Ryan Gosling exudes so much depth, talent, and admirable characteristics in everything he does. One cannot deny he is a rare and gifted individual.

What an honour to be interviewed about your directorial debut by Guillermo Del Toro! Ryan Gosling seems to be a genuinely nice person, which is quite and achievement at his level of fame and being regarded as a sex symbol by so many women, and probably men! You always wonder if people like him are secretly or quietly assholes. So far, it appears not. God bless him!!!

I really appreciate Ryan Gosling for being more than 'just' a performer or a movie star, but that he is a real artist: willing to take risks and reach for the moon, even if it means he might crash. He'd rather reach for the stars and do something ambitious, personal, and 'true' and risk failure than to aim low and have success on lesser terms. You can see why his performances are so resonant and unique -- it's because of this artistic quality of going all in. The only difference is he has more experience technically as an actor and he got to 'practice' his craft as an actor with less visibility. Even though this movie kind of "missed' for reviewers and audiences, I think that the ambition and the striving to create something artistic and ambitious that connected inner emotional themes to in a realist world through analogy, (a non-trivial task) shows that Ryan is a genuine artist, and willing to take risks and reach for the moon. Not many first time directors have to make their first attempts in the glare of such a bright spotlight. This was a huge risk but he swung for the fences instead of 'playing it safe'. I respect that. And you can see where he has earned the respect of his peers.I think the fact that he brought so many great actors to be part of this first project, shows that he has rare qualities including vision, integrity, and passion and that is something that people want to be part of. I am sure this took a lot out of him, but I truly hope he directs again, because I know he has something to say.

Ryan Gosling is SO VERY talented. Ryan, and Ethan Hawke, are two of my favorite actors. These guys can act!! They'd be great in a movie, together. Hint, hint!!

30% on Rotten Tomatoes ? Come on It's almost painfully derivative (Lynch, Refn and Argento being the overarching influences), but anyone's first feature film would be, so I really don't get how much shit he got.

One of fav directors del Toro is master at creating his own monsters & World
Lost River is one of the best movies to come out in the past 5 years. I do not for the life of me understand how anyone could dislike it.

Same here. Found nothing. I've tried the empirical method (I mean, trying to achieve only by myself) looking for some mistake, for some fact that makes me feel something un-positive about him. But nothing. I still love that guy.

It’s a shame he never tried directing again, Lost River had its problems but with any type of art you always need time to grow, and there was a lot there to enjoy too.
