The rebel flag is a sign of southern pride! Being proud of our heritage of being from the south. Nothing racist about it. You need to watch Churhes Apology video and hear what that flag means to him.

The reason it sounded like it started in the middle of a song is it started in the middle of a Luke Combs song. Luke's label has apparently tried to get this one pulled because of the presence of the confederate flags. Upchurch's response was to tell Nashville singers to stop being sissies.

That flag is the Battle Flag of the Northern Army of Virginia which was commanded by Gen. Robert E. Lee. It looks nothing like the actual flag of the Confederacy(which nobody flies today). It never flew over any state capital during the Confedarcy and was little known to anyone in the South during the Civil War except for the soldiers that fought under it. Traditionally, as a battle flag, that flag has long been a symbol of pride for the bravery of our soldiers that hailed from the South and well beyond those that fought under Gen Lee's command. That flag was raised on the beach at Normandy just days after the D-Day landing and it flew on our American tanks as they entered Berlin. It was raised after many hard fought battles across the bloody Pacific and it flew (just below the U.S. flag) on the U.S.S. Mississippi as it entered Tokyo Bay for the formal Japanese surrender. There are those that (wrongly) represents racism or slavery or even rebellion because some ignorant racists in recent times have used it as a symbol of hate and in doing so disrespected the memory of the brave and honorable men that primarily fought under it for no greater reason than to defend their home, hearth and country. Upchurch has stated what that flag means to him and, like most, to him it means Southern Pride. BTW, the film crew that shot this video was black.

Ryan Upchurch is an independent artist but he does have his own label, HollerBoy Records. If you want know the unique back story of Upchurch you can watch the documentary on KZread called 'HollerBoy: The Rise of Ryan Upchurch'. His albums have charted well across Billboard's Country, Rock, and Hip Hop charts. His cover of Alice In Chains song 'Nutshell' has more views on KZread than their original. And his cover of Charlie Daniel's 'Simple Man' is every bit as good and as country as the original. That kid also has top tier lyrical and clever rap skills not to mention his being hilariously funny as well as having roughly a billion streams as an artist and content creator. He has even hinted at recording a purely Metal album in the near future. Give a listen to his song 'Pond Creek Road' for a taste of his hard rock chops. BTW, Country Rap is no more than just Rap Music from a Country rather than an Urban perspective although it often infuses elements from the country as well as rock music genres that have influenced southern rappers.

Apparently some blue hairs spotted the rebel flag sticker on the side of your guitar.' Yeah... You've seen that sticker a million times. It's nothing. 'We know that. But practice your fake tears and and get ready to talk about how country is racist. You know how much the public eats up that woke nonsense. It'll be a good look.' Yes, sir. Most southern rappers have rocked the flag including Lil John, Ludacris and Outcast. Social media has caused the biggest backlash with the rest of woke America. The American flag has been flown to do some really messed up too but I am incredibly proud to be American and incredibly proud to be southern. There is nothing wrong with that and Ryan has helped bring two genres of music at least and brought them together 🔥🔥🔥CREEKSQUAD💕🍄

What is funny is when I read comments where people make clueless statements about how the Outlaw Country artists differ from this Country rap or would not like it. In reality, among the original outlaw country artists the truth is much different. Willie Nelson has recorded with Snoop Dogg, Hank Jr. is close friends with Kid Rock, David Allan Coe has recorded with The Moonshine Bandits and even has his own rap song called "Free My Mind" kzread.info/dash/bejne/mpyCy6Nqh8qccso.html and Waylon's grandson is a country rapper and both Waylon's widow, Jessie Coulter, and his son Shooter have performed on rap versions of his songs with Struggle. Luckily original Outlaw Country artists aren't as close minded to different styles of music like country rap as the critics of country rap seem to be. Had they have been Outlaw Country wouldn't even exist as a sub-genre. I heard much the same garbage about so called "Bro-Country" and when somebody claimed that "Johnny Cash would never have done that teeny bopper music" I had to sadly correct them that one of Cash's first big hits was a song called "Ballad of a Teenage Queen". "It's not that they are ignorant, it's just that they know so much that is not true" - Ronald Reagan

