RV Propane Safety and GasStop

GasStop can completely stop a propane leak. GasStop is a high-quality device that is attached between the OPD valve and the RV regulator. With this unit, if the flow rate is above a regular operating flow, then the unit will 100% stop the flow, thus saving your RV from filling with propane. So this unit will of course not affect regular use, but if a leak starts in the system, it will identify that and completely shut off the flow to your RV. Every single RV in America should have this unit, and they are not expensive to get, and now you can get it at TechnoRV.

I wanted to use the Gas-stop on both of my propane tanks, but it wouldn't fit in the propane locker of my Arctic Fox 27-5L 5th wheel (couldn't close the locker door). I inserted a 90° brass fitting between the body of the Gas-Stop and the fitting that connects to the tank. Problem solved! Works perfectly. I have photos if you're interested.

Hi Charles, Thanks for the info. Sometimes propane tanks can be in some tight spaces and sounds like you had a great work around with that. I would love to get a picture of what you did. Please email me the picture to eric@technorv.com. Thanks.. Eric

I got these added to my RV propane tanks, but reading now that it says they may shut off the propane when temps get down to freezing. My primary use for the propane is the furnace overnight when it's below freezing. So it sounds like I shouldn't use this device? I'm very disappointed. 😞 Something I'm missing?

The GasStop is good in temps from -4 to 131 degrees F, so it will be fine as long as it doesn't drop much below 0.

Thanks for the education! We had a leak from our tank while driving though gas was off in the RV: stove, heater, etc. Are you saying that this device would note the small leak near our tank and automatically turn it off?

Hi Don, Yes, if you had a leak downstream from the tank then the GasStop device would close shut and not allow propane through. It is a great safety device. It is tuned so that normal operation of flow is good to go, but if something is detected higher than normal flow, like a leak, then it would close that off. Hope this helps. Eric

If a stove burner control is left on without being lit will the gas stop detect the flow and cut off the propane ?

  • @Technorv

Hi Mailman, Good question, the GasStop device is designed to detect excess flow over what would be considered normal. In this case, a burner being left on would be seen as normal operations and it would not cut the propane for that. Generally a true leak, in addition to normal operation would be seen as a problem and the GasStop would automatically cut you off from that. Hope this helps. Eric

So after the gas flow is stopped after a excessive flow, how do you get your gas to flow again after you correct the problem of excessive flow?

Hey Ron, When you first connect the GasStop you will prime the unit by pressing down on the gauge 4-5 times. This opens the GasStop device and it will be ready to protect you at this point. If you had a leak, then the GasStop will shut the propane off, and to open the GasStop back up you would simply go through the prime process again. It is really easy, and a must have device for those with propane tanks in their RV. I hope this helps. Eric

All of the reviews and tests do not use a regulator in the line. How will this work if a propane line gets cut while I am traveling with my propane on?

The Gas Stop device reacts to any leak downstream of it. The device will will not know whether there is another device downstream of it or not as long as it senses the flow and the flow does not exceed 75,000 BTU, which is the shut off point. I hope I understood your question and that this helps.

How long do you have for this pressure to shut off? I want to know if you are trying to light your stove or oven if this will kick in and shut off the gas before this gets the gas-lit on your stove?

Hi Mike, The GasStop will not shut off for normal propane operations like your stove, heater, and other appliances. Normal flow would not exceed 75,000 BTU, so the GasStop is tuned to shut off immediately if you have flow gets above 75,000 BTU. If you were above this level then this would certainly be a leak in the system. Any flow below 75,000 would not activate the GasStop device. This is a great device that, in my opinion, should be on all RV propane systems. I hope this helps. Eric
