Ryan Moore speaks to Matt Chapman ahead of the King George

Спорт

Ryan Moore is one of the world's best jockeys, winning Derby's, over 50 Royal Ascot winners and enjoying plenty of success at the Breeders' Cup. Moore has also won two King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes, and this year has the ride on dual Group 1 winner Japan as he bids to beat Enable on her tilt at history.
Moore sits down with our own Matt Chapman, discussing all things King George, as well as some wider issues and talking points in racing.

People find it hard to imagine someone is just quiet. They obviously don't have kids. If he wasn't a jockey he might have been just in some boring office job. It's not his fault he iisn't a real TV celcelebrity.

Ryan moore is a great jockey. He's not a public speaker. He clearly gets very nervy when he's speaking and it gets on top of him. I could be wrong but I think he may be hiding a stammer. His breathing methods, last second word changing and slow quiet words kind of give it away. I have a stammer myself and I would be surprised if i was wrong. He grew up with horses and does what he loves despite not liking the media side of it, which I think shows alot of guts. He may have been rusty early in the season but he is no doubt a top jock and the master at sandown without question. Great interview by Matt

Interesting comments from everyone. I found this interview very informative. As for his personality, it is what it is. Moore to me appears to have a dry sense of humour, he cracked a few one liners. As for how good a rider he is, I tend to think when coming late he seems to ask an awful lot of his mounts, but I am no jockey.

Lamtarra was my first winner and to this day my best horse ever backed. They say frankel was the best horse but he was unbackable. Lamtarra was a small horse so he was underestimated every race he ran which made him great odds everytime he won . Even in one race he got swallowed up after hitting the front a thought hes beat ,no he dug deep and got back up in a group race thats quite something. A have been betting 30 years lamtara all the way .Triple crown champion. Best of all time. Look him up all on youtube...

I think jockeys need more help. The powers that be should be reaching out to them. It's an incredibly tough life with how much they have to eat, sweat, and then perform and get the best out of 1200lb animals. They should have coaching, see what's worked before and learn from it. Mike Smith, the old Frankie, Joao Moreira, the Australian, American and Hong Kong jockeys, they seem to approach it differently. I feel our jockeys aren't given the love and care they need. I just pray they have faith in God, eat lots of fruit, take herbs, explore their imagination, and don't feel trapped in a box. It's just an illusion if they do; life is beautiful and you have to beautify your mind and Soul. Always *empowered* no matter what life throws at you :)

Pretty unwatchable. Great admirer of Moore as a jockey - can't dispute his skill in the saddle. Have got progressively more fed up with the clearly cultivated defensive attitude. Horse racing is entertainment. It's not heart surgery, feeding the starving or saving the planet i.e. it's not serious. Moore shows little understanding of that in his treatment of journalists and he doesn't understand that journalists simply act as a go between for us, the viewing and betting public. A large chunk of the money which ends up in his back pocket comes from the hard earned wages of punters. Is it too much to ask that he acts with a bit of grace in front of the camera? As always, Matt has shown his usual willingness to put his head into the lion's mouth and get this interview. Personally, I can only imagine how awkward and difficult that must have been so he gets total respect from me.
