (and most of the diff parts) from John Deer. These Hilliard diffs are the same that JD uses in many of their machines. I want to say I paid about $275 for both cups, outer bearings, outer seals, and pinion seal. It takes a little research, but almost all those 800 diff parts can be gotten at JD for MUCH less than Polaris charges.

@@tommyc8333 o.k. thanks. One guy says he replaced the cv axles and got rid of most of the slack. He says the cv axle splines wear a lot more. Any experience with that?

@@dukelps9132 The CV splines do wear...typically faster than the diff cup. So sometimes you can fix a lot of the slop with new inner CV's. BUT, at some point, the diff cups will wear to the point that even with a new CV, there's still just to much play. Also, if you CV's are dragging the frame or a-arms, check your front diff mounting plate. They are notorious for cracking and allowing the diff to shift...and drag. You should be able to see any damage from directly under the front end.

If you pull the front axles and look inside the differential where they go, you will see splines ....just like on the CV joints. Those splines are inside of a piece of metal called the "differential cups". They obviously hold the axles, and seal the differential from water, dirt, etc. What I did was to replace those "cups", as well as buy new inner CV joints for my axles. With everything new, there is no play. Since I did this repair, I've replaced the inner CV joints once (yes, I'm still running my 800, lol). I have some wear on the cups, and some slack now, but nothing compared to what I had before the repair. I have no idea if you can get replacement diff cups for the 900, but I can almost guarantee for what those cups cost, you can probably get a brand new diff for just a little bit more money. It's absolutely STUPID what they cost for the 800. Good Luck !!!!!!!!!

What's plus 6 length of the axel

They are 6" longer than the stock 50" model axle. If memory serves me, the "S" model is basically a "+5" kit. There are only a few places that still sell the +6 axles. Most sell the "S" model as their "long travel" axle unless you want a custom length. Look on the axle shaft. Some places will stamp the part number on the shaft. That part number usually has the axle length included in it. You might get lucky.
