RV Living | Climbing Theater of Shadows on Jackson’s Thumb at City of Rocks

We got up early and made a day trip to the City of Rocks to climb Jackson's Thumb. 4 pitches and 500 feet later we made it to the top of our highest climb to date!

Your living one of my worst nightmares. I'm going to watch you climb but if either of you get hurt I letting you know that I'm going to be very upset with you. Good and safe climbing.

A question on climbing? Do you leave hardware at the top on every climb? I see the second person going up collects the anchor attachment points. But what do you do with the top one once you are down? Enjoy the videos. Thanks.

Great question! Most routes that we climb have permanent fixed anchors/chains/rappel rings at the top. So, the last climber up the route "cleans" it and gathers up all of our personal gear. They then thread the rope through the rappel anchor and rappel down. Then the rope is pulled through the chains and back to the ground. Sometimes there aren't permanent rappel anchors at the top of the route. In that case you do need to leave your own gear at the top.
