RV INVERTER BLUES... How to know if your Inverter is bad/Installation
We noticed about three weeks ago that while driving down the highway we lost all power to our outlets. It came back on and we thought it was some type of fluke. In the next 3 weeks we would end up spending g thousands of dollars and replacing our Inverter, Alternator and Battery Isolator. Join us on this journey to see what happened.

I'm a retired Navy mechanic in process of purchasing an older Monaco diesel pusher. Thank you for this story ! Makes me nervous but your perspective and advice to "roll with the punches" is actually refreshing. I have to remember; I will not be on a set schedule once I start full-timing and the unexpected is actually expected. Be safe out there !

I feel your pain fellow Texans. I've been shopping for a solid inverter for over a month now. When I look at customer reviews for inverters there seems to be about 5-10% of them that don't work, basically right out of the box! It's crazy, and certainly can be VERY frustrating, if you happen to be the guy (me) that gets 2 of those in a row. Also the part where the dude was begging from you while your RV is broken down was hilarious.

Well bless y'all's heart! Electrical problems can certainly be a pain...especially if you're like ME and not a scholar at it! I'm hoping to be going full time very soon in a brand new Promaster high top cargo van. I just need to find someone who can do the build out and install all the solar I want! Having retired (2015) from 38 years of coast to coast truck driving for a living I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing all the places I couldn't while looking through the windshield of my Peterbilt! The places out west that i HAVE seen just reminds me of the fact that God was such a master at making all of it for us to enjoy! Travel safe, stay happy, love God, and, I'll see y'all in the next video! (PS: Btw, I was so impressed with your music [when I found your channel the other day] that I downloaded many of the songs and burned them onto CD for my land lady and her mother! My land lady (Debbie) told me last night, "I just love his voice as much as I do George Strait"...there ya' go, Johnny!) ( 3/22/2019 Friday 11:55pmCST ~Jim in Houston, Texas )

Don’t know how I found you but man it’s on point. Only difference is I got my coach home before all hell broke loose. Lost the inverter, and our alternator. Then I missed the bulge in the side of the one 8D bus battery. I fire the coach up and the one bad battery exploded. Big Bang. So all new batteries and we have hope. We don’t full time but do go out a month or two at a time. God bless

When electrical issues happen, it seem to catapult into more. In 50+ yrs of RVing, we've only had one inverter go bad, and that was because bees built a nest in it while in storage. However, we've had more that our share of lighting and AC problems. Bulging is a sign of sealed batteries that were over charged. I'd go ahead and replace them as a precaution. Always err on the side of caution.

I hope I get this right but here goes. Your deep cycle batteries are charged by your inverter charger. While the batteries used to start your engine is charged by your alternator . You can use your deep cycle batteries to help start you engine most with have a switch to so this with. Chassis batteries are your deep Cycle otherwise known as house batteries. Sometimes in gas engines the switch is marked boost . I hope this helps because it can be a little hard to understand .

I completely understood it all, "the trials & errors"! "That 🐕 gone school of hard knocks", "I tell U"!! As U guys were talking I could even fill the 😈 whelming up inside of me, meaning I'm pretty sure there would have been a few harsh words come out of my mouth through that process!🙃 I'm sure glad the ending results turned out great! Also I'm wondering whether or not if that power converter U replaced is actually still good??, now that U discovered that whatchamacalla,🤔that thingamajig that allows the coach to charge while running that U replaced also,🤔 "sry I can't remember the name right now"🙃. Anyways U guys always have my prayers, now I need to add another prayer that U all (with the good Lord's grace) recoup those revenue s spent!😇 i.e. for any undesirable that we encounter, there's desirables that's waiting to happen also!!😇😇 HAPPY TRAILS!!

Electrical issues are always chasing us on our older coach. Lost our key switch on our trip across the US last year and had to hot wire it. I have a few questions and a tip for you, I take it that the inverter only runs part of the coach since the wires going to it were 10 Gauge for 30 amp and would energize 1/2 of you 50 amp panel? Do you think that the inverter failed first and that is what took out the isolator? Why not just leave the Generator running while driving? Now the tip, we could not figure out why our isolator had a jumper wire going from the Alt to the chassis batteries side. After thinking about it the house and chassis batteries still remained somewhat isolated but we can never loose power to the chassis batteries as long as the alt is working. So even if the isolator blows out the alt would still keep us going down the road and keep us from getting stranded due to that jumper. Keep in mind we could still lose the the alt charge for the house side but that won't leave you worrying about the coach shutting off while in travel. Also want to clarify that this setup only works if you ar running down the road or plugged in most of the time. If you boon dock then you could potentially drain the house batteries down and the the chassis. If we ever decide to boon dock then I would wire the isolator up the way that it should have been installed or add a 100% duty cycle solenoid in place of that jumper.
