Ryan & Rose - Part 1 - Salute & Shoot (the Finger)
Спорт
This is the first of eight segments featuring an unbelievable night with two baseball legends. The Kings of the Diamond Dinner, featuring the all-time strikeout leader Nolan Ryan and all-time hits leader Pete Rose, was held March 19, 2015 at the Marriott Plaza Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. The dinner was the kickoff to H-E-B Big League Weekend, an annual two-game Major League Baseball spring training exhibition series held at the iconic Alamodome. The event was moderated by former San Antonio Express-News sports editor Richard Oliver, however only on the rare instance when Pete stopped talking. It was a great night with two legends recalling their epic battles on the field, sharing stories about baseball’s colorful past, and their insights on the game today and the players that play it. Stay tuned for an upcoming announcement on the special guests for the 2016 Kings of the Diamond Dinner, and come back next Wednesday for Ryan & Rose - Part 2. All day long I can listen to the guys talk
Man, I love o.g baseball stories. I swear every story that I've heard has the potential to be a movie
I meet Pete Rose In Las Vegas. He was do a signing gig. I git to him he asked me how I wanted my baseball signed. I said to me Jerry. He said you know the baseball will not have as much value that way. I said I dont care about that. I want to give it to my grandson if I ever have one. He than told me to come and have a seat.He asked me where I was from. He than proceeded to tell about all the fun he had playing whne he ws very young in the minors as one of the parks was in my home town.He talked for over an 1/2 hour. Obtw..I now have a grandson...who is an All Star Player.

You can't help but appreciate the mutual respect these two have for each other.
Ryan was a machine!!! Today's pitchers will never come close to those stats.
Amazing how Pete Rose can recall his stats against any given pitcher he faced.
As a kid growing up in Orange County California, the Angels greatest move was getting Nolan Ryan. They went from having 11,000 people in the stands on a good night, to selling out. The franchise went from a joke to respectability on his back. Love the man...
Pete is the greatest baseball embassador ever. Put him in the hall of fame for God's sake.

i come back to watch this once in a while. i'm worried about the state of baseball honestly. guys like this are going to be gone soon
Nolan Ryan was an absolute beast on the mound. Dude was a total flame thrower.
Pete had nothing to say. Not many people can tell a story and leave Pete without anything to add. Two of the absolute greatest. The All-Time No-hitter & Strikeout King and the All-Time Hits King. Two fiery competitors who lived to get over on the other. Both had their moments.
There will only be one Nolan Ryan. And I’m sure all present and future batters are thanking God for that! Ryan was a BEAST on the mound!
This is absolute gold ! Being over half a century old and playing baseball for technically 14 seasons including highschool, I grew up watching these guys !
We were so lucky to actually be able to watch these legends in their prime and have them part of our lives growing up. The first thing I ever did when I woke up in 70's and 80's summers was check the box scores. We got to grow up watching the greatest players to ever play. I wouldn't trade those years for any of the the other generations or era's.
This.....was....GREAT !
And I also love the fact that baseball has no #1 guy (legend) but several #1s over a 150 years
An excellent clip.
this is what makes baseball so great!!!
Ryan faced the best hitters from four decades of baseball.....and dominated them. That's nuts
Living legends! Loved the way they played the game.
Pete for hall of fame 🙌
What a story. That was great.
im laughing as I'm typing great story by 2 of my idols growing up
Great story telling. Man, was Nolan Ryan a DOMINATING force on the mound! Thanks for posting,... made me smile from ear to ear.
The bottom line is what did he do on the field. He made mistakes we all have. But he paid for it,he done his time. It time he gets what he deserves. HALL OF FAME. BEST EVER Charley Hustle!

Pete Rose must have balls the size of coconuts to tell Nolan Ryan (who probably threw 105 MPH if they used today's radar guns) he's gonna line drive him right in the forehead lol. Would've loved to play with a guy like Pete. How could you not want to go to battle with him.

Back in the 80s Pete famously said "I should have the record for most records", Nolan Ryan has entered the chat.
Nolan Ryan was a true terrorist on the pitching mound. That cannot be disputed. Pete Rose was not only a phenomenal batter, he was part of the team that played in, and won, the greatest World Series ever. The 1975 World Series. 👨🏻🦳🇺🇸👍🏻🇺🇸😎🇺🇸
Having grown up with the Ryan Express, this made me laugh and made me sad too. Sad in that my beloved Halos should have never let him go. (The infamous Buzzie Bavasi's idiotic crack about all he needed to find were two 8 and 7 pitchers.) Watching Nollie pitch at the Big A back in the early '70s was like listening to a Mahler Symphony.... 220 pitches... 15 strikeouts... 12 walks... a hit batsmen.... a plethora of runners, and, probably 2 actual hits (both singles) with the crescendo being the Angels lose 2-1 in 12 innings with Ryan pitching every frame. Boy, he gave you your money's worth! That's for sure!

@@tygunn8183 And, of those 80 pitches, 41 are strikes and 39 are balls as they nibble, nibble, nibble. Plus they strike out 10, walk 4 and give up at least one 3-run homer. But, what they hey! It's a "quality start"!
