RV Living Travel Day Problems [RV Water Pump // RV Hydraulic Slides // RV Power]

“When it rains, it pours” is the saying. It seems that's usually true of RV problems as well. Many times, one problem leads to another or causes a mistake that causes another problem.

Love you two, I was a call center manager at CAMPING WORLD after a lifetime as a a boater . So I know what it takes to maintain a vessel or RV ! People think they are buying a computer assembled HONDA , not a home that goes through a EARTHQUAKE EVERY TIME YOU MOVE IT DOWN THE ROAD ! Thank you for the reality show I only wish more RV ERS would watch you videos!

At least you made it to James Island. It is one of my favorite parks. The dog park is amazing. As a software engineer for 30+ yrs, I would tell all the new guys, "You will never learn anything unless something breaks." They thought I was just being a smart ass. After a couple of years they would always come back and tell me how right I was.

Couldn’t agree more. If you are going to own an RV you really need to be handy. Things are going to break, and they will almost always break at the worst possible time! Great to see other folks trouble shooting process! I always learn something just by watching.

I’m with Chad here, I like figuring out how things work and fixing them. I much prefer buying the tools and doing the repairs myself especially on our RV. Getting an older used/abused one gave me lots of things to learn/do. I had to replace the gas valve on the heater, the kitchen sink & facet, the water heater and plumbing repair of broken pipes (toilet main pipe) replacing the toilet too & leaking water lines plus replacing the bad water input connection. So of course I’ve got the pipe cutting tool & the band crimping tool for the PEX tube. Also replaced all the old incandescent fixtures with the newer LED types. Got a metal sliver in one eye doing one and had to get it removed from my eye on a Sunday by my eye surgeon. (Yes I had safety glasses on at the time, it was just a freak accident)

I am a 72 yr old widow. Travel alone. Have 35’ class A gas. Grew up with two brothers rebuilding engines. Friday night was always drag strip. Saturday dirt track. Once a month...demolition derby. So....I know enough that rv repairmen cannot take me for a ride. Problem with jacks. They wanted to replace the main control for several hundred $ and the hydraulic fluid pump. I said no. Made them check it out further. Was a $35 switch. Solved the problem. Moral of the story....don’t mess with old ladies with grease under their manicured fingernails! 😜. Safe journeys.

We've all been there where you know "this is going to make a great story later" but at the time it sucks. Clearly RVs have lots of working parts and they are going to fail at some point. Regardless of the brand (we also have a Grand Design Reflection) but like you, I want to know how stuff works. Thank you for showing us the actual world you live every day. We was yelling at the TV when you're other side wasn't going out... THE VALVE IS CLOSED!!! A and I learned about that valve from you a year ago LOL!!! So happy that the valve fixed your hydraulic system!!! Grand Design has been so good with us as well with late night trouble shooting and sending us new parts!!! The check valve wasn't working in the previous Shurflo pump. I remember this episode and went back to do a bit of research. Now with KZread, there is so much great information, I don't get upset when things break mechanically. I think it's easier to fix an RV compared to all the systems in a regular house. The biggest problem is when something happens in your RV, everything his essential! So repairs need to happen NOW!

Every rig needs to come with a person that embraces the zen of troubleshooting. You have a 2nd career as an RV mechanic waiting for you, should you ever need it. Awesome video, thanks.

The bee sting brought back some terrible memories. A whole bunch of years ago, we had an Apache Popup trailer. Time for bed, and yes, you guessed it I got into bed, and within a couple of minutes, bam, I got stung in the A$$. Of course, the Hip song "Ahead By A Century" instantly came to mind. Safe travels

Great video guys. Sorry you had so much trouble but I guess that's life sometimes.. You two seem in a better place then the last video. Just be safe and wash those hands! Glad to see you picked up spares on the fuses. I'm a firm believer in back ups!

As a potential RV owner, I'm doing a lot of research and I'm finding your videos extremely helpful! I really like the Grand Designs and IF I get one of these I'll feel well ahead of the game as to maintenance and maintaining the rig! You guys are my hero's :). Keep up the great vids! SG

Our momentum’s name is Gipsy, and we have a 2020 Ford 450 as a tow vehicle (love the turning radius) and in our garage is a Harley Ultra Classic aka (The Mistress). love what you put out and will continue to watch you. Haaar! You guys are a hoot to watch. Our history was 6 ears snowbirding out of Canada with an International 4400 with a full eaton Fuller ten sp with a bike barn and Rampage loader pulling a 38 Mobile Suites with all of the hydraulic etc., nonsense you've experienced. Here's the tip of the month - you are going to find yourself the go-to, Mr, Fix-It wherever you travel. That used to happen to me by word of mouth alone but you're putting yourself out there on KZread LOL. Never mind, you'll enjoy most of the folks that come aknocking! I once repaired a big old Bounder's start battery isolation switch in the middle Yuma Az Walmart parking lot after the couple had a new one installed in Vegas on their way south - It was wired backwards. Once they shut their rig off - no start. They were 97 and 98 years old!!! They had been sitting in that lot for three days in 100F heat with no A/C. I hooked up my genny to give them some A/C while I was under the front of their Bounder and you'd have thought I had given them a winning lottery ticket. The nicest couple you could ever wish to meet with a 1911 colt 45 hanging on a peg right over the doorway. While my wife was in shopping I saw the old fellow walking around his rig with one of those three point tipped canes and just knew they were in trouble. With your skillset, you're going to be helping more people than you could possibly imagine.
