    @Jon Miner Good Morning Jon! We haven't seen much wildlife here yet for some reason. There was a lot of scat on the ground near our campsite, looked like maybe pronghorn or elk. Who knows, maybe some horses will show up. We saw a lot of wild horses while we were in Wyoming though. Take care!

    I really enjoy your instructural videos. They are very clear and easy to follow. Always emphasizing safety👍🏼. While you were at it, did you check the electrodes on the water heater and the furnace as well? Just wondering. Seemed like a lot of build-up for less than two years old. Thanks again Ed. Nice work Ann! “Teamwork is dreamwork! Ram

    @Laughing Ram Hey Ram! Glad you enjoyed! I checked the one on the hot water heater and it was good. Have not checked the furnace though. That would require pulling the entire furnace out from under the fridge (had to do that before, it's not fun...). It was a lot of build up. I'm thinking maybe due to all of the dirt and dust that blows into that compartment? As always, thanks for watching and commenting Ram!

    I have always called that part the thermopile. Not a thermocouple or electrode.

  • @EddieAtLarge

    @Sadie04074 Hi Sadie! I do believe it is a carbon buildup, however, dirt & dust may have played a part in it. Not sure if you noticed, but, there is a ton of dirt and dust in the fridge compartment from our trek through Utah (I really need to clean that... ;) A similar buildup will happen on natural gas appliances as well and that is also a clean burning fuel. Thanks for watching!

    My domestic won’t switch to propane and I’m wondering if it could be because my small solar panel that keeps my battery charged is keeping the fridge with a small electric charge, enough to light the lights but not chill, it keeping it from switching to propane, it clicks but doesn’t switch. Do I need to call a pro? Or can I try disconnecting the solar from the battery…..I’m 80 not real handy!

  • @EddieAtLarge

    @EddieAtLarge

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Kathleen, the issue should not have anything to do with your solar panel. The fridge uses very little power when running on propane, so, if you have enough power to run the lights, you should have enough power for the fridge. I would suspect that you have an issue similar to what we showed in our video or you may need a part replaced such as the thermocouple or gas valve. Sorry to say that since you are not handy, I would recommend having an RV repair company take a look at it. Best of luck to you!

    Is there a way to prevent dirt buildup or is this just routine maintenance when camping out in dusty areas?

  • @EddieAtLarge

    Hi Jay, as far as I know, there is no way to prevent the buildup. Just routine maintenance like you said, maybe once per year.

    Mine has no spark . I can light it with a cigarette lighter and it runs fine . Any ideas ? I changed the igniter still nothing. .

  • @EddieAtLarge

    @EddieAtLarge

    Hmmm. Did you make sure you have the proper gap between the igniter and the burner tube? Our manual specifies a 3/16" gap for our make and model. If it's too close or too far away, it may not be able to produce the spark. Kind of like an engine spark plug has to have the right gap to spark.

    Usually, I found that it's related to elevation. At higher elevations, above 8000 feet, it takes more clicks to light the fridge, because the air is thinner, and the flame doesn't burn as well. I found that jat elevations above 10,000 feet, it might not light at all, and will just lock-out. The solution is to go to lower elevation. As for your suggestion about cleaning the electrode, I disagree. When it doesn't light, even though the electrode is producing continuous sparks, it's because it can't properly detect the flame, and this is usually due to thin air at altitude.

  • @EddieAtLarge

    @EddieAtLarge

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi John, while I agree that elevation does cause issues, this was not the case in our situation. You can clearly see the buildup on the igniter and the immediate results after it was cleaned. We were at 6600' elevation where we shot this video and have camped well over 8000' since without any issues with the fridge lighting. Now, we have had issues with our water heater having a really hard time igniting while over 8000' and I found a remedy to that by removing the main cover to allow it more air/oxygen. As soon as I remove the cover, it lights right away and burns strong. So, that may be an option for you to try when over 10,000' and your fridge or water heating is not lighting.

  • @The1Helleri
    @The1Helleri2 жыл бұрын

    Mine won't click half the time and clicks a lot without lighting when it does. I cleaned it (although it wasn't that dirty) as per instructed here. Even wired brushed and blew out the other areas up under there. Still nothing. But you know what does click? My stick lighter. So technically my fridge is working again. It's just a manually and not an automatic now XD

    Sorry our fix didn't work out for you. Sounds like you may need a new electrode. Great idea using your lighter for a temporary solution, of course, that will probably get a little tiresome after awhile. 😮‍💨

    @@EddieAtLarge Likely will. But I just spent a few hundred on the stuff to redo the roof. Complete with new vents. Even got an Alfa Camp pro 3 coming for it (just waiting on that to arrive and the ideal weather). I also just got done replacing a burnt out motor for the furnace fan. So I need a break from buying things to fix this PoS for a while, lol.
