RV America: Zion National Park (Keep Your Daydream) Ep. 3

After visiting the beautiful Slot Canyons in Utah, we traveled to Zion National Park. We were amazed with size and scale of the park. It reminded us of Yosemite Valley, but in sand instead of granite.
We hiked the Narrows, Overlook and Emerald Pools upper and lower. This is a place we plan to visit again to explore more and hike Angels Landing.

    I don't know if you read these comments any longer, but I wanted you to know the immense joy your videos bring me. I've watched a few here and there, and now have decided to watch them through from the beginning. I hope to one day be able to travel the country the way you guys get to, but until then I will enjoy seeing it through your lens.

    Well, this was just spectacular. “A lot of options” pretty much describes it. The voice-over by Trish was a very nice addition, with a lot of useful information. Caleb’s outsized personality cannot be contained within this one channel. The boy needs a bigger stage. Thanks for taking us along.

    I've started all over, from the emptying of the house onward. Constantly smiling! Then laughed out loud: "It's the riverside walk. I think that means you walk along the river." But, you know, even in this very beginning you all had that right stuff to grow KYD into what it is today!

    Wow, that is sooo awesome! I almost feel like I was there, but not quite. I've seen it before in other videos but your video allowed me to see and even feel some of the grandeur and wonder of the place. It's definitely on my bucket list now. It's funny I'm not as interested in the Grand Canyon. I saw it once when I was a kid. But this place is magnificent. Great video. Your daughter does a wonderful job narrating. She's good.

    Totally fabulous video!! I have been lucky enough to visit Zion twice now, and I can't wait to go back with Steve and our cameras! It's a spectacular place, and you showed some stunning scenery. If you go back, I recommend partaking in the 1/2 day horseback ride through the park. May be a bit too pricey with a family but WHAT FUN THAT WAS! :) I can't wait to see what you guys have to say about Bryce--it is the most incredible terrain I have ever encountered, truly like being on another planet. Another "if you come back" stop is Arches...I'm sorry you couldn't fit it into your trip, it's a jaw-dropping spectacle that is not to be missed if at all possible! Thanks guys, for the fun video, I loved it! And your kids, omg what a bunch of hammy mchammertons! :D

    I LOVED this episode! I grew up in St. George & going to Zions all the time! :) When I was little they still had the "parking spaces" I think. Or maybe they were just nooks in there. Crazy kids from my high school would run into the tunnels & duck in the nooks just in time before a car would go by lol. Anyway thanks for going to Utah. I miss it so much. I'm from UT but lived in AZ for like 18 years until like 5 years ago- we live in TX now! Love your channel, someone just recommended it to me & I'm binging while I do taxes! We want to do this someday, actually we put money down on a Tesla truck & after getting it we are planning on getting a camper & taking off w/ me, hubs & the 3 kids! Keep Your Daydream how much was the Zion tram ticket and do you have to purchase them in advance? Your video has enlightened me because a few friends said I should plan for just a quick drive Thru zion as they thought it wouldn't be a place for me as an amputee (leg). But I see your walks and I know I could do these easily! Your video saved me big time because know I know to pack dry socks and extra shoes so we can enjoy the 50 degree water ---- I had no clue this was back there!!! Alllll the thanks in the world!!!!

    You guys are too funny, :) When we visited Zion last year we couldn't hike the narrows because of flash flooding, a real bummer. The mistake we made was not realizing that the tunnel closed to oversized vehicles at 6pm, we stayed till 7! Our Dodge 1ton duly was considered oversized and our travel trailer was just on the other side of the tunnel. This resulted in a 2 1/2 hour drive around the park, another bummer. But we totally loved Zion. How do you like your travel trailer? My husband and I are wanting to buy one similar to the layout of what you have, a Forest River Vibe 272bhs.

  • @KeepYourDaydream

    @KeepYourDaydream

    7 жыл бұрын

    Oh wow! What a bummer. We are so lucky we called to ask for directions and she said, "are you coming through the tunnel". Tunnel??? Do you still have the 1ton duly? I'm fairly disappointed in the quality of our trailer. I know they are all made cheep, but if I were to buy again, I'd get a 5th wheel so I can walk around the bed. Making the bed is difficult 2 person job. And I would make sure to have slide-toppers to avoid any leaks on the slides and a fiberglass front wind breaker. All that will be more money, but those features will also have other upgrades to go with it. I'd also buy used so the previous owner fixed all the low hanging fruit :) and get their improvements. We made the right call on not getting the outdoor kitchen. We much prefer to have a second door and access to the bathroom from 2 sides. If you must get a travel trailer, 31 feet opens up a whole new level of bunk house with beds on each side making another room. If you don't have the budget, it doesn't matter. Doing what you can NOW and better than perfect LATER! :)

