I’m an electronics engineer and a lifetime DIYer. THIS is why I still DIY at 70 years old. Most of these people don’t know what they are doing. Those extra wires should have been capped, and the light could have been preserved. In all fairness, these guys wanna make a buck, so don’t have time to screw around. Still… Too bad the up/down votes are based on how nice the people are rather than technical accuracy.

The two wires you didn't use, and just tucked up into the cavity, should have been terminated with at least something that insulates, like electrical tape. Also, a nice touch would have been to close that opening off with some metallic refrigeration tape.

I installed this fan and it works great. It is slim and professional looking. It was around $100 but looks neater than some of the hack jobs. Be aware even though the Velcro is 2 pieces, if you separate them, they will not stick together after that. I contacted the mfg. They sent replacement Velcro pads at no cost. I did not try to separate them after that. This fan works as described.

They chose this particular RV refrigerator because the ON / OFF switch was built into the light. Made it easy for them. (Don't blame them for this) However it is a little misleading for the novice DIYer. The power was always available to this light, all the owner had to do was to replace the bulb to make it work. The light switch / housing mechanism is dead simple and will last almost forever. Odds are it was a bad bulb. If you chose to do this diy , make sure that you tap into constant ON power, not the switched light when the door is open or the fans will only run when the door is open. (Bad idea) I tapped into always on power (hot) and used a photoelectric switch that turns on when the light is out and the door is closed, the light still works as intended. Runs only when the door is closed, this is a fantastic mod for the fridge although I did not use the above fan unit. I used a super quiet 12V computer fan. Springer Pop is right in all his comments, this could have been done much cleaner with professional attention to details. Nice to See you Springer POP, I recognize you from wood web forums. Good Man.

I would imagine the air is being pulled out of the refrigerator cooling fins through the rear holes of the unit by the two fans and then blown downward. This makes more sense to me because if it's the other way around the cooling fin drain tray would totally block airflow downward. Am I right?

Beware, be sure, that the power wire is actually live all the time! Most frig lights work on a switch that is ON when door is OPEN and OFF when door is closed. I have a frig that is live to the SWITCH only, so when door is closed no power to the light wires!

The switch usually grounds the light when door open and breaks ground when closed to make the light go on and off. Hence why there is a fin clip to ground the fans to the cooling fins.

Isn’t the light supposed to turn off when you shut the door? That would mean the fans only work when the door is open.

Buy a fan kit with LED lights, especially if your refer light isn't working anyway. Then you get the benefit of the fan plus the light.

Search out the wire that has power when the door is closed. You didn't do that. Also the fan you are using is so thick it takes up too much space. There are products as thin as 1/2" that will do the job well and preserve your space.

Sure did a hack job. Never leave any cut wire end uncapped or at least taped of shrink wrap. Never cut off unused wire, you never know, you may want to reinstall the original light and replace the bulb, lol. I would have gotten a fan that fits with the original light, heck 2 compter fans, tucked unused wire after it was taped away!

So...if you overfill the frig and put a bunch of food, say carton of eggs, butter, or other containers, the fans still are partially blocked anyway. I have seen some frig's so packed that air movement would be nearly impossible. I say forget the fan....just don't over pack the frig and use a cooler for drinks and things at least until some of the food that is in the frig is used up(?)

Lightly drill our the light rivets if you need to. Pounding them out is asking for problems. Its not a block of steel, its a plastic refrigerator lining. Somewhat fragile so treat it that way or you'll be sorry.

Use 2 of the battery powered rv blue fridge fans with rechargeable D cells. Aim one of them down from the top on one side & the other up from the bottom on the other side. Works great! Also took the tube tray out, sealed it off! Won't drain but use a couple of sponges & have to squeezed them out once in a while! Drain tube is gone (impossible to fix without taking our the fridge) & it works fine this way! LOL

@Bob Tate Enforcing more stringent quality in design and manufacturing will cause pricing to go up. This will cause the RV mega manufacturers to abandon lines they have and consolidate so they can have a more structured and repetitive manufacturing process. That comes at a price. I agree that QC and Design suffer terribly in the RV industry, and something needs to change, but don't expect it to come with "price competition" and lowering of prices. It will not. This is what happened to the auto industry and why cars and trucks are so much more expensive...it is not just the technology but the cost of design and manufacturing, safety standards implementation and such. As much as everyone bitches, vehicles today are way more safer and reliable than the "glory days" we all like to be nostalgic about (I am a car guy...I get it!). This will all need to happen with RV's but this will also cause prices to go up...but the impact will be a better product.
