That’s the best part about him-he doesn’t take himself too seriously! He’s also a professional and enjoys entertaining people. He absolutely killed this performance and everyone at the Oscar’s had a great time. Also, if anyone noticed in the Barbie movie, a lot of actors were barely-some not too successfully-concealing their laughter at Ryan Gosling’s hilarious embodiment of Ken. ❤😊

Ryan Gosling breaking character is my favourite genre. he's hysterical whenever he's on SNL because he just can't deal.

The beginning when Margot and Billie are trying so hard not to die laughing and then Ryan does a little shake of his head - epic!

Ryan might’ve lost the battle (winning the award) but he won the war (winning the audience and giving a memorable performance).

Ryan broke the internet. I have not found one negative comment. Ken united us. (For 3mins) ❤

Oh Ryan Gosling is DEFINITELY a dancer! You gotta check out some of his early work, taking part in childrens' dance contests

Gosling is a MASSIVELY trained dancer. He's been dancing since he was 10. He used to be in tons of other dancing troops until he joined the Mickey Mouse Club, but he did training while doing MMC and then when he started doing more movies, he would dive in to choreography when needed. Just like in LA LA Land was a HUGE dance movie! SO yes, he knows how to do a lot of dancing and singing at the same time. He just takes his roles with a bit of fun, seriousness, and silly at the same time. He's a true Canadian.

when you realize two of the main Kens and also Alan were Canadian, you realize how much more chill Canadians are about not taking ourselves too seriously honestly.

When I watched Barbie, halfway though "I'm just Ken" I thought "I really hope to see Gosling do this at the Oscars". That's a lot of build up and still I'd say it exceeded my expectations. Just an amazing performance.

Ryan most definitely is a dancer. He had formal dance training while growing up. He’s just an overall song and dance man who can act as well.

I can't stop watching Ryan performing this segment. There's so much energy and joy (even though it was kind of a sad subject). I saw where Ryan was the one who worked out the logistics of the song and worked at getting all those background people up on the stage. Several of the fellows said that it was magical for them. They never thought they'd be on the stage at the Oscars. Well done!

I think he suggested doing it as a tribute/reference to Monroe's number too.

Ryan Gosling's first major professional gig was as a Mouseketeer on the 1990's version of the Mickey Mouse Club, where he would regularly participate in song and dance numbers. This really was a return to his roots.

It's a great feelgood sports comedy in and of itself, but made extra special if you're inclined turn it into a 'spot goofball Gosling' game. The full movie is on Disney+ but several clips can be found by Googling.

I think the best thing about the performance is that it entertained and was generous.

Best Oscar performance ever.

Homage to Marilyn Monroe in "Gentlemen Prefer Blonds" doing "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend". Ken does slap himself in the movie when he and Barbie are discussing him finding himself. He danced a lot as a young kid and even took lessons.

He won many dance competitions as a little kid Canada prior to becoming a Mouseketeer. So he does know how to dance - check out La La Land as well.

I have never seen it!!

He himself after the performance talks about ending on a note he could barely reach. It was in the interview for the premiere of his new movie Fall Guy. I believe he is very well trained in the basics.

Everyone forgets that Ryan was a Mouseketeer, and he’s definitely a trained dancer. Let’s not forget LaLa Land! 😊

This was awesome. I love this and his performance in the movie, lol.

6:42 this was iconic - all those Barbie faces. Also, I think it’s a damned shame this didn’t win the Oscar. It MADE the movie sooooo much better. Would have been kinda boring without Ryan and this song.

I'm pretty tone-deaf but when watching live I had wondered whether RG was suffering from a bit of a cold. Given that nobody else has since suggested that, and most commentary has been about how good the actor's live singing voice was, I'm now thinking back to Mark Ronson's revelation that the original movie recording was a couple of notches higher than usual for RG (although, to my ears, his Oscars performance sounded a bit closer to the Merry Kristmas Barbie video).

I am not sure. Actually, I think it was more to do with the performance aspect. They made it much fuller with the rock band than the original. I think he was in a great part of his voice don't you?

Nice to see how amped up you are over this. It was amazing! Ive been binge watching. Ryan is a dancer from childhood. He's a natural.

It was gloriously silly, I loved it. I thought that wobble was a nod to Bowie. Ryan did great, and the goofy dancing from the Kens was so funny too.

His uncle was an Elvis impersonator.

One of his early roles was Mickey Mouse Club with Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

He started out as a dancer! Even before MMC.

and he never went off pitch!!

It just hit me it’s a take on the Madonna material girl video- that’s why he is pink suited up with gloves? The stairs and men in black suits with the pink line sashes.

This whole performance is about giving it all and not holding in anything. If he would have been just a little timid it would have been just a little timid it would have ruined this amazing performance.

I love that they paid homage to the first human Barbie, Marilyn Monroe by using her iconic “Diamonds are a Girl’s best friend” (admittedly, I first thought of Madonna’s “Material Girl” since I’m an 80s baby (78 actually)….

I love your commentary! I have a 7 & 9 year old and they are naturally very good. We will start watching and learning, bc I don’t know enough about true vocal abilities and how to increase their confidence.

He should do a full album. I like this kids voice. 2024 April.

He has an album actually with his band.

It’s also amazing to me that I’ve never heard anybody else recognize Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt (song writers). The movie was Ken. This was all Ryan. Great performance and review! If you want to know how they wrote it, there is a Rolling Stone KZread video where he breaks that down. So interesting.

Now we just need Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Timothee Chalamet, Anne Hathaway, and Gal Gadot to appear in a Barbie sequel, with Emma Stone as Barbie’s best friend Midge who’s in love with Ryan’s Ken, and Cillian Murphy as Human Ken in the real-world, who’s Sasha’s (Ariana Greenblatt) teacher, and the love interest of Margot’s human stereotypical Barbie (Barbara Handler) in a Barbie sequel whenever Greta and Margot are planning on doing it right after when Greta gets done filming Chronicle of Narnia on Netflix. I DO hope that the original actors like America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Will Ferrell, Kingsley Ben-Adir (who also played Raggae singer Bob Marley in Bob Marley: One Love) Scott Evans, Alexandra Shipp, Michael Cera, Dua Lipa, and John Cena (Mermaid Ken) appear in the sequel too. Also, I think they should bring back Mark Ronson to compose and write more songs for the sequel (probably make it a musical this time) and probably for a Ken movie and Allan spin-off. We definitely need a musical broadway. Let’s start a petition!

I think the wobble in his voice his when he's leaning back. You hear his voice get unsteady earlier as well when he leans back. Probably not easy to sing while trying to keep your trunk tensed.

And interestingly, universally people had no idea about Ryan's background. He sang and danced with Christina, Justin and Britney in the mickey mouse club. He performed in singing and dance troupe and won awards in a Canadian star search. I don't know who these vocal coaches are but maybe research your subjects for 5 mins

Ryan does have a dance background. He was a song and dance man before he acted. He started dancing with a studio in Cornwall, Ontario as a child and was the only boy in the troupe. Appeared on Star Search and other competitions dancing and they even won a few of them. Then he tried out for Mickey Mouse Club as a teen and danced, sang and acted with Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Christina Agueleira. You can goofle and find videos of Ryan dancing and singing when he was young. He didn't dance much as an adult until La La Land, but make no mistake, he has moves.

Seems your glasses are fake, not prescription. It is kind of annoying on a few levels. Just a weird artifice.