My Necks of the Woods- rap/country, was noticed by Elton John and was played on his station. One of his 1st hits in 2016/2017 Yz (og) or YZ (the remix with Boosie)-rap Hillbilly-rap Ghost Ranch- rock no rap Dirty South- rock no rap Everlasting Country- Country no rap Roots Run Deep- Country no rap Imho No One Told Us is a great mix of all 3 genres. @@BourbonCountryReacts There is $millions to be made in selling merch and hundreds of apparel companies that can print your shirts. Adam Calhoun used his notoriety from viral videos to sell his shirt designs to Grunt Wear and made a fortune and used that money to produce his own independent music after meeting Upchurch and realizing that an artist no longer needs a record label to have reach. Now he owns his own million dollar ACal Apparel company and has had several number 1 Billboard hit records. Upchurch did much the same thing after gaining notoriety from viral videos and being sponsored by Redneck Nation and using that money to finance his music career. Oddly when the two first recorded anything together it was a video clowning Antifa. At the time Calhoun had long ago given up on his own Rap career and Upchurch didn't even know that Adam Calhoun could rap. Today they are multi-millionaires. @@nodim6379 and no not really this was the first song of Luke's I ever heard and it was his first ep. Also the reason I started to like Luke's music in the first place and even though his music doesn't always follow that side anymore (disappointing) some of his songs still do. But it's also the voice he has that old school sound in his voice. I like upchurch also just some songs should be left alone the way they were meant to be. But to be clear I do like upchurch and other country rappers too, such as moonshine bandits, savannah dexter and Sarah ross all have amazing songs. I'm just not a fan of the changes to this song specifically.

@@Melody-bourbonite4life You are missing one thing, had it not been for the exposure from this song, Luke doesn't get seen. I think the biggest issue with the drama surrounding this song is what happened afterward. Church heard the original and reached out to Luke and asked if it was okay to do a remix. Then he asked if Luke would be willing to come to Cheatham County to make a music video. Both of these things Luke agreed to. Both Luke and Church get reached out to by a record label. Luke signed, Church did not. Then said record label threatens to sue Church if he doesn't remove Luke's name from the video. At the time Church was much smaller but I doubt that there was really a case there since the rights on that song would belong to both Church and Luke and even if Luke sold his rights away on it to the label, they would not be able to force Church to remove the song. Then Morgan Wallen says the N-word to a 'white friend' and the internet blows up about it and Luke goes onto a podcast to apologize about the video done with Church. Two things that stand out to me on this. 1. There were not only rebel flags in the video but there was a radio station sticker on Luke's guitar that also had a rebel flag. 2. The video was shot by Charlie P and his crew, which happen to be black. I will say this, Luke does have a great classic country voice, but due to the fact that he is 'literally' controlled by his record label he is part of what is wrong with country music today. He in no way embodies what the original version of this song is because he threw all of that away for a check. He is now exactly what he was talking about in the original song. Just saying.

Now I don't think Luke Combs should ever sing can I get an outlaw. To me the song was more about an attitude that the people like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cashn and Waylon Jennings had. The day Luke Combs sold out and apologized for having them Confederate flag on his guitar and apologize for doing the song with Ryan Upchurch was the day he lost the meaning to that song. When Johnny Cash did the concert at Folsom Prison they told him there were certain lyrics that he couldn't sing. Johnny Cash still sang those lyrics. The original Outlaws of country music did music their way but they also stayed true to themselves and didn't let the record execs make them over to what could sell better. Just my opinion and my take on it

@@nodim6379 I won't disagree with that at all and yes he sold out. He really did. I just found out that he apologized for this video recently. But you are wrong about one thing the 2 versions were a year apart and upchurch was on a label at one point but they dropped him. My husband heard this version before I did, showed it to me and I just never cared for it. But I never actually saw the video until today. I'm not a fan of most remakes or remixes ( music or movies) sometimes they turn out good and other times they should just be left alone. But I know luke agreed to it and was even part of it and again upchurch has other songs that are really f***in good never going to argue with that either. And I am sad that luke sold out. And I wish Nashville would get their heads out of their behinds and let artists create and be artists.

The Talking Blues has a long tradition in country music. From Jimmie Roger's 'In the Jailhouse Now' to Hank Williams Sn 'No No Joe' or songs like The Downtown Poker Club, Hot Rod Lincoln or even on Jimmie Deans 'Big John' or Johnny Cash's 'Boy Named Sue' the vocal style, cadence and structure are very similar to what we think of as rap today.

Ryan is completely independent and if you know Ryan's history he is telling Nashville they are a bunch of poser because they are record labels appear evil nowadays Ryan will never sign with the record label he had plenty of offers all they want to do is tell him so nobody has to hear from him to get him out of the way cuz they don't like him
