Decades after a crushing defeat, humanity is a shadow of its former self. Earth is a scavenged wasteland, its people reduced to salvagers. Alex, a hardened captain eking out a living among the wreckage, stumbles upon technology that could change the tides. Outnumbered and outgunned, he devises a daring plan for his battered ship, the Junkyard Dog: lure the technologically superior alien flagship into a deadly dance within an asteroid field, using the very refuse of humanity as his weapon.

Nice little yarn and so eloquently presented. Not a story destroying robo voice within the range of sight nor sound, thank the Gods. Much appreciated.

It sounds like they didn't even use the unknown alien tech they found.

The tech they found was just a targeting computer, but that alone is a very key part of any weapons system

That's funny "successfully navigate the astroid field". I believe the average distance between each object is 600,000 miles. You could successfully navigate Jupiter through it without ever seeing anything.

It's because of Jupiter that our asteroid belt is so scant. Without it, we would have more of them.

Yeah, but where is the fun in that? I've seen the original Star Wars, more fun dodging those things than trying to spot them on RADAR

yes and no. The thing is, the asteroids are not all moving at the same speed, therefore you must be aware of all the trajectories of asteroids as well as your position to the enemy.

You forget, this asteroid field is a theoretical future where a colossal battle occurred and the wrecks of ships also lay. What I REALLY don't understand is why the aliens didn't frag Earth at the beginning of the 'rebellion' . . it's not like they had a colony on it. And why was the aliens 'Mothership' being used for a supply run??

I've watched a lot of sci-fi films how does that influence the way I perceive the belt? I really don't know what they are actually like, aren't they just floating rocks that bump and grind each other?

Any asteroid field that isn't brand new has all of the constituent matter basically at rest with respect itself (though the field itself my be orbiting something). So, they wouldn't be knocking into each other.

Our asteroid belt is old. The rings around saturn are young and probably won't last long. In other star systems you could get much different densities.

I thought it would have helped if the battle took place at one of the Lagrange points made by Jupiter’s gravity making it dense enough to cause problems. If most of the asteroids there were like Dimophos then there could be dust clouds all over from the battle making good cover.

Kind of a silly story. Hitting them once, even the flagship, would likely elicit a violent response...a response so extreme that it puts humanity further on a knifes edge. This would have required a coordinated attack on multiple targats...something to cripple the bulk of the fleet. The bigger question is WHY THEY WERE THERE AT ALL. CLEARLY THEY COULD HAVE GLASSED EARTH. WHY DEVOTE RESOURCES TO SOMETHING THEY SEEM TO VIEW AS AN ANNOYANCE AT THIS POINT.

The reading, needs more inflections, and different tones for each character in a dialog exchange, with more use of the authors punctuation to guide the speed and the pauses. Already much better then the chatbot voices, but room to improve.
