Can I ask a question please? I see this on resto video after resto video, and i can't understand it. Everyone sprays penetrating lubricant on the bolts/nuts they need to remove... so their spanners and sockets have LESS grip, and when the nut comes off the thread is 100% untouched by the oil. Where they needed slippage, there's none, and where they most certainly don't want it, that's where the oil is. Why??? Just loosen the bolt/nut. If there is too much rust, use heat. Heat just the nut; the rust actually insulates the bolt. Nut swells, it comes off. Penetrating oil? Visibly useless.

My grandfather always lightly 'tapped' the bolt head, if exposed & then the nut with a machinist hammer. 99% they would break free, maybe have to work it back and forth. Project was dry until the parts washer. I did one of these 20 years ago my only problem was the carbon buildup inside the blower & blower blades. Like stone.

The top of the metal essentially rust welds to the bottom of the bolt. That is what’s being fixed, not the threads of the bolt being stuck.

WD-40, also known as Bullshit 40, is not a lubricant nor is it a penetration fluid. Get yourself some Mannol 9932 rust dissolver. This stuff gets the job done.

I'm sorry but this is going to be the video where I say this. I hate when people are restoring something and use filler to hide the porous nature of cast iron. That is how it is supposed to look, pitted. You're not restoring the item by hiding it's true form.
