That looks like a pretty smart system as long as that release latch keeps working. I'm 17 boxes into packout at this point. Seems really cool. Looking forward to the one year later episode.

1 year later. The seals failed 6 months in, they are foam, not rubber, and they take on water and bloat and tear, this problem is compounded by the latches which are too loose from day 1, and only have tension due to the seal, which fails, also the seals compress and release due to weight shifting which causes the raised plastic ridge to cut the seals, which leads to faster water bloating then catastrophic failure. Making the boxes start to leak water getting your tools wet. Also handle failed, since it is only attached by a tiny self tapping skrew.
@theomegawerty9688
Жыл бұрын
Ryobi should offer a free actual rubber seal and stronger handle skrew attachment upgrafr for free to all purchasers if the system. I was super excited for this since I'm a decades long ryobi fan, they really let me down with these skimpy components, being the seals snap clip tension and tiny skrew holding the handle. Everything else is a good value for the price. But the above factors in my opinion are not acceptable, and should have never been fielded to the public in that condition. Rubber seals, more robust clip tension, and a pass through bolt on the handles and this system would be a real competitor. Otherwise it's basically setting a subpar standard that feels like they outsourced these key fail points design to engineers they hired on Fiver.

@Theo Megawerty I've been recommending the rigid 2.0 boxes to anyone that's timid of packout prices. I appreciate your update. Sorry to hear they failed. I work with a 40 year long career carpenter and he said just yesterday, the first thing I do when I buy something new or used, is fix it. He was working on a brand new roof rake at the time. Issues like you mention are mind blowing considering TTI owns Ryobi, Milwaukee and Rigid.
Picked mine up today, Smeesh Brutha. One thang I noticed, I laid the big box down in the bed of the truck & by the time I got back to the house, the handle picked up a bunch of black marks from my bed mat which wasn't real nice like. Cheers

@@ToolReviewZone Well, I returned mine today. Noticed the handle wouldn't lock in on one side on the rolling box & can get the Milwaukee for $30 more at Northern Tool. Like you said, it seems like it's better built & I getting tired of returning the Ryobi tools. I just need to learn how to change the brushes in all my old blue Ryobi stuff. Cheers
Love the milwaukee packout because of all the mods you can do with the aluminum rails and how easy it is to buy/3d print packout feet. I feel like it would be harder for the ryobi link system to have as many features as the packout system and while not being much cheaper. We'll have to see those black friday prices.
I like how they just lift off of each other rather than push the button, then slide towards you with the packout

Definitely a cool system for sure. I'm going to use and abuse a bit more and do a second video
Wish I could invest in this! I bring a lot of things into a house upstairs and in basements on the same visit, but I’m only there for 1 1/2 to 4 hours at a time, 5 occupied homes a day. To many stairs and I think it would be more of a hassle, especially in the snow and rain. My initial tool bag that I first bring in weighs about 55lbs. 👊🏻👊🏻 Thank You for the video!
I definitely want to get my hands on these.
This is the most durable system I’ve found.
I like the Ridgid boxes but just like them not having drawers is why the Milwaukee boxes will keep outselling Ridgid and Ryobi. I was hoping one of the two would have a 2 and 4 drawer by now.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but this I built much better than the RIDGID. You would think it's the other way around, but these are definitely more heavy grade 🤷
@timmietimmins3780
2 жыл бұрын
@Jon Doe They actually already sell a hand truck (Which I think makes more sense than a dolly). I think it's about 200 bucks. but I would just go with professional grade hand truck or folding hand truck. Lots of companies make them. I know uline and magliner both maintain EXTENSIVE lines of high quality aluminum hand trucks. Frankly, I am kind of shocked I don't see MORE carpenters with hand trucks. Not just for materials, either. We have ladders on my crew that are like 80 pounds. Would be so much nicer just to walk them in on a truck. (I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet as I am waiting for the electric transit to upgrade my storage space, but that's what I am planning long term for my systainers: an aluminum hand truck). I think there's a good reason they don't have a bottom drawers and wheels though. The bottom drawer would have to be much smaller to allow for the space for the wheels, and it would be RIDICULOUSLY heavy. The rolling box is 25 pounds (the 17 inch box is 14 lbs), and the packout drawers (14 inches) are 24 lbs. Extending the sides of a box 5 inches does not add 11 pounds. I strongly suspect that the wheels and drawers unit would be like 35 lbs empty. That would be HARD to get up onto a tail gate by yourself loaded, even completely destacked. And if you are using a van or trailer, you have the vertical space to store a hand truck or folding hand truck, which is a far more durable way to move stuff in and out of a jobsite. And Milwaukee is already on board with that plan, as they already have their truck on the market, photographed being used to move packout around.

There’s drawers now 👀
I have the Milwaukee packout system and I don't understand why they came out with the large box when I rather just buy the same packout with the wheels and handle. But the Milwaukee packout some of their items starting to get a little pricey because they have you locked in just like when it comes to the batteries not many people switch over because of the price. If the system works why not spend less money and put tools into them that you don't use as much. Happy New Year brother to you and the family. Just bought a new truck always went with Ram but got a 2021 Ford XLT Sport really nice looking truck. 💯👍🇺🇸

@@ToolReviewZone I don’t regret my pack out and I love it, but I do like the attachment system on this link. Haven’t used or felt how positive it locks, but sometimes sliding two milk crates with a large tool box and small parts container on top can be a little challenging, it looks like I’m trying to reproduce with my pack out system, wish I could as it would save me some cash 😆

