Ruwi High Street 1991, Muscat, Oman

One of my earliest attempts to capture real life in the streets. Here is Oman's then busiest street. In those days a video camera was rare and people assumed you were from a TV company. Full of Indians and other Asian expats. Money changers, small shops and stores selling textiles, jewellery, watches, the latest electrical items from 1991.

wow - I was here in 87 so this is only a few years after. my dad worked for the royal yacht squadron and Oman wasn't really open to tourists. I remember going up ruwi high street and every man staring at my sister as she was blonde. I remember a tape shop that did pirate tapes for like 50p. good times :) - and right at 7.19, there's the tape shop - fantastic video - thanks

Mr.Munshi, What a coincidence! It's me my wife, daughter and son walking across at 4.44. Thanks a million for your video. Those kids are married now and have kids now. How fast time has flown! And what a place to live! Thanks be to God for such opportunities and memories!

OMG the tape shop! I used to love going shopping for Thomsun Originals in Ruwi. They had so much better selection than Sabco Center. I have so many of those exact tapes you filmed there... Satriani, Maiden, Alice Cooper, etc... still have them and they still work!

I am really not able to recognise that this is Ruwi! BTW my father used to work in Nizwa at that time. I am living here from 12 and half years & it has changed so much... Just so much fun to watch this and truly it's a very beautiful country. But after the pandemic it has changed very much... Thanks for sharing the old beautiful memories.......