  • @calliecutiepie

    @calliecutiepie

    Yes, I still have my duly but I use it to pull a 4 horse slant goose neck. I'd love a 5th wheel but haven't found a hitch that can safely switch back and forth. I've heard conflicting stories. The FR Vibe 272bhs is 34' with double bed sized bunks and has a walk around queen bed. It also has an outdoor kitchen and the second door is on the opposite side of the trailer going into the bathroom! I have to keep duly because of the horses but I would like a full-sized SUV to pull the travel trailer. My husband always buy used vehicles but I really want to purchase the TT new. But that will have to wait for now, hopefully we get setup before we head to Yellowstone in the next year or so. Happy and safe Travels

    Angela Grant look at the Andersen Ultimate hitch. I also have a gooseneck ball in the back of my truck for my horse trailer. Andersen Ultimate hitches only weigh 70lbs (for the steel) and 40lbs (for the aluminum) and take 5 minutes to install or remove from the bed of the truck. The design of the hitch means you're pulling the camper from the same angle and level as a standard fifth-wheel hitch so you don't put the normal undue stress on the frame as other GN (non-recommended) converters do.

    Bryce is amazing. Like ah-mazing... but there is no question that Zion is the right choice. Here's why. The grandness and scale of Zion is magical. There are endless hikes and driving through the tunnels will be memorable. The camping is easy if your stay in the park or you can stay at Zion River Ranch just outside the park like we did. I loved Bryce for the Mt. Biking and hiking. It's amazing... like the Grand Canyon, but it may not blow you away like I know Zion will :)

    Great videos guys...had a question about the grades around/between Bryce and Zion? We are planning a three week from MD out to the big parks in SW Utah. • @KeepYourDaydream

    You're going to love it. What kind of rig? I don't recall the mountains in the west to be a problem. Unlike the east, the roads are big and mostly two lanes so you can just go slow and steady in the right lane. I recall our steepest grade was going out the East gate of Yellowstone headed toward Buffalo was the steepest longest grade. I put kept the truck in 3rd gear about 45mpg and 3,000 rpms and held it steady. I could have easily gone 60, but like to keep the rpm's under 4,000. When climbing, I change my screen to transmission temp and keep a close eye when it gets above 210. In regards to Zion, you saw in the video that you have to go around the mountain if you're an RV over a certain length. You can't go through the tunnels. Those were the steep areas. Getting from Zion to Bryce had some grades, but they were only a few miles at a time and not that bad. Again, 2 lanes so you can go slow. And even if you hold up traffic...so be it!

    Thanks...Yukon XL with a 6.2 pulling a 30' trailer. Equivalent to a half ton truck. Camper is light for its size, Yukon does great most of the time, just doesn't love big hills. I think we've mapped out a route that will work, based on your slot canyons video. From Bryce, we would go 389 clockwise around Zion (like you did) entering Springdale on the SW side. goo.gl/maps/P2G9efhYR2B2

    I'm familiar. We've had the truck. Isn't it a 6.0? Should do fine. I recall my Denali pulling a big sluggish in the hills. I think the gear ratio is different for Yukon XL's as they are for trucks. I'll check out your map. Out of ALL the travel we did in the states, Zion is on our short list to return. Make time for the Narrows. We wish we would have rented the suits to walk up the canyon. We really wanted to do Angels Landing, but Trish was worried about the boys and the narrow path and heights. Zion River Ranch was the way to go - right outside the park and I recall not that expensive. Bryce was amazing. Wish we would have done some hiking there too. Enjoy. Post pics on IG with the @KeepYourDaydream or on fbook.

    Thanks - Yukon XL with a 6.2L pulling a 30' trailer - ultralight for its size, but can be challenging for us on hills. We are Maryland flatlanders planning a 3 wk trip out west and back. I think I saw the solution to my avoiding-hills question on your Slot Canyon video - from Bryce, we'll avoid tunnel route to Zion (we're over 50'), head clockwise around the south side of Zion on 389, and enter Springdale from the SW. We're trying several routes to see the "grand circle" in about 10 days...but our route looks more like "grand spaghetti"...LOTS of ground to cover in the southwest.

    Killer looking route. When you're in Page, AZ there are two tour companies to see Annalope Slot Canyons (one is called Ken's I think). They get full fast so you'll likely need reservations. We didn't want to go with 100 people, so we opted to find our own slot canyons on the way Zion... but going with the Indian tour companies is worth the pictures! Unreal pics. Far better than you could get where we went, although it was nice to be nearly alone. The Damn tour is cool too if you haven't done it. I did it as a kid. Now that they have the bridge that spans the Caynon it's even more impressive.

    I pull it with a '13 Ford F-150 with the large 6.2L engine. Fuel econ is only 9mpg. I've heard good things about the Aluminum Eco Boost. Only 4 cylinders, but exceptional towing power (so I've heard). I don't know the specs of my truck, but I know I'm under my towing capacity. I'm 15,750 total and the trailer fully loaded is 9,200. If I were to do it again I would buy a Ford 350, but we wanted to do this trip with what we had... so we did :)