As a home owner I like this system but have already made the plunge with milwaukee, I don't see why milwaukee couldn't introduce a similar latching system just by changing the Lids and making new ones affordable for existing owners. Maybe TRZ would try swapping out Lids see if it's possible 🤔
I've bought in to the Rigid set great stuff really water tight and keeps things secure. It also has a bar that can run through all 3 boxes using one lock instead using 3 locks for the boxes. Do I like the new Ryobi stuff yes definitely they have really step there game up. But out all the brands that make these system Rigid if by far the best price and value. Thanks for the vid

Thank you for the video and I go with the craftsman trade stack fir 179 at Lowe’s
Yo Clint! Happy New Year! 😎🎸👍
👍👍, it depends on what part of the US that you live whether you pronounce it Ryobi or Reobi, it doesn’t matter because the tools will work the same. I like all of your videos, they’re great and informative, this one has brought a 🙂on my face even with a pounding sinus headache. My wife said that men like their toys & I said yup. I’m a DYI’er, so this one will be great for me. I own some Ryobi cordless & corded tools, a DeWalt cordless circle saw, Metabo HPT cordless & corded tools, they’ll look great in those Ryobi boxes 😀😀. I’m waiting for you to use them & show/give us your feed back. Again 👍👍👍on the video keep’m coming, have yourself a blessed blessed day today and God Bless
I just bought one of these. The website didn't mention anything about the honeycomb locking. That's pretty dope.
What is the height of the close Ryobi Link Rolling Tool Box when the handle is remove? (my tonneau cover have 15.75 inch of clearance)
If I’m going to buy once and maintain it will be the Milwaukee Packout. Great information. Thank you 🎈
I've already got it no bit holders are actually included those spaces are empty it's a good thing that they're locking mechanism pops off the bottom of the box with screws cuz we all know those are going to get filled with all kinds of debris

Great point. Which brings up the pro vs diy use. It’s great for staying in the garage. But on a job site with mud, dirt and gravel, how will those “blades” hold up? And in general, that locking system runs along the entire bottom. So it’s obviously hollow in part. I’ll wait a year to see how they are holding up.
Here’s the million dollar question Clint: Three Piece Ryobi $199, Three Piece PackOut $279 which one you buying?

You can Very quickly and cheaply just replace the permanent fixtures with quick release pins. Just search youtube, you will see dozens of guys who have done it. It's not hard. not that that fixes the main problem I see with the rolling packout thing, that every handle I have seen in real life is bent badly enough that it no longer goes in and out smoothly. Maybe the guys I know are just a bit rammy though (I don't have any myself, I am a systainer guy).

@@timmietimmins3780 cool, thanks Man!
It looks well made. But when I can afford it I'm going to get into the packout cause my drill and impact combo came in a packout case
Not too shabby, and probly half the price (without even looking lol) The hex lock thing is almost hypnotic, but a great idea. I'm just starting a Milwaukee journey, just ordered the 7 1/4 rear handle M18 Fuel circ saw, M18 fuel impact and good set of batteries. Likely buying the hackzall soon too. As for tool storage I'm not sold on packout just yet, but it's a pretty convincing case to pony up lol I don't like the bit storage on the lid, gunna cause stress on the joints. I foresee many broken lids and would have been better placed along the back wall. Much more space
@timmietimmins3780
2 жыл бұрын
I would not worry about that specifically. That bit holder will hold almost nothing in terms of weight (couple pounds), and systainers work fine with their 2 plastic hinges (the new sys 2 has an extra one in the middle, but the t-locs just have 2.). I will routinely open my systainer 3 foot high stacks to access the bottom box without unstacking. that means that I am putting 25 pounds of weight on the systainer hinges and they operate fine (to be clear, I don't let go of the top of the stack while doing this). A lid plus a couple drill bits totaling say, 3 pounds won't do anything. (for reference, an entire sys 1 systainer t-loc case is under 3 pounds. 3 pounds is a LOT.)
Looks 😎 it's definitely good for a DIY I want something with little more storage options that don't want DeWalt or Milwaukee Ridgid or other modular systems it looks nice it's not me but it looks nice 👍 great video Clint am sure to people will buy it whether it be one of their legal looking wall storage system with all the different hook and Holding configurations give you storage ability call me old fashioned but I'd probably use a heavy duty Rubbermaid bin throw some holes in there use some washers put some anchors in the garage wall if I had one and screw a few of them to the wall using concrete screws along with a Milwaukee milk crate or DeWalt or rigid just my opinion and as for the drill holder you can build your own out of wood with some PVC pipes
Nice!!
Can the bottom container mount of the wall?
So like a cheap version of Milwaukee pack out?

That's nice for the guys who like green. All of the "packout-style" sets have the same initial problem... Why the hell is the bottom box always a deep, top access box and not a set of really good drawers... honestly, the only one i want to open on the top, is the top box. Every other box should be drawers. Different strokes and all, yeah.. but for me, I want a packout that is just drawers and a good mid-sized open box on top. Never gonna happen lol.
@timmietimmins3780
2 жыл бұрын
The issue is that it's pickup guys mostly buying these rolling boxes (as if you could fit a proper hand truck, why would you spend the extra cash on the rolling boxes?), and that means you probably have to lift it to your tail gate. it would get weight prohibitive if you kept the wheels and got drawers. If you just want regular packout with drawers on the bottom, and a hand truck... Milwaukee sells a 400 lb hand truck for this system, and they sell drawers. Just throw the rolling tool box away, get a hand truck, and then you can use the same hand truck to move ALL your packout and some of your larger tools too, like say, your compressor, and your miter saw assuming you don't have a rolling stand.
I was excited early on for these but I went for the dewalt. That is one fantastic system!

Fantastic (and hilarious) content per usual TRZ. My 2 cents, I like what the thought that Ryobi put into this offering, but it's still Ryobi and one should probably expect Ryobi quality.
