Ryujin: The Dragon King of the Sea (Exploring Dragons and Serpents)

In Japan, Ryujin - the dragon king, sea god and master of the serpents was not your typical airborne dragon that terrorised cities or breathed hellish fire. Instead, Ryujin was depicted in art as more of a sea-serpent - a creature that stuck to the waters as opposed to soaring the skies.

In Korea we believed something similar. The dragon king, Yong Wang of the Eastern sea was said to live in his kingdom on the oceans floor with dragons who were also people/fairies. And during the typhoon/storm season he was said to travel to his palace in the heavens, and the wind kicked up would cause typhoons hurricanes and storms and other types of oceanic phenomenon. In ancient Korea virgins were said to be sacrificed to the Ocean God to calm the sea. The tale SHIMCHEONG GA tells about this. And we also believed in the same things as well with sea turtles and other sorts of rare sea creatures, and also whales were revered as well being considered sea gods. Even a form of the Sea God. Yong wang was also lord of rivers lakes moisture and rains. He was worshipped in the form of a jar filled with water known as a dragon jar.

but the thing about the Long type dragons of East Asia was that they weren't that much of snakes like of their European counterparts (I love the story of the King/Prince Lindwyrm btw) but rather they're like beings who withstood the test of time and gained their status (like the carp story who became dragon)... it's the positive side of dragons but in European much like the Prince Lindwyrm it's about shedding their scales but still the knowledge motif is present, but to all dragon archetypes their weaknesses or rivals were often those that could encapsulate/lock them up like cats (European heraldry of Lion against Dragons, Bastet and Apep, and there East Asian mythos Dragon vs. Tiger)

Ryujin depicted in human form has long red hair

In the game there was ( if remembered correctly ) suijin for water fujin was wind and sanga of the thunder also known as kazejin and maybe same as raijin as in raiden. After a quick look there are quite a few elemental gods and demons of this Ilk.

I just wanted to tell you that I loved this, but the real reason he turns him into a crane is because the shinto believed that cranes lived for 1000 years, and that turtles lived for 500 years. It can be likened to the story of Job in the bible where he was given twice what he had lost previously, but in this case instead of receiving twice the human life span, he received twice the life span of the turtles that he saved.

Al Salaam The Ryujin sounds like the Mami Wata people of coast of Ghana. It is not one being The Mami Wata or Kami Wata but is an extrateresstrial race of beings. a young woman from ghana was kidnapped in the 1980's and went missing for 3 years. When she returned she told that this group had abducted her & forced her to have children with her. My teacher in Islam told me that there are some seraphim who live in the water & some who live in underground caves.
