    The Sante Fe we used was a V6, and had a 500 pounds max hitch weight which is deducted from your max cargo capacity. Therefore if the cargo capacity is 930 pounds you must deduct the trailer hitch weight from it. This does not leave much room for passengers and luggage, unless the hitch weight is low. Your manual should advise you the maximum amount the vehicle can tow and the GCVWR (trailer and car combined) that should not be exceeded.

    Where did you get the wing mirror extenders from? Do they work well?

    Just picked up a '16 Limited AWD and would like to tow our Colman TT that is about 3,200 lbs. dry. Vehicle came with the tow hitch but I'm confused as to how to add a 7 pin harness? Is there a plug and play option or do you need to do some additional wiring?

    Hi Brad, the connector from the factory for the 7 pin harness should be on the left rear of the vehicle. (underneath) You need to remove the plastic cover. I suggest you look up the etrailer video on how to install and the parts to use, it will be helpful.

    @@rvhtravels Thank you for the quick reply. They car has the factory 4 pin already wired. I will give etrailer a call and see what I need for the 7 pin.

    @@brm98 Below is some Info from etrailer, I have. It may help. First you would need a 4-way for your 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe to start for trailer wiring. For that you would need the part # 118269. Now if your trailer does not have brakes all you would need is the part # 37185 as an adapter to convert the 4-way to a 7-way. If you do have trailer brakes you would need the # ETBC7 instead of the # 37185 and a brake controller. This kit comes with everything needed to wire up the 7-way and install a brake controller. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup

    Does an AWD pull any better than a FWD on Santa Fe Limited? I am upgrading my Santa Fe to a V6 and I am not sure which one is better for towing a small camper. I am looking at a 2018 FWD Limited.

    My understanding is a rear wheel drive vehicle is best for towing. Since many modern SUVs do not have that option therefore the AWD vehicle, that can send power to the rear wheels, would be a better choice. It would be wise to do more research on this subject before you commit.

    I have a 2014 Santa Fe, front wheel drive, I think it's a V6? I have a GVWR of 4850 and a Payload capacity of 930 lbs. Does anyone know if a 2014 can handle a trailer?

    Hello, curious why you chose to add air bags?

  • @rvhtravels

    @rvhtravels

    Even though I am in the allowable tongue weight and have a weight distribution hitch, I found the Santa Fe to have soft rear suspension. The air bags improve handling, prevent rear sag and allow for more rear suspension travel. They are however not without their own issues and unless correctly installed will leak. If you are located in the greater Toronto area, CT Motorsports will do an excellent job.

    @@rvhtravels what is the tounge weight of your trailer? I have the sport 2.0 turbo ultimate awd with the factory prep package I am rated for 3500lbs max. I will be towing a smaller travel trailer than yours which will be under the max load in all regards. I have my class III hitch on, my 7 pin harness is ready for my brake controller. I am also using an equalizer WD/anti sway hitch. Picking up the trailer on the 12th, so I will try to report back and let you know how the sport model tows.

    Hi - the tongue weight of the trailer in the video is 400/450 pounds, it however had 2 propane bottles. The tongue weight should be between 10% - 15 % of the trailer loaded weight. I suggest you Test out your set up and see if you are happy with the way the rig tows and the clearance you have in the wheel wells and under the WD hitch - as you say you are under the max load in all regards.

    @@rvhtravels absolutely. I may wind up putting airbags in the rear as well, but I'm going to test it first and see how it handles. The wd hitch I went with allows quite a bit of adjustment up and down, so well see how it sits without them first.

    I’m looking to buy 2017 Santa Fe and there is curt trailer hitch installed but there is no connector for 4 or 7 pin thing u guys are talking. It looks like 2017 doesn’t really have a factory towing package. Is it all needed to be added aftermarket? Do u guys also have electrical brake system installed?

    The 2017 XL V6 is prewirered. I recomend that you have a RV dealership install the brake controller and the 7 pin plug and check the installation of the hitch. There are some good videos on etrailer regarding these items.

    RV Travels okay I didn’t know they were pre wired. U also mentioned model ‘xl’. I didn’t know that they are making xl model in 2017. The car we are getting is 2017 Santa Fe v6 3.3l awd. It doesn’t mention xl or anything like that. I might ask the dealer. We are going to pull high wall pop up that weighs 3500lbs. I just want to make sure this bad boy can handle it

    @@bec5gtr You should be good, the tow rating should be 5000 pounds. Your trailer is 3500 pounds leaving some room. Check the hitch or tongue weight of the trailer, it should not exceed 500 pounds. I would be careful how much you load the car up, you will need to check the Gross vehicle weight for the vehicle and the the combined rig, making sure it does not exceed the numbers in the manual. You will also likely need a weight distrubition system to help with the hitch weight and possibly a sway bar. The electric brake controller is a must. I recomend that you have a RV dealer do the setup for you, if you are not sure how it all works together.
