Great video man ,, another use you can do with Red Kote is when you buy a new air compressor put it in the bottom of the air tank to keep the bottom section from rusting out ,, it works great !!!

Thank you for the demonstration. I have several kerosene lamps that I am restoring and I now know how I am going to repair the tank on one of them thanks to your video. That is interesting stuff!

I put in a bottle of Rust remover and gravel and strap it to a cement mixer. A couple of hours later... 👍

Cement mixer is a good idea. I've seen them ratchet strapped to a truck tire jacked off the ground and the truck in Drive, but that seemed like more trouble then I wanted to deal with.

    1. Evaporust works best at elevated temps...90-100 degrees makes it work in a couple of hours instead of 24. Must Rinse it very well. 2. Using sharp small clean gravel is the way to get all your rust out if you use phosphoric acid instead of evaporust. I would use it with lots of water to remove the black junk after you use evaporust. 3. Use wood dowels to plug your holes. 4. 2 thin coats better than one thick one. 5. Hang on line in sun to cure. or use an electric radiator heater for step 1 and for drying.

Use Rust 911, wayyyyyyy cheaper than Evaporust and wayyyy more effective. I just soaked my car fuel tank in it, no scrubbing, came out completely clean.

That's good to know. I have a rust bucket project coming up and will grab some Rust 911 to try out.

Thanks for the tutorial, I've got a tank from an old station wagon that I'm trying to rescue that I'm sure is going to be nasty!

I poured a bunch of bolt nuts in to my tank and cleaned it out that way.

Good tip, thats usually the easiest way to do it if you dont have a few gallons of evaporust in the corner.

My tank has a large lip under the gas cap and was a challenge to get all of the nuts out. I don't think this process is necessary. Vinegar will remove the rust.

Tell me you gave the outside a good krylon shine also before reinstalling?

I sanded it down and repainted it I.H. Red after finishing the inside. It's red and shiny like it was 60 years ago.

Interesting product, have you used it in the past?

Yep, it works as long as the tank is clean from grease and oil, and all the flaky rust is removed. I have another tank I did maybe 3-4 years ago that's still working well with no issues. The MFG claims it will seal pin holes and small leaks also, but I haven't done a tank that bad yet.

My new none rusted tank started rusting after I used purple power and water.. I didn’t use acetone afterwards.. Is that the issue?

Purple power is a degreaser, so you just removed the protective oil film and didn't replace it, that's why it rusted. Acetone does the same thing if I had just let it sit. Gotta protect the bare metal somehow, usually the same day or the rust starts.

Yep a few options to remove all the rust. If you have a way to rotate the tank like a rock tumbler for a couple hours, a handful of nuts and bolts will clean it out pretty well too. Red Kote can be used over rust and bonds/encapsulates it so a little surface rust left over isn't too big a deal.
