🇷🇼 Rwanda - President Addresses United Nations General Debate, 78th Session |
Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, addresses the general debate of the 78th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, 19 - 26 September 2023).
Rwanda's President Paul Kagame said his county “remains committed to working with partners, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, to contribute to a durable solution. He was referring to migration crisis, also affecting his county, saying that every year migrants and
refugees undertake dangerous journeys in search of a better future.
Addressing the General Assembly today (20 Sep), Kagame added, “that is part of our promise to leave no one behind.”
According to him, “this week, the International Telecommunications Union, led by Doreen Bogdan-Martin, together with UNDP, also unveiled a major new initiative on inclusive Digital Public Infrastructure.” He added, “Rwanda is very happy to be associated with these efforts, which show the United Nations at its best.”
The Rwandan President also said, “for Rwanda, the source of our solidarity comes from our commitment to never allow a repetition of the tragedy that was inflicted on us, nearly thirty years ago.”
Kagame concluded, “we continue to remain grateful to all who have accompanied us on our journey, as we plan to commemorate the Genocide against the Tutsi for the 30th time in April 2024.”
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.

What could be more shameful than that? Every year at the annual meeting of the United Nations in New York, when the President of the United States appears on the stage to give a speech, all the representatives of each country in the UN hall applaud the hall. When the President of the United States finished his speech, applause broke out in the hall. The sad thing is that the hall will be empty. Only a few will listen to the speeches presented by the leaders of Latin America, Asia and Africa, who will be speaking in the UN hall next. Whether this unfair meeting is held every year or not, it will not make any difference to our world.

Exactly, African Leaders should review their membership in that thing and own the boldness to express these embarrassments in all of their speeches. Because there would be no point inviting them over annually in the first place if and when the western world wont be interested in what they are going to say.

Pres. Paul Kagame gave a really well balanced speech. He acknowledged some of the challenges African countries must overcome in order to economically move forward. No private sector business from the capitalist countries will willingly invest in a country that is not safe, has corruption by the government and private sector, and is in danger of asset confiscation. I would like to add that the majority of money, whether private or thru the UN comes from very generous US taxpayers, who have been giving billions of dollars to the entire world for 75 years. In addition the U.S. has lost thousands of young soldiers who were fighting other countries wars. There are presently only about 200M taxpayers paying state and federal taxes, and that is where the domestic government spending and foreign spending comes from. There are 8B people on the planet…how many global people does the world think each US taxpayers are responsible for? Africa must stand together and work together to accomplish more on their own. The U.S. taxpayers cannot support billions of others. The UN has to stop demanding taxpayers are responsible for equity and flourishing, and free infrastructure, housing, food, medicine, etc., for 8B! It is an outrageous demand! The U.S. taxpayers have always given aid….but they are not indebted servants or slaves.

The challenges faced by the DRC are for the Congolese people to address. Rwanda's intent has always been to support regional stability and not to interfere in the internal matters of other nations. Rwanda’s role has been one of cooperation and collaboration, aiming to contribute to peace and security in the region.
